Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. His friend calls 911.
'My friend is dead! What should I do?' The operator replies, 'Calm down, sir. I can help. First make sure that he's dead.'
There's a silence, then a loud bang. The hunter says, 'OK, now what?

- In addition to being the one thing that would send Kim's paranoia sky-rocketlng, the timing could not possibly have been worse. There's no way Kim would ever truly trust President Trump enough to negotiate in good faith, if Trump didn't disavow him in a convincing way.--

I hate to disagree with JMH who is so often right, but Kim will never under any circumstances, but one, negotiate in good faith. And that one circumstance is if he thinks he's about to get the Qaddafi treatment.
As much as I love Trump there is nothing down the road he is traveling regarding Kim. So in this matter Bolton is right on the money. Kim is not only a complete psychopath who needs nothing from Trump, he is also a wholly owned subsidiary psychopath of Xi Inc and so will only abandon his masters if he sincerely believes to not do so will result in his annihilation.

henry

Yes Ig. Kim needs to understand that “else” and Trump needs to let Kim keep “face” when capitulating to it. Thus the delay between insult and firing.

Time will tell (maybe).

Sigh.

A high school girl in Alaska was disqualified from a swim meet because her team-issued suit did not adequately cover her rear. The state association has this “coverage” rule, presumably to prevent the girls from being “sexualized”.

Plus, the girl is apparently a very light-skinned black. (Pictures I saw, she looked white to me.)

SJW outrage ensues.

POLICING OF WOMENS BODIES!!
TEACHING WOMEN THEIR BODIES ARE NOT YHEIR OWN!!
HYPERSEXUALIZING WOMEN!! (Even though the rule is there to try and prevent sexualization.)
And of course: MYSOGYNIST!! and RACIST!!

And of course the official merely enforcing the written rule is going to be decertified.

The world is screwed.

My recollection of high school swimming (3 peat state champs featuring the future Admiral Davidson), the girls swim suits left little to the imagination. (As did the boys Speedo’s, but my imagination was gender normal).

hrtshpdbox

tk, I say no; at the time I thought, "Gosh, thanks a lot Bolton". In my opinion no one in the world, including Bolton, knows the full parameters of what's going on between Trump and Kim (so everybody in the world can hold their tongue if they might possibly gum up negotioations). I'd say the chances that Trump wanted Bolton to make the Libya statement are somewhere in the vicinity of zero. So he had to go, though I still think Bolton is a good sort and I wish the firing/resignation had gone more smoothly.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--Was Bolton right to publicly announce that Kim was on the path to The Qaddafi Treatment while Trump was negotiating?--

Not unless he was doing so in coordination with Trump which seems unlikely.
He was however generally right that certain death is the only thing that will motivate Kim and Trump is wrong to try the art of the deal on John Wayne Gacy in a Mao suit.

This is what the forever war feels like, back then we felt powerless but we hoped there would be justice, but heaven and earth has been moved to prevent any accountability, yes ubl has been dead for 8 years, yet it didnt end the conflict. Its beem nearly a dozen years since the saudi group (shorthand) was judged amd pleas rejected. Pulling out of iraq wasnt the answer, maybe doing so in afghanistan wont either, but not much more can be done here.

Jane, not too much left to say IMO.

It happened. America was united for maybe two weeks. We bounced rubble in Afghanistan. Went into Iraq ostensibly to drain that swamp

Eighteen years later we’re never been more divided short of open warfare. Still in Iraq. Swamp maybe partially drained. But Afghanistan is a mini-quagmire.

And we now have anti-American Muslims in the Congress trying to finish the job.

Eighteen years ago, some people did something. And?

Rosenstein needs to be held accountable for the FISA warrant he signed and for his suggestion about wearing a wire and enabling the a Special Council to be convened.
He had his come to Jesus moment with Trump so he does get credit for that.

Narciso79

I have been gone a lot today, but I suppose I should have said more.

It's utter BS, of course, but it is infuriating to me that people who spout this stuff even have the nerve to appear in public.

I don't know how to combat it, so I don't say much.

I am still moved by hearing replays of the news accounts as it happened, and I am still upset by the stories of those who lived through it.

Jane, 9/11 is still raw for me, having been in NYC at the time. I can remember every minute of the day like it was yesterday. Though I worked a couple blocks from the WTC at the time, I happened not to have been downtown that day. I didn't know anyone at the time who perished, but I've subsequently made friends and acquaintances who lost family members.

As others have suggested, the lessons of that day have been lost on something like 50% of Americans. Just 7 years later we elected Obama, and we have the likes of Omar and Tlaib in Congress. It's a sad state of affairs.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

I don't think about it much because they died essentially in vain.
Killing UBL was beside the point and W made a hash of what should have happened.
The 18 years we spent in Afghanistan should have been condensed to 18 weeks until nothing dared raise its head above ground.
Saddam was a contained nothing. Iran was and is THE enemy and it still sits there happy to destabilize the ME and the world. We not only did nothing about them the next jackass made them stronger.
And Islam, which, if we have the slightest honesty at all, is the root of the problem has been turned by W and Barry and Dems and Reps into some sacrosanct "faith" that can't be touched with a barge pole.

Their deaths should have led to a rolling back of Islam worldwide and the destruction of the mullah's regime as Pearl Harbor led to the destruction of Japan and Germany. Instead it has led to 18 years of war to seemingly no purpose and an acceleration of the invasion of Europe.

The dead of 9/11 should be angry at what we did in reaction to their deaths and we should be ashamed that large portions of the ME are not still recovering from the scorched earth we left behind.

henry

Jane, that makes sense to me. My family lived through Pearl Harbor, my friends lived through the Beirut bombing. 9/11 hit friends and family alike, although no casualties in my immediate circle. The distinction for me is the 9/11 required inside treason (Goreick), while the others were enemy action.

Narciso79

Then on top of that, you see the modern equivalent of warren hastimgs in general flynn, he worked with what he was given, he tried to make sense of afghanistan and iraq, to set the signposts of where the pandemic was treated and look how he is treated.

I haven't been feeling well since we went to St Augustine but thought it was just a pulled ab muscle from tossing Ariel around in the pool. It wasn't getting better, so I made an appointment to see an internal med specialist at Emory. Appointment was today. Not good.

My proteins were 100
A1C was 11.8
Glucose was 1000
and my left kidney is tender. It isn't the one that was damaged when the idiot did my surgery back in 2014.

We did have a birthday dinner for my mom last night at an italian place, but I ordered piccata and didn't eat much bread or pasta. I did have a panna cotta and later a snickers when I got home.

I have a CT scan scheduled for Sept 23 and a followup on Sept 25 with the internal med doctor.
Also, a referral to a dietician and an endocrinologist.

I picked up a prescribed glucose meter from the pharmacy today to start testing tomorrow. NO metformin or insulin prescribed til the CT results come back.

Yeah me! She has no idea why everything went suddenly bonkers as I have been doing sporadic Keto and was actually down 16 lbs.

Oh and my BP was elevated with the diastolic at 90 even after taking my meds like normal this am.

How the hell does everything get fucked up in a few week window? Just dayum!

Anyone have any recommendations on Instapots and whether I should get a 3,4 or 6 qt one as I'll mostly be cooking for one? The hubs is going to continue to eat badly and never gain a pound or have BP issues. Asshole.

From the Commentary article above:If the threat posed by vaping is limited to adulterated and unlicensed marijuana products, as the available evidence seems to suggest, a rational response to the problem would be two-fold. First, curb the distribution of those products through tailored legislation and policing—not a blanket assault on the vaping industry. Second, reduce the incentives to engage in the black market by licensing and regulating safe products. Black markets arise as a result of consumer demand. Limiting the public’s access to state or federally regulated vaping products in the name of public safety will not only fail to address the problem but will create more consumers willing to take their business underground. The patchwork of national marijuana laws contributes to this condition. Establishing one national standard for consumer safety would go a long way towards addressing it.

Sadly, these are not rational times. As rates of tobacco use have declined, anti-smoking organizations have transitioned into sowing fears about the unknown long-term effects of vaping products. That is mission creep based on conjecture. It’s also arguably unethical if it leads to a social trend of curtailing the availability of nicotine-replacement therapies that are proven to help people quit smoking. The campaign against vaping is hysteria, and it should end.

joan

Sorry to hear the health news, Stephanie. Hope the doctors get it figured out asap.
