Beginning in 2020, spray sprinklers will be required to be sold with a component that restricts the water flow to as close as possible to 30 pounds per square inch (PSI), the manufacturer-recommended level.

“California’s standard requires new spray sprinkler bodies to come with built-in pressure regulation, so that the water pressure reaching the sprinkler nozzle is always close to the manufacturer’s recommended operating pressure,” according to the NRDC.

The pressure regulating component will add about $3 to the sprinkler’s price tag, “but the cost is offset by water savings within the first year, making the technology highly cost-effective over the life of the product,” according to the NRDC.

Here's hoping it's a cure, because the last time it happened, I (correctly) called it jumping to Sierra Leone from Congo, as it did once it hit Goma, (there is plenty of back and forth travel) and it's in Goma again, and guess whose baby is in Sierra Leone?!

I'm going to write THE paper describing second hand PTSD.

Thanks, peter!

To recap, as it was at the end of the last thread, my daughter just got laid off and is pretty upset.

She was working as a claims taker (phone) for a commercial insurance company who writes insurance for trucking firms, construction equipment, etc.

Narciso

Prayers for you miss marple.

Porchlight

MM, what is your daughter's field of work?

anonamom

Let's talk about my new washer, IRT to "savings." Had to replace the fifty plus year old one here at the lake last month.
Got the cheapest one Costco had on its 4th of July sale--a GE model that I thought was simple. Damn--it's electronic.

My current work around is to use "Deep Rinse" and the "Quick Wash settings--otherwise whatever the hell it does, it does for well over an hour, and tears up fabric. How can it rip a rag rug???
From reviews, of all kinds of models--very common.

So, whatever it saves in water, it's costing in electricity, my time, and wear and tear on fabric.

Porchlight

Oops, sorry MM, I read too slow. I don't know what the jobs situation is where you're living, but that seems like a skill set that should be fairly portable. You might look at temp firms to bridge the gap between jobs.

Captain Hate

Miss Marple,

Was it part of an overall workforce reduction? Because that type of job doesn't seem seasonal or overly dependent on the underlying economy. She should have a better chance of landing on her feet than during Gaylord's economy.

There are hacks to remove the plastic valve in "water saving" shower heads that restricts flow. Might be the same for sprinklers.

Rocco, I think you said some days ago that you think Epstein's death was suicide based on your experience in corrections. You're probably right. But the mind boggling extent of corruption necessary for fixing the 2016 election -- exonerating Hillary, framing Trump, all of the spying that went into it -- leads me to think that knocking off Epstein would be a piece of cake for the shot callers in the swamp.

MissMarple3

MM, been there.

I assume this was a layoff and not a termination for cause.

Was there any severance package offered?

Get her signed up for unemployment ASAP.

Maybe go to the bank that holds the mortgage and ask what they an do re. some forbearance. (I didn’t have to do that, so I don’t know what pitfalls that might have though.)

Obviously, husband whatever cash there is carefully. (Which you’re already likely doing.)

Another Bob

My wife went to Kelly when she was between jobs and got a “temp” job that turned into a permanent position six months later.

MissMarple3

More news on daughter.

This was not a termination for cause. She got $3000 in severance but they will take her insurance out of that for a month or so.

Melinda sent me a listing for a position at IU Health, and I told her I would contact my friend who retired from the Indiana Cancer Registry. My youngest sister also has contacts at some of the hospitals, and a few blocks from us is a company that specializes in fire and water restoration amd which has a big sign up which says they are hiring (although most are for the trades, I am pretty sure).

She said her position started at $15/hour but she was making $19/hr due to raises so she thinks maybe this might have been cost-cutting.

I have her looking up how to file for unemployment and what to do before she files, so that should keep her busy this afternoon.

The severance made me feel better, as she should do fine as far as references and such.

Captain Hate

Or put in more sprinklers to cover the area the lower pressure doesn't cover.
Wouldn't surprise me if it didn't end up using more water.

BTW taking the little gizmo out of a shower head as Porch mentioned is at most about a five minute job.

I’d steer away from Fire & Water restoration biz, given a choice.

Tom B, I'm sure Hillary had ties to the mob and cartels so sure, the swamp could have put a hit on him. And that's why I question giving him such a dangerous cellmate in the first place. If there's anything nefarious about this, it's at the top of MCC Manhattan and above that.

If they granted the lawyers request for Epstein to come off suicide watch, why didn't they also grant his request to be transferred to another facility? So he wanted out of that institution and what does the institution do? They put him right back into the same situation.

Right now I'm still thinking he did it, probably because he was scared to death...so to speak!

I mentioned Shannan Gilbert's hyoid bone this morning and voila, here's an article that mentions how Michael Baden oversaw both Epstein's and Shannan Gilbert's autopsies, and it goes into the hyoid issue:

https://www.crimeonline.com/2019/08/15/jeffrey-epstein-autopsy-found-multiple-breaks-in-neck-bones-deepening-questions-about-reported-jailhouse-suicide/

Tom Bowler

Rocco, Epstein certainly had reason to be terrified. I hear pedophiles don't do well in prison.

But I guess my real point was that we can't underestimate the swamp -- the corruption, the vastness, the reach, and sheer brazenness. And, sad to say, it has the full backing of the media. I'm thinking of Hillary lying her way through Benghazi hearings then getting all those press accolades for her "poise."

clarice

I wonder if the threat to Pedophiles in prisons isn't more common when their crimes involve young children and not teenage girls who look of age. Just saying--lots of conventional wisdom has buried caveats.

JimNorCal

Could Epstein's hyoid bone have already been damaged or cracked by the first Arkancide attack?
Or would he have been in constant pain, unable to swallow, etc?

clarice

There is no reasonable way to read what we know of the autopsy report except that without more it is inconclusive..these bones can be found broken on people who suicided by hanging as well as those strangulated.

Tom Bowler

I would bet you're right about crimes involving young children, Clarice.

Captain Hate

I didn't realize suicide was a verb, as well as a noun, until today.

Lemme see now. Sacramento says that a sprinkler manufacturer has to design things such that the sprinkler operates at the "design pressure". Then Sacramento says that the "design pressure" must be lowered to some unicorn friendly pressure.

Before the unicorns came, my home sprinkler system used 8 sprinkler heads. Now that they have to operate on unicorn friendly pressure, I need 24 sprinkler heads. Both systems ultimately deliver the same amount of water to my lawns. No water is saved but I get to buy 3 times as many sprinkler heads, and each one of them costs $3 extra.

I'm dealing with this sort of Sacramento nonsense in my home kitchen (a complete remodel about 10 years ago). California and local codes said I had to remove the perfectly adequate fluorescent and incandescent light bulbs. I had to install the new "environmentally friendly" light bulbs--mainly halogen types. They were supposed to (a) save energy; and (b) have a 10 year service life. BS to that. They fail frequently--average life of a bulb is maybe 8 or 9 months. Then because the contents of the bulb are hazardous, they have to go to special recycling facility. The senile morons in Sacramento strike again!

He has to be on the other side of indigency by now.

My first two years I worked the midnight shift and one night, the superintendent (warden) pulled a 3am raid to catch the officers sleeping. He drove up to shack called checkpoint and let a guy out who told the officer, "don't touch the phone" and the guy stayed with him. Then the superintendent drove to the front door where he and another guy got out, ran into the building, leaving another guy in the front office who told the officer, "don't touch the phone." Then the superintendent ran up to the first tier where he found the sergeant sleeping. Then he ran up to the second tier, then the third. And when he got back down to the first tier, the sergeant was still sleeping.

At the sergeant's disciplinary hearing, he stated that he wasn't sleeping. He was fired and won his job back in arbitration. The moral of the story...some prison guards sleep at night.

It’s not so much Epstein’s death but the convergence of sleeping guards, malfunctioning cameras and changing narratives. Were there screams? Were there not? Is Boll and Branch culpable?
