Beto has re-booted his campaign and now I'm booting too:
The Daily 202: The newest purity test for Democrats is whether to mandate assault weapons buybacks
Oh, brother.
Former Texas congressman Beto O’Rourke unveiled a detailed gun-control proposal this morning that calls for a “mandatory buyback program for assault weapons and a voluntary buyback program for handguns.” Critics say this would amount to government confiscation of firearms that people have bought legally. O’Rourke proposes an increase in the excise tax on gun manufacturers and stiff fines on gun traffickers to enable the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to purchase all the assault weapons he wants to ban. Individuals who fail to sell their assault rifles would then face fines.
O’Rourke is taking this hard line as he restarts his campaign nearly two weeks after 22 people were massacred at a Walmart in his hometown of El Paso, the deadliest attack against the Latino community in American history. The former congressman’s plan also calls for creating a nationwide gun licensing system. “If at this moment we do not wake up to this threat, then we, as a country, will die in our sleep,” O’Rourke said in an emotional half-hour speech yesterday.
Oh, brother brother.
First, as a matter of rhetoric I hate his speechwriter's decision to go with 'If we don't wake up to this threat, we will die in our sleep from gun violence'. Sure, sleep, wake, got it. But its a clash of imagery - what, I'm going to get shot while I'm asleep? How? During a home invasion? Why would I agree to disarm after having that idea put in my head?
And anyway, dying in one's sleep is an aspiration! What's the old folk wisdom? "I want to die in my sleep like my uncle, not screaming like terror like the passengers in his car".
As to the politics, this proposal ranks up their with open borders and free health café for undocumented future Democrats. Do Beto, Liz Warren and others think they can win the Presidency (and hold the House) by boosting their support in California, New York and Massachusetts while cratering it in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin? Do they even remember the idea of "swing states" or are they moving left so fast they think they've already abolished the Electoral College?
The crazy is coming faster then ever in the Dem nominating process. And wait until a few of the moderates drop out and the rest (like Beto) reposition. Hang on!
Old Lurker,
You make a good point there. I should have looked at my phrasing and reasoning more carefully.
However, There is lots of circumstantial evidence on these pedophile rings, and I am tired of being told that because I find things looking fishy, that I am some sort of wild-eyed loon.

In the same manner, believing against any common sense that Trump colluded with Russia causing Hillary to lose requires one to ignore that Hillary was a rotten, obviously sick candidate with an awful record of malfeasance and incompetence . Time to speak some hard truths about Anthony Scaramucci:

2. His viewpoints are largely both left of center and ill-informed.

Conspiracy theories are so much more fun.
Facts will out in this case.
It was a calvalcade of misfortune and missteps.
Everything aligned to allow motive and opportunity to complete the suicide.
Epstein saw his chance and he took it.
If he sounded certain and sane to the psychiatrist, it was probably because he had already formulated his plan.
A certain peace of mind comes, when you know what you are going to do and how you will determine how your life will end.
Robin Williams comes to mind in terms of the method.

I heard somewhere it's the first suicide in MCC in 40 years. Kinda odd. Camera system was down. Fishy at least. Guards asleep. A bit to convenient I'd say. A broken hyoid bone. WTF is that even!
I'd say there were a lot of things that aligned in a most unlikely fashion.
Nonetheless, Rocco has me thinking based on his experience JE coulda whacked himself.
After today's report, I'm gonna go ahead and go with that theory.
Barr's promising to get to the bottom of this colossal f'up and hold people accountable.
Unless other info surfaces, and it could during an investigation, I think it more likely he whacked himself than that Cabal of Nefarious Mandarins Who Rule Us All whacked him.
At least for the moment...

I was inside MCC once, in the 1970s. I was a law student working for a big Wall Street law firm. The firm was doing pro bono work for prisoners. I suspect it was a write-off of first year associates' times plus good publicity. Anyway, I was asked to go the MCC and serve the warden with a subpoena in a prisoner's rights case. I went there in a business suit, showed the entrance guard the subpoena, and went inside. They stamped the back of my hand with that invisible ink that shows under a black light, like some night clubs did at the time. Once inside, no one could direct me to someone who would accept service of process of the subpoena. I wandered around inside for about 45 minutes, went to several different floors until I found someone who said they would accept the papers. It was a really low security place. I didn't see any bars-most of the walls were sheetrock. When I tried to leave, the guard at the entrance station had changed. The new guard asked me who I was. For a few seconds it occurred to me that I might not get out so easily. I told the guard why I was there and he let me out. It occurred to me that someone could have smuggled in a business suit and easily have talked his way out. The second guard never even asked to look at the stamp on my hand. MCC was also the place where now deceased leftist lawyer Lynne Stewart smuggled out materials and messages from the Blind Sheik. It is also the prison where one of the terrorist allies of the Blind Sheik used a comb to stab one of the guards in the eye.
