So I've been thinking about Jeff Sessions since MissM posted her thoughts yesterday. I've been waffling between deep state or dupe for some time. Lately I've been thinking he was duped by a Sally Yates DOJ but there's been one thing bothering me, a quote by a former Trump campaign worker in an article he wrote here. Here's the quote, "Now having one of the most successful boutique law firms in the country, Cooper put aside his open disdain for Donald Trump to help his old friend prep for the confirmation process."

So I tried to find confirmation that Cooper did indeed have an open disdain for Donald Trump, which might indicate that Sessions was influenced by his friends feelings toward Donald Trump, but gave up, until yesterday. It seems I was looking in all the wrong places. Forgive me for posting this article from TPM, scroll on by if you're not interested. Does it prove Sessions was a deep state plant...no but it does give us an idea about the man who sat down with Sessions and helped him pick his staff.

While Sessions helped lead a crusade with Cruz to defeat the 2013 bipartisan immigration bill, he also found himself drawn to the New York real estate mogul-turned-reality TV star. By Cooper’s account, Sessions and then-candidate Trump were more “simpatico” on trade, and the presence of a former Sessions aide, Stephen Miller, on Trump’s campaign brought the Alabama senator even closer into the fold.

Sessions’ February 2016 endorsement of Trump – his first from a sitting senator — was a major achievement for Trump’s campaign.

“I didn’t realize that it was a losing cause from the beginning,” Cooper said, referring to his efforts to get Sessions to endorse Cruz instead.

What was a losing cause for Cooper was a winning bet for Sessions, whose early support of Trump secured him an attorney general appointment — a previously unthinkable ascent for the 71-year-old hard-right conservative, 30 years after the Senate rejected his nomination to be a federal judge.

Despite an ugly intra-party fight between their respective candidates, Cooper and Sessions maintained “friendly adversarial contact” during the GOP primary, though Cooper admitted that “it wasn’t easy.”

“Trump of course was extraordinarily hostile, scornful, ridiculing Ted in every possible way — ‘Lyin’ Ted’ — so those things bruise, but it didn’t affect the relationship,” Cooper said, though he and Sessions did fall out of contact during the general election.

After Sessions was nominated for attorney general, however, he sought his old friend’s assistance to prepare for what was shaping up to be a grueling confirmation process.

Chuck Cooper is a red-blooded conservative from Alabama who originally supported Ted Cruz. How many JOMers originally supported Cruz? I bet more JOMers initially supported Cruz than Trump. Correct me if I am wrong but Cruz has allied with Trump on pretty much everything in the MAGA agenda hasn't he? Trump isn't trying to exclude anyone from the census; he just proposes asking whether a respondent is a citizen or not. That way you know both how many persons you have (which determines how many representatives you get, among other things) and how many citizens you have (which determines how many eligible voters you have).

I don't understand that, because if the question is simply "Are you a citizen?" then "No" does not indicate whether you are here legally or illegally.
