Rush played a montage of all the newswhores giving Trump credit for his D-Day speech because, they all agreed, that it “wasn’t all about himself.”

Then he played an edited mix of Zero giving his D-Day speech a few years ago. It was a bit more self-referential. Like 273 times more self-referential. The press naturally slobbered over it.

JimSV " I tend to think Russia would've whooped them."

The US was equipping Russia via Lend-Lease and then later pulled Germany in several directions in N Africa. The US was also supplying Britain even before entering the war, without which support the Battle of Britain would have been a short affair. Relieved of all those diversions, the Germans v Russia would have gone differently. And then the German bomb...

So...no.

Marlene--after all the tears shed today over what we've conspicuously remembered, it is a kind of relief to tell you that I never had any real problem putting all my four children's stuffed animals in the washer, on normal, warm. Spray any particular stains first. Then set them out to dry--in the sun would be especially nice (this is how they treated Raggedy Ann at the beginning of her first adventure--bonus children's lit note, though in her case she'd been through the wringer, literally).

Pin, I've been forgetting to say I haven't read Colette. Actually, there's lots I haven't read. My only saving grace is that there's lots I have.

Ok, did my gutters yesterday, and the house is big and has up to 2 and a half stories, and we had baby maple trees yearning for life in every gutter, but I also found something completely new--piles of animal scat two stories up, with (excuse these gory details) the size midway between corgi and collie production. Raccoon? Possum? Foxes can climb trees but only about six-seven feet when pursuing prey. All the poop was way too large for squirrels. Any advice? No small human squatters--there's no way on the roof except the way I go, through the upstairs bathroom window (locked generally). I have a voicemail into the county extension people also.

Catsmeat, sounds like raccoon scat. They like roofs. Check your attic to make sure they haven’t found a way in. Like nice, they have flex rib cages and can fit small cracks (or vents on a roof). Nasty disease carrying critters.

From a Politico article on Flynn:

In a text message to POLITICO, Giuliani said he was not Flynn’s new lawyer. Dershowitz replied that he’s not representing Flynn. DiGenova in an email wrote, “We are not at liberty to discuss.”

The non-response is, of course, interesting, and fits with the rumor Miss Marple reported. If Flynn's plea deal is generous, as the article says, withdrawing from it is a risky gamble, considering the possibility of unrelated charges.

MJW

Instead of "is a risky strategy," I meant "would be a risky strategy."

OMG. There's so MUCH on YouTube

henry

Lyle, at one point while still in Normandy, my grandfather’s aide found a chateau with caves filled with wine. Each bottle was marked with an “x” by the Germans. Fortified wine intended for the German officers. My grandfather relocated his HQ to that chateau, told the line guys where to find him (as in Bradley, Patton, etc), but may have missed telling Bedell Smith. Took Smith a week to find him and screw up the supply chain.

I was wondering if you have some of that “x” wine that you sample occasionally. ;)

Jim,SunnyvaleCA,USA

OL, 5:27. Sure its a hypothetical not worth jawing over.
Let me say only: I am VERY comfortable with my position.

I don’t have any ‘x’ wine, henry...yet. Well, maybe a few, just not fortified. It’s more like I won’t pull a bottle for just anyone if they don’t have any idea what they’re drinking. cf. my sibs and in-laws...

If ever I get to meet more JOMbreros in person, I’d happily pull some good stuff.

henry

LOL Lyle! Tbird or a craft brew for me.

But speaking of Normandy, I’d be curious what grapes were being grown in a chateau there. I don’t believe that would be Bordeaux. I’ll have to consult one of my wine books. Jack would probably know.

Lyle,

If any they are what are called "peasant or farmer" grapes. Normandy is Calvados and Cider country. Apple orchards abound. Many Calvados distillers are open for tasting and sales.

I think they are trying to bring back their viticulture but I don't remember seeing any vineyards of note last time there in 2009.

henry

Lyle, I got the impression the German staff shipped good stuff in. There may have been local wine as well. It’s been over 40 years since I last heard that story... my grandfather told it over a martini and cigar, sitting in his recliner / rocker with his flags behind him (US & command) and decorations in a display case / side table. It was one of his favorite stories, and he always had s twinkle in his describing Smith’s conniption when he finally found the supply HQ for the European theater. Followed by hearty laughter.

I have a book Wine & War by Don & Petie Kladstrup that I’ve only skimmed. Might have to delve into it this weekend.

Less improbable than the Mueller report:

lurkersusie

In a key finding of the Mueller report, Ukrainian businessman Konstantin Kilimnik, who worked for Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, is tied to Russian intelligence.

But hundreds of pages of government documents — which Mueller possessed since 2018 — describe Kilimnik as a “sensitive” intelligence source for the U.S. State Department who informed on Ukrainian and Russian matters.

Why special counsel Robert Mueller’s team omitted that part of the Kilimnik narrative from their report and related court filings is not known. But the revelation of it comes as the accuracy of Mueller’s Russia conclusions face increased scrutiny.
