My pick for the debate highlight was too silly to make the news but here we go: VP Joe Biden and Gov. Inslee were grappling on energy policy and climate change. Inslee was insisting that time is running out and we had to take BOLD STEPS NOW, leading to this classic exchange:
INSLEE: ...I've heard you say that we need a realistic plan. Here's what I believe...
BIDEN: No, I didn't say that.
We can't put up realistic plans, this is a Democratic debate!
They Said What? Here Are The 13 Nuttiest Quotes From Wednesday's Democratic Presidential Debate
13 Kirsten Gillibrand: “The first thing that I’m going to do when I’m president is I’m going to Clorox the Oval Office.”
#12 Jay Inslee: “Our house is on fire. We have to stop using coal in ten years and we need a president to do it or it won’t get done. Get off coal. Save this country and the planet.”
#11 Joe Biden: “Obamacare is working.”
#10 Julian Castro: “I don’t want to make America anything again. I don’t want us to go backward. We’re not going back to the past. We’re not going back where we came from. We’re going to move forward.”
#9 Andrew Yang: “We need to do the opposite of much of what we’re doing right now and the opposite of Donald Trump is an Asian man who likes math.”
#8 Kamala Harris: “What we need is someone who is going to be on that debate stage with Donald Trump and defeat him by being able to prosecute the case against four more years. And let me tell you we’ve got a long rap sheet.”
#7 Cory Booker: “We have a real crisis in our country, and the crisis is Donald Trump — but not only Donald Trump, I have a frustration that sometimes people are saying the only thing they want is to beat Donald Trump. Well, that is the floor and not the ceiling.”
#6 Bill de Blasio: “If we’re going to beat Donald Trump, this has to be a party that stands for something. The party of labor unions. This has to be the party of universal health care. This has to be the party that’s not afraid to say out loud we’re going to tax the hell out of the wealthy. And when we do that, Donald Trump right on cue will call us socialists. Here’s what I’ll say to him: ‘Donald, you’re the real socialist.'”
#5 Jay Inslee: “And number two — number two, we have to make America what it’s always been, a place of refuge. We got to boost the number of people we accept. I’m proud to have been the first governor, saying send us your Syrian refugees. I proud to have the first governor to stand up against Donald Trump’s Muslim ban. I’m proud to have sued him 21 times and beat him 21 times in a row. I’m ready for November 2020.”
#4 Andrew Yang: “Raise your hand in the crowd if you’ve seen stores closing where you live. It is not just you. Amazon is closing 30% of America’s stores and malls.”
#3 Cory Booker: “There’s a saying in my community that you’re dipping into the Kool-Aid and you don’t even know the flavor.”
#2 Kirsten Gillibrand: “I think as a white woman of privilege who is a US senator running for president of the united States, it is my responsibility to lift up those voices that aren’t being listened to. And I can talk to those white women in the suburbs and explain to them what white privilege actually is.”
#1 Jay Inslee: “We have one last chance. When you have one chance in life, you take it. Think about this. Literally the survival of humanity on this planet in civilization is in the hands of the next president. And we have to have a leader who will do what is necessary to save us. That includes making this the top priority of the next presidency.”

Fine. The smarter-than-thous have their place, they can sound the alarm from their perch above the battlefield.
Maybe I misunderstood the quote from Kamioner but it sounded more like he was making a rallying cry from the front lines of the battlefield and he directed towards a group of Trump supporters that are less active than those here on JOM.
Here are some of his writings:
https://www.opslens.com/author/dkamioner/
Thankfully JOM doesn't have anyone that rides the perch position as well. There isn't a single comment I have read here that suggests that anyone here(verandah, ledge, dock, etc) would skip the battle. The only thing I have noticed is the Ledge's armchair Generals don't get a pass on their speculation like the other armchair generals do.

At Living Cities, we are actively working to re-imagine a world without racial wealth and income gaps. We fundamentally believe that to truly change systems, we must envision an America where wealth is abundant and shared, where everyone has the resources and opportunity to realize their dreams, and where race is no longer a predictor of life outcomes.
As a country, we find ourselves in a critical moment both socially and historically. To create an America without racial wealth and income gaps, we must imagine a society based on collaboration and interdependence. This approach demands that we reflect on our own personal accountability and our roles in the world. We are called to stretch, be uncomfortable, center humanity, and ultimately use our individual and collective abilities to build new, inclusive cultural norms.
From here https://www.livingcities.org/blog/1342-a-day-in-a-life-imagining-a-country-without-racial-gaps-infographic
Living Cities is the renamed entity that was created originally by the Ford and Rockefeller Foundations. Now it is funded by virtually every major commercial and investment bank in the country. That's the vision.

Okay, sorry, I wasn't too clear.
Let's say there is a preferred DNC candidate X. Given current party disunity, is the leadership strong enough to force X through? Or will the backlash from Bernie v. Hillary + the desire for a far left candidate be so great that the leadership might have to acquiesce to a less preferable, but more popular candidate?
Another angle - I'm wondering if leadership will realize (privately) at some point that they're going to lose, so they'll let one of the wacko birds through so that later they can say "told you so, now let the adults take over again."
Sort of like the GOP's strategy with Goldwater and later Reagan (although it failed, thankfully). And the GOPe's Tea Party strategy. And maybe the Dems with McGovern? Not sure on that one.

Be prepared for more disappointment. The affiant for a FISA warrant has to swear under oath that the FISA packet has accurate information. The affiant is the person who is at legal risk of getting indicted. Comey wasn't the affiant for any FISA application so he likely doesn't have anything to worry about.
Now obviously that changes if Horowitz/Durham can prove Comey knew the FISA warrants involved in Spygate contained false information and he submitted it to the DAG (Yates first then Rosenstein) anyway.

TLG, I don’t know why. It’s just what I see every day. Beards seem to be the majority. Sports dudes in the pros, plus regular dudes. I fiound beard / Stacie grooming to be more work than shaving (back in college), plus a beard in summer itches. I’ll skip the shaving in hunting camp for two weeks, but that has more to do with a lack of hot water where the ducks are. Two weeks of beard is enough to not want beard the rest of the year.

Hiring Juan was just as bad as Ailes hiring Shemp although there was at least a reasonable expectation that Williams, after being stabbed in the back by NPR over merely expressing a not particularly controversial wrong speak, might appreciate that Fox wouldn't resort to such trash practices. But Juan's a special kind of retard.

Generally speaking, CH, when ledgers are upset with progress they are admonished rather quickly. Lately I see "instant gratification" being leveled.
About a month ago I was making the argument that Trump also relys on his more critical supporters to keep him from going out of bounds. I compared those supporters to others on the other spectrum. I don't remember the exacf term but it was akin to "blind faith." I caught some grief from several JOMers.
You asked me to explain what I meant and I realized that I chose the wrong term. You were polite to point out that others may not understand what I was saying but you understood my point.
I have steered clear of that kind of terminology because I don't believe any of the regulars here are Jim Jones type followers.
Neither do I think that any JOMers sit on a perch waiting out the battle.

PATRIOT Act was evil from day 1. On GHWB, I was in Paul MacAvoy’s class the day after George became VP candidate.the voodoo economics quote. MacAvoy was GHWB’s economic advisor, the class was Regulatory Economics. I was a backer for both Bush’s (I liked expanding Mt DKEmore), shook W’s hand on an early trip to WI. But even with that, some policies made no sense. W with a new entitlement in Medicare Part D? HW with a tax increase? Some things don’t compute.
Same issues with Trump. Paid Family Leave? Encryption backdoor? Hell no! My vote has never equaled worship.

Posted by: Pinandpuller | August 01, 2019 at 06:18 PM
To use Jeff Sessions as an example, I definitely would have enjoyed the instant gratification of him being tossed out the second he recused. But I made it clear that I understood the need for Trump to be patient as he navigated the swamp mess.
In retrospect I believe we would have kept The House and Trump could have still executed his plan to expose and rattle every Dem and lousy Republican out there if Sessions would have been given the boot.
I am grumbly about shit like that, but I've never vowed to sit on the sidelines*. In December Trump himself touted the declassification of the dirt on these assholes. Then he didn't do it. It pissed me off. DiGenova screws up enough for me to mock him with the #2weeks. Trump doesn't then get a pass when he does it.
I still think expressing dissatisfaction out loud is a valuable tool. It is nice having plenty of people rowing the Trump ship forward but I also think it is necessary for some of them to point out the rocky shoals to the CIC.

Generally speaking when ledgers are upset with progress and repeat their complaints over and over they receive no admonishment at all ... whereas "blind faith" support comments often provoke ledge response:
Now of course Trump listens, as any good military General would, to the bellyache grumblers when planning future actions and we all should be more grateful for their guidance and diligence.Posted by: boris | August 01, 2019 at 06:32 PM

On the “ruling class” topic earlier, a bit of Hazy Rabbit (Lakefront Brewery) led me to contemplate. “You might be ruling class if” type questions. This doesn’t mean you have to be a jewel towards real people as President Trump and his family demonstrate (though few qualifiers understand this). Is Trump ruling class? Yes. That is what pisses them off. He has lived as one of them, and saw through their bullshit. [politicians by my definition are owned, they do not rule].
Sample questions: you might be ruling class if...
You are an Ivy graduate.
You had / have a serving elected official on your payroll.
Your grandparent went to school with a president.
Your uncle was naval aide to a president.
Your parent went to college with a presidential candidate.
You went to college with a presidential candidate.
A presidential candidate you went to college with wasn’t on your dating radar.
You showered with a Presidential candidate.
——-
On that list, Trump is an ivy grad. I score 100. So I suppose Trump is more an outsider than I am.

Ext, you can’t fix a slum if you don’t buy it. Consider British oil spot theory in Malaysia applied to an urban core.

Jewel should have been “jerk” to capture the negative properly. The Trumps treat people as winners, the politicians treat people as subjects.
