Michael K Atkinson was previously the Senior Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General of the National Security Division of the Department of Justice (DOJ-NSD) in 2016. That makes Atkinson senior legal counsel to John Carlin and Mary McCord who were the former heads of the DOJ-NSD in 2016 when the stop Trump operation was underway.
Atkinson is the Intelligence Community's Inspector General. That, plus the timing, the revision to the procedure for filing such a complaint and the general nature of Atkinson's memo sheds new light on this incident.

Not too many tears being shed, so maybe it's just a case of "De mortuis nil nisi bonum." Plus he ended up kind of pathetic. They lost their big lawsuit, Val dumped him. Not that I felt sorry for him.

Those subpoenas have no more or less force than any other subpoenas sent by a Congressional Committee..Of course if they vote to hold non responders in contempt, it'll be up to Barr to file to enforce that.
IMO thye must now have realized this was amajor error. Their breaking for a while I think and during the break watch how much stuff comes in a counter offensive.

I also think that Barr is smart, able and honest, and the developing of such fraught prosecutions requires a lot of time and care. It's one thing to craft a reasonable indictment of a high and well-defended target in the media and quite another thing to present a strong credible case against him in the courthouse..
When I worked in the DOJ criminal division,, before we filed any case, we had to outline all our evidence and the relevant laws and how we intended to get that evidence into the proceedings. We also had to state what we thought would be the target's defenses and how we believed we could overcome them. Imagine how much more difficult this is in a case involving people like McCabe, Comey, Rice, etc.
Every document, every witness, every act by the target must be debated and proved strong enough before any case is filed.
That would be me late yesterday trying to figure out who could have been privy to the phone call who might take exception to what was said by the President. This meeting between Bolton and Zelenskiy took place one month ago (August 28th) subsequent to the date complaint (August 12th). I don't know that it has any significance. It looks like Bolton was on board with the President's policies re: the region.
I sure would like to know who was/were the anonymous source(s).

so they aren't going to bring any cases. nice to know that there is a two tiered system of justice and with the right affiliations, confederations, and connections you really are above the law.
rich, I'm describing what I consider to be due process of law--something rarely seen of late in the DOJ--You do not bring a case unless you truthfully have examined all the evidence you have been able to obtain thru a diligent search and are persuaded you have a justiciable case. I wouldn't have it any other way. As for a two tier system--it probably always is in the sense that the harder the defendant is able and likely to fight back the stronger your case must be.
That would be very useful, Clarice, there are so many large and small inconsistencies popping up in so many different places that something comprehensive with links would help.
