Damn it, we can't nuke hurricanes and now we can't even nuke climate change.
The problem? US electric production is only responsible for about a quarter of US greenhouse gas emissions. Even if we went all-in on nuclear, hydropower and other renewables we'd have a lot of carbon left over in transportation, agriculture, industry, and residential/commercial. Electric heat for buildings and electric cars could shift some of the load but I don't think people will be putting nuclear powered steam generators in Manhattan to heat office buildings. Maybe!
MM, yes, NASCAR is shuffling their schedule. The Daytona race that’s usually Independence Day weekend is being moved to September to make it more relevant to the NASCAR “playoffs”.
(FYI, it was never run Labor Day weekend. The Southern 500 is a NASCAR Labor Day weekend tradition.)

There is nothing wrong with 95 once you get past Richmond.
I'll second JiB's proposal, or stop for the night up in Charlotte, rather than going all the way to Columbia that day--there are great restaurants here, our art museum downtown will help you kill a few afternoon hours if you get here early. We could meet for dinner!

Red Zone is a feature on the NFL Network where they bring you every game that gets into the red zone (inside the defenses 20 yard line) but is usually more if there is a team on a march or upset in play.

So the Patriots get Antonio Brown for short money (short for someone of Brown's talents), and are in a division with a team that could already have decided to go into the Sea World tank for the season? Goodell should investigate Belichick's moves to deflate the Pats' odds to win another Super Bowl! It's AB/Tankgate!

Banning Fracking everywhere probably won’t inspire many voters in western Pennsylvania or in the Scranton area. Two areas a Democrat must inspire voters in order to win. And a Democrat must win Pennsylvania, a Republican does not have to.

You got to feel sorry for a small market team like the Jags who were pre-season favorites to make it to the super bowl with Nick Foles as QB and a top defense. Then in the first game, Foles breaks his clavicle, and you know the rest of the story. Mahomes makes them pay.
It really is surprising how Brady has stayed so healthy. BB understands that you need above all to protect your no. 1 asset and have a threatening running game to keep everyone honest. Why the other coaches think a QB and fast WR's will win has always escaped me.
Posted by: Jack is Back (Again)! | September 08, 2019 at 05:24 PM
anonamom,
Mrs. JiB's family recipe:
Cut up 4 leeks, 2 carrots, 2 shallots, and 1/4 of celery root (not necessary). Melt 3 tsps of butter in a dutch oven. Add the mixture above. Then add 4 cups of fish broth (either homemade or store-bought) and a cup of white wine. Add some thyme, a bay leaf, some threads of saffron. Mix up 3 egg yolks and 1 1/4 cups heavy cream. Add some of the broth to easy it in and then add it to the broth mixture. Let it simmer until ready. A nice fresh baguette goes well with it.
Smaak lekker!
Posted by: Jack is Back (Again)! | September 08, 2019 at 05:33 PM
...Did I forget the fish? Of course i did. Chop up 2 lbs of cod or turbot or Hallock into 1 inch pieces. Add it to the broth before adding the egg/cream mixture. Cook about 10 minutes (poaching) then remove the fish and add the cream mixture. Whisk it all in, then re-add the fish. Cook on low until ready to devour.
