Well, hearing the sad news about our pal, Herb, was the final cap on a perfectly dreadful day. 6/24/2019 just sucked like a fistful of Friday the 13ths. Started out with a wake up call from our colleague/customer in Pueblo where my spidey sense decided to put off our flight down there for a day. Turns out that was the best thing that happened all day. Next, the power went out for no obvious reason. After giving it about 40 min. before firing up the genny, just because it is a pain to get everything up and running, I discovered the network feed is also down. Overall, blew an hour or more stacking the BBs to the point we could get back to final tweaking or the customer widget and one of our own that I’m taking today. Every step of that process produces small flashbang grenades of disaster including the custom battery pack dying on the customer machine. That costs an hour and a half, because the new version is completely different in size and shape. About this time, my sidekick gets a panic call from his older daughter, who just graduated from Gonzaga (and hasn’t found a job yet), to tell papa the she found the front door to their house wide open and the indoor only cat gone. Fortunately I can wrap up our stuff on my own while he heads off to help hunt for the cat. Finally, as we start shutting down for the evening, Mrs MT looks out her kitchen window at the freshly loaded bird feeder and sees a coon trying to figure out how to dismantle it.

The only consolation prize was the wayward cat returned to my sidekick’s house about 6 hrs later.

RIP, Herb. You picked a perfectly awful day to return to your maker.
