This news report about a possible mass shooter in a Missouri WalMArt is being spun by some as "good guy with gun stops bad guy with gun".
IMHO that won't hold up. The real story will be "Gun nut exercising his Missouri open-carry rights terrorizes a WalMart, is lucky he wasn't shot". I predict his narrative will be, "We all learned WalMArts are dangerous so I armored up and gunned up to protect myself and others".
A dark horse - a lefty provacateur making a point about the problems with open carry. I doubt a lefty has the props or the chops for a stunt like this.
Time will tell, although this 5 Fast Facts came in after my bets were down on Twitter.

Look, you just mentioned two people by name who I know, Chuck Todd and Jake Tapper. I don’t agree with a lot of what they say on their shows, but I know they’re good people, and I know they’re great husbands and fathers.
If Kellyanne believes that, she is a goddamn moron.
They're good husbands? Well, Hitler liked dogs, so I guess everyone has some good qualities, right?
Wrong. I don't care if they are good husbands and fathers, they're still vile, toxic lying scumbags who make the world a worse place every second that they draw breath, and to pretend otherwise is disgusting.

The biggest reason we hang out on The Ledge is that we figured out a long time ago that no politicians pay the slightest bit of attention to what we say.
Posted by: Buckeye | August 09, 2019 at 01:26 PM
So now nearly a whole week has gone by. The entire field of Dem Presidential candidates, including a former Vice-President, just about every news outlet in the MSM and many other politicians have expressed the opinion repeatedly and urgently that Trump is a white supremacist racist, and so are his supporters. And after this relentless, full court press, what is the result? His Rasmussen Approval is still at 47%. This also after the stock market bull run has been shown to be remarkably fragile.
Posted by: peter | August 09, 2019 at 01:26 PM
What is your responsibility in all this then.
Boris' normal responsibility is to remain silent for days and then descend on his winged chariot to try to pull Tom R's ass out of a self inflicted fire by generalizing about members of The Ledge.
Tom has been away for too long so Boris figured he had to set a fire himself.

However, peter, Trump's Strongly Approve/Strongly Disapprove number is back to double digits (-10). And 47%, given how the economy has gone, shows that the attacks of the Media/Academia/Business/Entertainment Wokeness Quartet have been somewhat effective.
I think Stephanie a few threads ago had the best analysis on how much of a slog 2020 is going to be.

By the way, OL, I have a new place for you to deplete your retirement resources when you take your family out. DuckDuckGo Strip by Strega Boston. And no, despite the name, it's not a place where Destiny and Tatiana do champagne rooms; it's a high end Boston restaurant with great food (although the fact that I wasn't footing the bill may have made the food tastier and the wine more flavorful). The ledge is not bad nor will it become like TomR.
We are reasonable , likeable people with a realistic point of view, open to other opinions and many of us are optimistic with a feeling of certainty that President Trump will win again.
Posted by: D | August 09, 2019 at 02:42 PM
TK, I too have always agreed with you on the value of critical input from Trump supporters. But when I did/do that, it is always as me,supporter, not "We The Ledge".
Some of the biggest fights I have had here when Sessions was sleeping under his tree, and Trump was triangulating against departments of which he was in fact the CEO, or when he was relying on blaming (pre-existing) politicians for promises Trump himself made but failed to deliver...which griping from me drew fire from many friends here who were instead saying nothing but rah rah cheers for the guy was that the downside of groupie like adulation is that big headed politicians even Trump might come to believe their own BS. I have mixed (meaning I see the good and the bad) feelings about his rallies for just that reason.
I have always thought that the risk to any person elected based on very specific promises of what he could/WOULD accomplish even knowing the Swamp was there, is that by his next election he has to be accountable for not performing.
I absolutely understand why promises might be impossible, but it offends me greatly to pretend 1)the promise was never made, or 2)it WAS accomplished.
I was promised a Wall from sea to sea and therefore a fully controlled border (of course I knew it could not be completely built by now...). I was promised a radical reformation of the Tax Code that will not turn into a pumpkin in 2016. I was promised a quick final end and burial of ObamaCare.
Along the way all sorts of related side promises and predictions were made.
Now many good and great things have gotten better, for sure. And for sure the Swamp was shown to be stronger than any of us here knew (but we thought he knew more). And he has done more than well enough to get my vote the next time. But don't pretend that any of the big three were moved much off their starting place; don't pretend he did not let lesser politicians eat his lunch along the way.
And at the end of each day, I retreat to the bar on the Ledge which I share with like minded JOMers, and together we watch Rome burn.

The passenger side window was smashed and all the stuff she had in the car was taken. :(
By the way, she's leaving on Sunday for a trip to China. It is one of those business/cultural exchange trips. She went several years ago,but I'm nervous about this trip because of all the recent news. *pours more wine*

So the Texas mother expressed concern about her son ability to buy a gun and we condemned Lanza's mother for having guns in her house and the Loughners not getting help for her son. Where do we draw the happy medium for family members taking responsibilities for their child's actions. Question of maturity and parent responsibility pervades many of the issues of the day such as abortion, gun rights and student loans. Problem is that the millenial generation has not grown up.

Aren't there some Minnesota peeps on this board?
My daughter has been handed a belt of territory in Minnesota that runs from just north of St Cloud up to about Grand Rapids and runs east to west all the way across the state.
She sells shredding services with Shreddit.
She's got Duluth but outside of that there doesn't seem to be a lot in her territory. She asked me if I had any ideas on how to develop it.
I told her there might be some large mines or lumber operations out in the middle of nowhere that she could call on.
Any tips along those lines would be greatly appreciated.

Otherwise a broken window plus stolen battery were guaranteed. (I also told the guard in his kiosk ten feet from where I parked of my new precautions).

bubarooni,
No question running up 61 up to Grand Portage, gets you the Lutsen Resort, Cleveland Cliffs mine, Two Harbors mines, And a host of little law firms, besides Financial Advisors all the way up. If a shredding truck made that run, twice a month all summer, given all the retirees up there, you could set up a nice regular business, for the summer and fall. Let the accountants, brokers, insurers, and lawyers finance it.
Posted by: Melinda | August 09, 2019 at 04:26 PM
Bubarooni, Brainerd (as seen in Fargo) seems to be in that territory. Other than that, iron mining operations around Duluth? Shipping out of Duluth?
I’m more familiar with areas south of there, most of my MN manufacturing customers are south (but not in Minneapolis or Rochester).

The only response to them is Break the system. Every time you see an unhinged FB post or overhear a prog neighbor ranting angrily about the President, call in a report to 911.
Every time. After all, they might have a gun in their home, you don’t know. Make a dozen reports a day. Maybe create a bot to scan for dangerous keywords on twitter and FB and generate automatic emails to the police.
