I'm on tilt here.
OK, here we go: Ebola "cured-ish", if treatment is early. This is a BFD, and to whom do we owe thanks? The US taxpayer and, well, terrorism-inspired paranoia.
From the Times:
A Cure for Ebola? Two New Treatments Prove Highly Effective in Congo
The therapies saved roughly 90 percent of the patients who were newly infected, a turning point in the decades-long fight against the virus.
...
REGN-EB3 is made by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals of Tarrytown, N.Y., which also makes other antibody treatments. Dr. Fauci’s institute, which is part of the National Institutes of Health, developed mAb114 and licensed production last year to Ridgeback Biotherapeutics, a Miami company.
[LONG Skip and...]
Development of the new treatments was supported by the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, a division of the Department of Health and Human Services concerned with fighting chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats, and pandemic diseases.
Your tax dollars at work! In partnership with two private companies, so something for everyone. Come 2021 President Bernie will be investigating these companies and fining or jailing them for not having finished this sooner, but let's focus on the now. Here is HHS announcing the new trial last year:

Don't run out and buy Regeneron (REGN) stock, however- no one is sure whether or how they will make money on this.
And the other winner, Ridgeback Biotherapeutics? As best I can tell it is owned and funded by a doctor and his wife, a health care investor, both of whom seem to have struck it rich as hedge fund heroes and are running this company to do good:
Headquartered in Miami, Florida, Ridgeback Biotherapeutics is a privately held, majority woman owned biotechnology company focused on orphan and infectious diseases. Life to date, all funding for Ridgeback Biotherapeutics has originated from Wayne and Wendy Holman; two science driven individuals who invest in technologies that they believe will make the world a better place. The team at Ridgeback is dedicated to working toward finding life-saving and life changing solutions for patients and diseases that need champions.
Yeah, take THAT, Bill and Melinda Gates!
OK, good for them, good for us, and thank you. (Now, Bernie, lock 'em up, amirite!)
Good morning! Momto2. I think you are right.

The 10 yr vs 2 yr spread, charted. Change it from a 1-yr chart to "all", which goes back to the 70's, and imagine a chart of the Dow laid on top of it - any investor with even a moderately long timeline shouldn't buy into the Chicken Little talk.

In re last night's discussion on acquiring Greenland: During WW2 and later we, the USA, basically owned it and ran it through our Army Air Force and later the USAF. My dad was Chief of Plans for the Northeast Air Command and was actively involved in developing Thule AFB. But beside Thule we also had a number of airfield operations through out Greenland.
Bluie West One airfield, later known as Narsarsuaq Air Base and Narsarsuaq Airport, was built on a glacial moraine at what is now the village of Narsarsuaq, near the southern tip of Greenland.
Sondrestrom Air Base, originally Bluie West-8, was a U.S. air base in central Greenland. The site is located 60 mi (97 km) north of the Arctic Circleand 90 mi (140 km) from the northeast end of Kangerlussuaq Fjord, formerly known by its Danish name Søndre Strømfjord. The base is approximately 11 mi (18 km) west-northwest of Ravneklippen and 80 mi (130 km) east of Sisimiut.
After our dependent's stint at Keflavik in Iceland, we were scheduled to move with my Dad to BW-1 but thankfully got cancelled and we were re-routed to Plattsburgh AFB which was under construction at the time.

Anyone ever taken a dip in the alternate media world?
I’ve been listening to this podcast that is basically economics, but had this woman Whitney Webb on talking about Epstein. (Webb seems the classic 30 year old who’s been immersed in the prog world her entire life, and therefore knows nothing.)
I wouldn’t know where to start. But in the end, it’s pretty pedestrian stuff: it’s all part of a massive decades-long sexual blackmail op run by the CIA and the Mafia with a side of Teh Joos. Stitched Roy Cohn and Meyer Lansky into this, Trump “had to” be in the “same social circles” so therefore must be somehow involved. Bunch of supposed factoids tossed around like Steven Spielberg was a protege of Lew Wasserman who worked for mobster Moe Dalitz. The Clintons and Marc Rich are somehow involved. (What that has to do with Epstein was never made clear.) No actual evidence of anything (the CIA has it all and will never release it), just a long list of six-degrees-of-separation claims, with a crap ton of implications we’re supposed to take for granted. Bill Barr comes up a few times. On and on.
I’d like to ask yo-yos like Webb if they’re part of the op, paid to throw a bunch of bizarre chaff.
Mind. Boggled.

Since his death we have learned a number of things that make you question this man’s death.
Here is a Complete List of Inconsistencies in Prison Policy Surrounding Jeffrey Epstein’s Death:
** Epstein said he was considering cooperating in “naming names” in his international sex ring
** He was found unconscious in his prison cell just three weeks earlier
** Two days prior to his death documents released for the first time implicated several top Democrats in his pedo sex ring
** He was taken off suicide watch after a failed attempt just two weeks earlier
** He was in isolation (unusual for a suicidal individual)
** The cameras malfunctioned — There is no video
** Even Mexico had video of El Chapo’s escape from prison
** Then later we hear the cameras showed the guards did not do rounds? Which is it?
** The prison guards had worked several extra shifts last week
** One prison guard on his floor was not even a certified guard
** The prison guards “forgot” to check on Epstein
** The prison guards slept through their shift
** The guards did not check Epstein for several hours
** There were reports of screaming the morning Epstein died
** The MCC had not seen a successful suicide in 40 years
** Epstein said he was the victim of attempted murder three weeks ago
** Epstein’s former roommate is facing mass murder charges
** Epstein had dirt on numerous globalist elites
** Epstein was not given paper sheets
** Epstein had sheets in his cell to hang himself
** Epstein was not suicidal according to medical professionals
** Epstein told his lawyers on Friday, a day before his death, “See you Sunday.”
** Epstein’s former roommate heard nothing
** Epstein reportedly had to get on his knees to hang himself from his bed
** Epstein autopsy showed broken bones in neck common in strangulation deaths
This prison obviously suffered a breakdown in official policy.

That's more.--
I don't know where you get some of your stuff but a lot of it doesn't make much sense.
The charts below indicate 1948 would have experienced about 1500-2000 murders. By the mid sixties it would have been around 7500 per year, peaking at ~30,000 in the early nineties. And the rate has supposedly dropped by more than half since the end of apartheid.
All stats are suspect, but especially in this neck of the woods. However South Africa has been well known as a violent area for a long time.

No reaction from last night, so will try again:
1. I think everyone would tend to agree that Epstein behaves like a psychopath.
2. Psychopaths by definition have no conscience.
3. They have no conscience, because they have no sense of time, ie, past, present, future. Therefore they can’t anticipate something bad happening to them, because they can’t anticipate the future where that could happen.
4. Therefore, Epstein would not commit suicide.

Posted by: Manuel Transmission | August 16, 2019 at 11:18 AM
Jane,
The only time I got called for jury duty, we were asked how we felt about the crime (bank robbery if I remember).
They questioned about 20 of us, all of whom were adamant that it should be puished severely.
Then we were excused for about 15 minutes, and when we came back, the judge said the defendant "had seen the handwriting on the wall" and plead guilty. So we were excused from serving and sent home.
Posted by: MissMarple3 | August 16, 2019 at 11:19 AM
I am again joking, Jane. I actually have flexibility to go but this is the first time in months I’ve been up this early and I have mixed feelings.

Posted by: Pinandpuller | August 16, 2019 at 11:19 AM
MT, a problem with your analysis. If Epstein as a psychopath cannot anticipate something bad happening to him, does that imply he cannot recognize something bad happening to him while it's happening? Total loss of control in jail would be bad (anticipated or not). Does the inability to see beyond the present flip your algebra in that instance? e.g. he cannot see the possibility of something good happening so must suicide.

This ignorant crone thinks appealing to Massholes is a good national strategy. I blame the firewater.

The NY Post says, of the rice cooker jerk...
"Police said the man appears to be homeless, wearing a blue T-shirt that appears to say “Prime Day.” He has black curly hair and a tattoo on his right arm."
I wonder what the appearance of homelessness is; in the photos he looks like any guy wearing a t-shirt. He is not particularly slovenly or anything. Really, unless they have other info, it might as well be "Police said the man appears to be a hedge fund manager on his day off", etc.

--3. They have no conscience, because they have no sense of time, ie, past, present, future. Therefore they can’t anticipate something bad happening to them, because they can’t anticipate the future where that could happen.--
I question that, MT. My experience and research indicates they have no conscience because they have no empathy and others are merely pawns to be moved about on their chessboard designed to protect their damaged inner self. Every single thing they do is calculated as to its future profit or loss to them and they are utterly unconcerned with or actually pleased by the wreckage it causes others. They are impulsive and engage in incredibly reckless behavior but it is never blind recklessness. They never want to get caught and that is part of the thrill; getting away with recklessness. But they aren't monolithic. Everyone exists on a spectrum. Some are quiet, evil nocturnal and furtive. Some are extroverted, reckless meteors.
But they are all aware that there is something profoundly wrong with them and experience life as an empty tedium. As clarice pointed out the other day, narcissists who are on that same spectrum, seem to have a higher suicide rate than the general population. I couldn't find any actual statistics for sociopaths but at some point it becomes too much of a mess to even understand. Is a person a psychopath, a narcissist, a sociopath or does he have anti social personality disorder? They overlap and interchange and are comorbid with each other and with other disorders.

The story of America’s mistreatment of American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians is a long and painful one, rooted in centuries of discrimination, neglect, greed, and violence.
What centuries in Alaska would those be, Princess? Be specific and show your work.

Henry, not sure how that mind works, but it lives only in the present, apparently.
Joe, did you kill Mary with that knife?
No, ... but I loved the way the blood dripped off the edge.
That was in the paper I read 10 yrs ago relayed by a homicide cop. Couldn’t sustain a single thought from the beginning to the end of the same sentence.
So, in Epstein’s case, he clearly is innocent always and any threat of impending death is still too abstract into the future?? My head doesn’t go there, so I’m stuck.

Ghislaine (sp?) Maxell spotted reading a book at an LA burger place, that book being "The Book of Honor : The Secret Lives and Deaths of CIA Operatives", published in 2001. Naturally, there's an Amazon review published yesterday by a "G. Maxwell" that reads:
5.0 out of 5 stars A comforting read after a personal tragedy
August 15, 2019
Format: Kindle Edition
A good friend of mine died recently under very tragic circumstances. Some of us saw it coming for quite a while but it was still a huge shock when it finally happened. I picked up this book at the advice of a friend and absolutely couldn't put it down. I'd read it walking the dog, getting fast food, or even just lounging around the house. It helped me realized that my friend really believed in something, and that giving your life for the CIA, NSA, FBI, Mossad, or other intelligence agency is truly a higher calling and not something to mourn. A wholehearted recommendation.

Iggy, thanks for the expanded discussion. Obviously on a complex spectrum. I’m focused on the lack of guilt that most seem to hold. Suicide always seems to point to a hidden conscience that acknowledges fault. I really have a hard time believing that Epstein had that ‘flaw’.

hrtshpdbox,
I don't believe she was seen in that burger joint.
I don't believe she read that book, and I don't believe she wrote the review.
It smells like a LARP aka hoax by one of those lefties who get a kick out of getting Trump supporters duped into a wild goose chase.

Miss M, definitely didn't write the review, but there is a photo of her sitting at the In n Out reading a book. Looks like her, could be any time though I suppose.

Note from a pal:
The young lady we helped get settled in school over here (she being the daughter of the Mongolian Princess), ended up in HK after she graduated. I don’t have direct contact with her anymore, but would love to know her observations and pray for her safety.
