Rocco,

If that is correct, then every damn person involved in that investigation, from Mueller on down, plus a bunch of the continuing harassers like Nadler and Schiff, probably should face charges.

Rocco,

I sure hope so! Melinda and I think that this is being rolled out in stages.

One thing I would like to see is people tried somewhere other than the DC/Virginia area, since everyone seems to work for or with, or be related in some way to everyone else involved in this mess.

For example, all of those FBI types should be tried out in Idaho or Nebraska. Or Indiana, if those are too far.

MM, can't happen--court must consider where the offense occurred, where the defendants and witnesses are to be found and such. You can't charge someone who lives in the DC metro area for crimes committed here and where the witnesses work and reside in a venue far far away.

“Truth over facts” explains all the commie butthurt about a stat that has no meaning (or existence).

While it’s “possible to treat temperature statistically locally,” says Science Daily, “it is meaningless to talk about a global temperature for Earth. The globe consists of a huge number of components which one cannot just add up and average. That would correspond to calculating the average phone number in the phone book. That is meaningless.”

My mother sent out an e-mail extolling Flathead's NYT column today on how Trump has been making support for Israel a partisan issue, by tarring the Democrats with Tlaib and Omar's virulent anti-Semitic anti-Israel statements. I haven't and won't read it, but either he or my mother extends this to a claim that Trump is being divisive more generally.

I'd like to respond by pointing out how Obama did much the same, especially on racial issues. I remember "The police acted stupidly," but it seems to me there were lots of examples. Anyone have more in their memory bank?

She went on to say it was so rare have a Trump supporter to talk to, and her mother and her boyfriend were visiting, and he was a "Corrupt News Network" watcher and she simply couldn't stand it. And she went on and on and voiced her worry that no one supported Trump and she didn't think he could win again.

MM, usually, venue is not complicated. SSehn it is the court must consider elements like thos I named--place where crime occurred, location of defendant and witnesses--even sometimes whether pretrial publicity has poisoned the jury well in the place where the case would normally be heard. You might recall, Senator Stevens wanted his case heard in Alaska, not DC..his house was there, his main residence was there, the key witnesses were there, but J. Sullivan refused his request.

Jane, I had a similar experience on the UWS of all places. I was walking down a local residential street and someone had left a piano at the curbside, as if the city garbage collectors would haul it away. A 60-ish guy was checking it out and we started to chat. He took a picture of it on his phone, and I noticed that he had one of those little cardholders on the phone and it said TRUMP. So naturally that started a whole new conversation. We ended up chatting for 20 minutes. Turned out he was from Detroit like me, about 5 years older. He had some stories about financial corruption and the Clintons, and also how he'd essentially lost his job at the Metropolitan Opera (he was an actor, not a singer, there) over his outspoken Trump support (he didn't care that much, as he'd had enough of that job, I guess).

From a friend's email:

This article was written by a college student by the name of Alyssa Ahlgren,
who's in grad school for her MBA. It's a short article but definitely worth a read.
I would love to see this go viral!!

"College Student: My Generation Is Blind to the Prosperity Around Us"

I’m sitting in a small coffee shop near Nokomis trying to
think of what to write about. I scroll through my newsfeed
on my phone looking at the latest headlines of Democratic
candidates calling for policies to “fix” the so-called
injustices of capitalism. I put my phone down and continue
to look around. I see people talking freely, working on their
MacBook’s, ordering food they get in an instant, seeing
cars go by outside, and it dawned on me. We live in the
most privileged time in the most prosperous nation and
we’ve become completely blind to it. Vehicles, food,
technology, freedom to associate with whom we choose.
These things are so ingrained in our American way of life
we don’t give them a second thought. We are so well off
here in the United States that our poverty line begins 31
times above the global average. Thirty. One. Times.
Virtually no one in the United States is considered poor by
global standards. Yet, in a time where we can order a
product off Amazon with one click and have it at our
doorstep the next day, we are unappreciative, unsatisfied,
and ungrateful.

Our unappreciation is evident as the popularity of socialist
policies among my generation continues to grow.
Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
recently said to Newsweek talking about the millennial
generation, “An entire generation, which is now becoming
one of the largest electorates in America, came of age and
never saw American prosperity.”

Never saw American prosperity! Let that sink in. When I
first read that statement, I thought to myself, that was quite
literally the most entitled and factually illiterate thing I’ve
ever heard in my 26 years on this earth. Many young
people agree with her, which is entirely misguided. My
generation is being indoctrinated by a mainstream
narrative to actually believe we have never seen
prosperity. I know this first hand, I went to college, let’s
just say I didn’t have the popular opinion, but I digress.
Why then, with all of the overwhelming evidence around
us, evidence that I can even see sitting at a coffee shop,
do we not view this as prosperity? We have people who
are dying to get into our country. People around the world
destitute and truly impoverished. Yet, we have a young
generation convinced they’ve never seen prosperity, and
as a result, elect politicians dead set on taking steps
towards abolishing capitalism. Why? The answer is this,
my generation has only seen prosperity. We have no
contrast. We didn’t live in the great depression, or live
through two world wars, the Korean War, The Vietnam
War or see the rise and fall of socialism and communism.
We don’t know what it’s like to live without the internet,
without cars, without smartphones. We don’t have a lack
of prosperity problem. We have an entitlement problem,
an ungratefulness problem, and it’s spreading like a plague."

Our economy is the best in the world, by far. Lowest unemployment ever within almost all categories. Poised for big growth after trade deals are completed. Import prices down, China eating Tariffs. Helping targeted Farmers from big Tariff money coming in. Great future for USA!

MissMarple3

Jack,

That is a really good article. It's exactly right, too.

MissMarple3

Back in a bit. Sinus headache.

Jim Eagle

MM,

Thanks. But let that observation sink in. When you are doing good, have a secure and happy life, you never pay attention to why. Its jealousy that drives the likes of the "Squad". They can't stand the fact that their narrative has been corrupted and bypassed by the exact condition they can't accept.

jimmyk

MT, I read the Zman piece quickly. I think his general condemnation of the "credit-based" economy is overly broad. Private credit is essential. The problem is that credit was and continues to be substantially nationalized, i.e. backed by the government, which means the underwriters of risk are getting a "heads we win, tails you (the taxpayers) lose" deal. That was true in 2008 with Fannie and Freddie and all the TBTF institutions, and it's still a problem today, notably with student loans.

anonamom

So, Epstein's people monitored the autopsy.

Here's his attorneys' position, from a link posted at Insty:
https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-08-18/epstein-prison-guards-not-cooperating-doj-probe

"We are not satisfied with the conclusions of the medical examiner," they said, adding "We will have a more complete response in the coming days" (and will bill Epstein's estate accordingly, we're sure).

But if I don't accept the ME's conclusion, I make the USA a third world country.

What's a (far more skeptical than I was five years ago) girl to do?

clarice

The medical examiner's report was based on more than the autopsy.we still haven't seen it so we don't know what beyond the autopsy was done. I expect in the autopsy the coroner checked JE's hand and face to see if there were any bruises consistent with a struggle. I'm sticking with my belief it was suicide until I see more evidence that it was not. If that offends anyone so be it.

clarice

As I believe the JE lawyers are trying to build a case of wrongful death, and the jailers are afraid of being sued or fired, it's no wonder they aren't cooperating. Union counsel is doubtless advising them not to speak without a grant of immuity from the govt and a waiver of liability from Je's lawyers.

James D.

Clarice, it may well have been suicide.

From where i sit, though, NOBODY in an official capacity in this story has any credibility, because they have ALL destroyed it by years - decades - of lies and corruption.

If the ME came out and said that 1+1=2, I'd check it with my calculator, and if the calculator agreed, I'd replace the batteries and check again, and still not trust the result.

And it's entirely their fault for creating this situation. If they hadn't lied and lied and lied and lied and lied, then I could take what they say at face value - both the bare facts they report and the conclusions they draw from them.

But they have lied, over and over, so I don't trust any of them, and I assume that whatever the worst, most crooked thing I could imagine the real truth being, it's probably even worse than that.

AB, I'll channel a-mom and say I don't give investment advice (and I'm not an investment advisor or CFP or any of that). But in general if you want to preserve your savings you should shift some (not all) into fixed income, mainly treasuries and AAA-rated bonds. Longer-term bonds will increase in value if interest rates go down. The problem is you're screwed if there's high inflation. So you need to leave some of your money in real assets like the stock market and real estate. But those are just general principles.

JIB, I was wondering today, if trump loses and the economy tanks, everyone will blame it on Trump, because they simply don't understand the path we are currently on. It would be the dumbest thing ever done in this country. I can't even think of a republican who could duplicate it.
