The Squawk Box consensus of the disappointing jobs report is that it shows a weaker economy but not a weak one. That said, I share their belief that Team Trump will want to re-think their trade wars in order to keep the economy perking until the fall of 2020.
Do let me add, last Christmas Trump had a valid point that the Fed was on the wrong path; they have since become more accommodating, as they indicated at the end of January.

Sure, maybe but that article is from 3017.
Has it held up?
Note this skepticism at the time:
Retired anthropologist and author Dr Peter Andrews, formerly at the Natural History Museum in London, said: "It is possible that the human lineage originated in Europe, but very substantial fossil evidence places the origin in Africa, including several partial skeletons and skulls.
"I would be hesitant about using a single character from an isolated fossil to set against the evidence from Africa."

Idlib was all over the news last year when attacks looked imminent. So the attacks finally get started and we don't hear much about them at all in the news.
It's no longer as important as it was before? Or because the US isn't involved in it and they can't use Trump as a foil.
I'm still interested. It's still going to be a bloodbath.

Emily Shugerman, Gender Reporter, at the Daily Beast is reporting on the NYTimes story that the Mexican agreements were from months ago. No new reporting just re-hashing the Times.
What the hell is a gender reporter? And why is she(?) reporting on politics?
CNN is repeating the same story with no additional reporting.
Sputnik International also reported the story based on the NYTimes.
What a cast of characters. It's like, "round up the usual suspects," for an attack on Trump. The Times, CNN, Daily Beast and Sputnik International? Are you kidding me? The Democrats will cite these sources to counter-attack. Losers.

Clarice,
Excellent as always. Two things.
From my reading of Jacobsen at Legal Insurrection, he was not sure that the Gibson's would prevail. He disliked the Oberlin defense immensely. He wanted the Gibson's to win, but was unsure of the outcome. I have no doubt that he loved the verdict.
The other thing is Mexico. Trump scored a win, but the media and the Democrats (I repeat myself) are not going to let it be a win. They are going to claim like the NYTimes, that Trump created a crisis that had already been resolved.
I don't buy that.
Posted by: jim nj | June 09, 2019 at 05:49 AM
jim-my reading of jacobson's concerns had to do with what the jury instructions would read like. rse and anonamom,
Agreed, on both issues.
I'm no internet sleuther, but it's not hard to construct a better timeline on the Mexico talks.
I am sure we have been talking to the Mexicans for some time and we have reached some interim agreements. I don't know if they were fully implemented though.
I think the threat of a tariff imposition was cover for AMLO and his government.
We didn't willingly agree to this. We were forced to. Note that AMLO publicly announced that he was pleased that the agreement was reached. He didn't bitch about it. He thanked Trump for the resolution of the issue.
Why would he do this? Because it's in his best interests and that of his nation.
He knows there is a huge problem and he needs our help. We gave it to him. We gave him a reason to cooperate to save real businesses but not the cartels.

In other words, AMLO is not a traitor to Mexico, he is a savior. He didn't want to do this, but he had to, in order to save "real" Mexican jobs.
So the people will support him as he takes action. It's in their best interests. Not so much the cartels, but it sets up a dichotomy.
Trump mentioned something to the effect that we have an agreement, but Mexico may need to do more.
What if Mexico itself doesn't meed to do more? What if Mexico just needs to agree to our boots on the ground in a clandestine fashion? I'm sure we have made the offer of assistance.

Of course, it makes sense. What do journalists, citizens, and politicians think the embassy in Mexico does all day? Plus the ones in the Central American countries. Just visa's and other mundane paperwork?
That said, only POTUS or Pompeo has the stature to sit down and finalize agreements and set up further negotiations.

Great Pieces, Clarice!
One thing I’d quibble with:
Perhaps, for those of us who were young once, a foolish action by college students caught up in the social welfare nonsense is understandable, but more is expected of the presumed adults running such places
More SHOULD be expected, butdating back to the surrenders to campus radicals starting in the 1960’s, I don’t think anything better could be expected of the people running the schools. And they’re clearly not adults by any definition anyone here would recognize.

MM @ 7:52
They DID foresee it, regardless of what they say now. The situation that exists today is completely intentional. Everything about it benefits progressive Democrat politicians and their alllies in the bureaucracy (both government and academic bureaucracy).
All that “free” money has funded hundreds of thousands (millions?) of jobs for prog bureaucrats with no actual useful skills, but plenty of malice towards white people, men, Christians, and Western civilization in general.
It’s allowed them to expand their indoctrination to far more young people than was possible in the past.
It’s created millions of heavily indebted young adults who are less independent and more dependent on government than their parent support or grandparents, thus becoming more reliable Democrat voters.
It’s created an argument for a massive wealth transfer/theft from productive, self-sufficient (far more likely to be conservative) citizens to those young Democrat voters.
The student loan system was purposely designed to do exactly what it’s done.

Another false report in the Failing @nytimes. We have been trying to get some of these Border Actions for a long time, as have other administrations, but were not able to get them, or get them in full, until our signed agreement with Mexico. Additionally, and for many years,....
.....Mexico was not being cooperative on the Border in things we had, or didn’t have, and now I have full confidence, especially after speaking to their President yesterday, that they will be very cooperative and want to get the job properly done. Importantly, some things.....
.....not mentioned in yesterday press release, one in particular, were agreed upon. That will be announced at the appropriate time. There is now going to be great cooperation between Mexico & the USA,
something that didn’t exist for decades. However, if for some unknown reason...
....there is not, we can always go back to our previous, very profitable, position of Tariffs - But I don’t believe that will be necessary. The Failing @nytimes, & ratings challenged @CNN, will do anything possible to see our Country fail! They are truly The Enemy of the People!

House Judiciary Committee ranking member Doug Collins wrote in a letter to the chairman:
The fact you are attempting to make the case for starting an impeachment inquiry has no bearing on the applicability of the Rules. Outside of such an inquiry, Members are prohibited from accusing the President of a crime or alluding to potential impeachable offenses. Jefferson’s Manual further states:
Although wide latitude is permitted in debate on a proposition to impeach the President, Members must abstain from language personally offensive; and Members must abstain from comparisons to the personal conduct of sitting Members of the House or Senate. Furthermore, when impeachment is not the pending business on the floor, Members may not refer to evidence of alleged impeachable offenses by the President contained in a communication from an independent counsel pending before a House committee, although they may refer to the communication, itself, within the confines of proper decorum in debate, and may not otherwise suggest that the President has done something worthy of censure or impeachment.

Twitter should let the banned Conservative Voices back onto their platform, without restriction. It’s called Freedom of Speech, remember. You are making a Giant Mistake!

Well, I wonder what THAT is all about.
Top 2 guesses on Twitter were a joint military operation with Mexico to eradicate the cartels, and Mexico offering to pay for the wall!

Today in the WaPo: An above the fold story about a man who killed a yoga instructor which continues on for 2 FULL pages linking hatred of women to white supremacists. In a smaller article on p. 2 a story about a black serial killer who admits to killing at least 60 women.

MM-that baby was found in Forsyth County near the city of cumming. It is north of the perimeter by about thirty miles and was infamous for not having a single black resident back in the 80s. You might remember that oprah iirc did a town hall or something and there was a march to draw attention to the lack of 'diversity'.
Well, my mom is ready to put a deposit down on memorycare and I spent yesterday dealing with logistics like a bed. Bro has been on vacay out in CA and asked her yesterday by phone if we "were pressuring her." She apparently replied no that it was time. He then asked if he could just spend nights there.
These situations are far more stressful when no one but me tried to get a handle on the characteristics of the disease and the inevitable prognosis.
I told her yesterday that my brother and sister cannot bear to see her cry, but that it bothers me less because I know we have far graver concerns in this situation than her being sad. He needs to be looked after at this point by professionals for whom his decline is not personal.
He passed his assessment on friday and when the nurse asked him if he needed a cane or walker he lifted up both of his feet and then put them down and said "Nope."

If President Obama made the deals that I have made, both at the Border and for the Economy, the Corrupt Media would be hailing them as Incredible, & a National Holiday would be immediately declared. With me, despite our record setting Economy and all that I have done, no credit!

Video clip at link. Although this was posted on June 5, I am posting it here today so that you can imagine how heads on CNN exploded when this guy said this on air.

rse--you might want to read Roz Chait's book "Can't we talk about something more pleasant" in which she related the decline and death of her parents. It's both sad and funny. My d-i-l sent it to me as my mother began declining. I know exactly what you are going thru. My mother is 100 and with her birthday in April her decline accelerated. Nevertheless, something rings a bell whenever there's an assessment--suddenly she speaks more, eats and swallows better and claims to handle all her affairs. Heh
