From Solomon's article.

OK, so why should you care if a Russian denied Trump campaign collusion with Russia during the election?

First, Deripaska wasn’t just any Russian. He was closely aligned with Putin and had been helpful to the FBI as far back as 2009. So he had earned some trust with the agents.

Most importantly, Deripaska’s interview with the FBI reportedly was never provided by Team Mueller to Manafort’s lawyers, even though it was potential proof of innocence, according to Manafort defense lawyer Kevin Downing. Manafort, initially investigated for collusion, was convicted on tax and lobbying violations unrelated to the Russia case.

That omission opens a possible door for appeal for what is known as a Brady violation, for hiding exculpatory information from a defendant.

Scumbag!

Am a bit concerned about this Rooshian submarine accident. Pence called back; Russian Cabinet meeting; EU Defense Committee all meeting. WTF?

A "source" said we'll know in 2 weeks. What does that mean?

Narciso79

That line from peel in red October comes to mind, this is second such accident since the kursk.

clarice

It's a nuclear submarine--perhaps, matt, they need the time to see if there is any leakage. We have come experience with Russian nuclear mishaps.

Matt, Melinda shared a summary privately:

The EU security conference was meeting with the Marshall of the Supreme Court at their joint base in Antarctica.

Among things that exist:

We don’t know on Pence.

The Russian sub got towed into port yesterday (ie not new)

Iran had an earthquake.

The #twoweeks is akin to “free beer tomorrow” signs at bars.

Narciso79

I think the Russian navy is as screwed up as ours, just considering their submarine incidents that carrier which is falling apart.

henry

Almost forgot:

EU announced new officers today:

Lagarde to the EU Bank

The German defense minister to head of EU.

JM Hanes

Narciso:

It’s actually rather interesting that the Koch/Soros/Parsi felt the need to stake out new territory in DC. Are they looking to be the in-town shadow government to Kerry et al the other roving ambassadors? I can see Koch’s interest — he’s not republican or conservative, he’s a libertarian, which is really a rather distinct isolationist animal when it comes to foreign policy. Perhaps Soros is experimenting with a constituency he hasn’t made much effort at cultivating before.

I agree about the Globe article (which I was surprised to discover was posted in the opinion section where it belonged) — category turtles all the way down — but the author was right about one thing, it’s certainly qualifies as a “remarkable partnership” worth keeping tabs on.

bubarooni

Lagarde to the EU Bank?

German Defence Minister to head of EU?

I'm sure that the EU's eastern and southern tier of states will be heartened by this development.

Narciso79

It seems to be a very naive noninterventionisn like that which underlay the Washington naval conference in the 20s as well as Kellogg briand

JM Hanes

Does anyone know if the VP has a second plane that carries all the hardware he needs on the ground, like the President does? Someone official said that Pence had never left DC, so I wondered if maybe it was his advance team that got turned around? It just seems to me that a simple cancellation wouldn’t have generated such a specific rumor about his being en route when plans were changed.

Of course, I have no clue what might or might not be happening, or whether it relates to Russian events. It does seem like no one is inclined to fill us in.

MissMarple2

JM Hanes,

I am totally mystified as well. Several people on Twitter posted a flight path which showed (supposedly) AF2 heading to New Hampshire, then circling around for a bit, then going back to DC.

No idea if that was an accurate flight path, if it was AF2, or if it was agitprop.

Mark Knoller of CBS Radio says there are no public or press events for either the President or VP tomorrow. He posted this like it was significant, which I don't know if it is true or just more press piling on.

Narciso79

It's right up there with the amateur kremlinology they engaged on the Korean question this week.

macthenaif

All is well here, Jane. Current geospatial coordinates put me within the boundaries of the 31st state to enter the Union.

Apropos of the presidential perambulations in the demilitarized zone, the reaction I saw has delivered me from the misapprehension that no unconventional border crossing could leave the left disgruntled.

Trump knows how to suck the air out of the dem's room every time. Rally on MuellerDay. A goodly portion of the idiocracy will have to be in South Carolina.

Clarice, that poem is uh. pretty harsh. Great rhyming, but cannibals along the river were not a thing in the Congo as far as I know. Screaming tribesmen, yes. But I think the whole missionary stew was debunked, wasn't it?

Long pig was, on the other hand, a South Seas delicacy.

That person doesn't know how to cheat.

That article about McGovern brought back memories. I saw Muskie speak once after he'd been the Hump's VP candidate; he seemed like a nice guy but definitely a small timer. I wasn't surprised that he had an emotional meltdown after some reporters badmouthed his wife, probably not very severely.

Then, as now, the donks are going Lord of the Flies feral with no adult supervision. Nixon was a strange individual. He'd have been better off by just telling the people that hated him "I know you're pissed off because I revealed your commie hero, Alger Hiss. Too damn bad; I wish I could go back in time and do it all over again. Fuck that guy in particular." Instead he did a bunch of RINO things to try and win them over, which crashed and burned immediately.

The RINOs never learn that lesson; it's part of what defines them.

What do those familiar with von Hayek make of this?

Describing the High priest of the Open Society and his ideas, Marek G wrote: "The bulk of von Hayek's writing is devoted to the elaboration of methods of making people mutually alien, devoid of any trace of friendship and altruism. He proposes that populations of the Global Empire should be constantly intermixed, so no durable and distinct cultures will appear(or remain preserved from the past) Inhabitants of the Global Empire are supposed to be nationhood-less(and thus automatically identity-less) humanoids, "individualistically" moving in directions dictated to them by "invisible" financial commanders, whose existence is implicit in Hayek's writings. He proclaims that "Liquidation of the sovereignty of states is the necessary and logical goal of the liberal program." The only collective goal of human activity admitted in the Global Empire should be acquisition of private property, especially of these mobile, shining items which are subjects of a competitive mass production and distribution."-Israel Shamir
