I’ll ask it since no one else is:

What was Baghdadi doing hiding out right next to the Turkish border? pic.twitter.com/2iUor7PSJw

Trump set up Erdogan. After our troops left, the Turks unwittingly led us to Baghdadi.

He was made into a corpse and carried away, and then we used a MOAB on the Turkish MIT agents meeting with him.

And tonight, Erdogan realizes that Trump effortlessly outsmarted him.

Replies to tweet have aerial photos and explosion photos and comments by mostly intelligent people.

Just for the fun of it, some speculation. Assume Abu Bakr was the target of the raid. Was he captured or did he blow himself up?

If the raid seized intelligence that is actionable I would put out the word that he was dead to buy some time.

Otherwise I assume they are using facial ID and a really quick DNA test.

Secretary Pompeo
Wishing all those celebrating the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil a joyous and prosperous Festival of Lights. Happy Diwali!
Hindu festival of lights, held in the period October to November. It is particularly associated with Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity, and marks the beginning of the fiscal year in India.

Stefan Molyneux
Boy wouldn’t it be a kicker for diversity if the first half-Kenyan President of the United States turned out to be a totally corrupt oligarch who spied on political opponents, totally subverted law-enforcement and ordered his subordinates to break the law?

jim nj

From the SDF General. Curious.

In the Richard Engel tweet MM just posted, a bunch of people (mostly girls) are giving Engel a tongue bath,

Thank you for all you do, be safe, etc.

Screw him.

What about the guys who actually performed the raid?

What is with the journalist worship?

I posted that because of the picture. I should have skipped it since it's NBC and we don't even know if that is an accurate picture.

Engel is a narcissist. I remember years ago him getting caught preening in front of the camera before he was supposed to be on air.

Captain Hate

ISIL, which is what he insisted on calling ISIS

That's his inner Jew hatred. The L stands for Levant, the historic Syria which even in its narrowest interpretation included Israel. You could say that it was just Gaylord pretending to be really really erudite like when he'd refer to Iraq as Mesopotamia like a borderline retard, but that ignores his consistent anti Israel stances. Lurch, another foppish dunce, followed suit.

Kurdish commander: ‘Historic’ Baghdadi op was result of joint intel work with US
Turkey also says it coordinated with American military ahead of Syria operation, which is said to have killed leader of Islamic State terror group

WOW. Everybody wants a piece of the credit.

Did some of them help? Did some of them just stay out of the way?

It seems to suggest that enough nearby sources have confirmed the attack and everybody wants a piece of the action and the credit.

“Success has many fathers, but failure is an orphan.” I want my props, I helped, no I helped, no I helped.

I am glad you did.

I need my dislike for the MFM validated periodically.

What blows me away is the idea that some people actually worship these pukes.

I appreciate the link to Codavilla in The Tablet but don't have the focus to Read The Whole Thing. I know there's good stuff in it but I want the Executive Summary in lieu of thousands of words.

Clarice Delivers.

Absolutely. I was girding my loins to attempt that interview again when I read Clarice's piece. I can now happily close that tab.

Pompeo's tweet about Diwali is a nice touch - "the triumph of light over darkness" indeed.

"Apparently PG&E is owned by CA."

That's my sense too.
Go back a few decades and PGE was perpetually being sued by activists who wanted PGE to be forced to include activist literature in PGE mailers (mostly the monthly bills).
Now, after years of one party rule, PGE is completely under their thumb and just does what it's told.

Last night we went to see Elvis Costello at the historic State Theater in Ithaca, 30 years after we first saw him perform in Albany and our first real date as a couple.

Two things:

The crowd was all gray-haired, and many, MANY, of the men walked up to the stage before the show to check out Elvis's guitars. I thought of JOM immediately.

Almost every performer who comes to this theater at some point steps away from the mic to test the building's accoustics. It's amazing that they can usually fill the room beautifully with little effort. Elvis was no exception, and while he can't hit or carry notes he could in his youth, his voice is still exceptionally strong. It helped that his back up singers were young, gorgeous, and carried those notes for him.

Indeed Jim. Heh.

Dorks as celebrities. The "entertainment" aspect of the unfree press pretty much should obliterate their high self esteem of what they purport to do. Sometimes I'll walk through a room when my wife is watching a national news telecast when they're running some lifestyle crap and I'll say "that's not news" as I leave.

Kevin Corke
#UPDATE per @JenGriffinFNC
#Confirmed with biometric tests. US military source confirms Abu Bakr al Baghdadi is dead.

I guess it was more than forty years ago, but I was once detailed to photograph a Gulfstream meet-up in NJ. There were nearly a hundred of them and the people were real devotees. All of them really nice and they delighted in showing off their mobile homes.

I can see where it might be great fun to explore the US dragging your home with you.

Captain Hate

Now, after years of one party rule, PGE is completely under their thumb and just does what it's told.

Utilities are highly regulated by the state and feds, and as far from a free market entity as you can find. The electric utility I worked for kept at least three sets of accounting books: one for the state commission, one for FERC and one for the shareholders.

Taranto gets to the heart of it as usual, regarding a tweet by Kristol:

James Taranto
I believe this is the first time I've heard a supporter of impeachment openly describe it as a means of effecting a military coup.

Duke Selden

Will Democrats bash Trump when they attend Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s funeral?

"It seems to suggest that enough nearby sources have confirmed the attack and everybody wants a piece of the action and the credit."

ACTUALLY, I think the Syrians helped, and Turkey's assumption that we had abandoned the Syrian's took their, and the victim's eye off the ball. If so, it was a brilliant move.

And our own TM gets into the Kristol fisking (Kristol had fantasized that Mattis and Kelly would each find 10 Senators to support impeachment):

Tom Maguire
Replying to
Uh huh. Because there is not reason at all to think the two groups of ten receptive to impeachment would not overlap.

I understood there would be no math. Or Venn diagrams.

This is a thread full of pertinent information. https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2019/oct/27/abu-bakr-al-baghdadi-islamic-state-leader-trump-syria

Apparently had only been at this location about 48 hours and was tracked through his brothers bringing their wives to the area.

Congratulations to jimmyk and DrJ on that big win last night. I don't know if Harbaugh's job was in jeopardy before that but last night's game must have given him at least temporary breathing room. O$U plays there in a month and it wouldn't be the first time "that state up north" foiled national championship aspirations as an underdog.

They can rest their starters early next week in College Park, although I won't be upset if Top Men get their faces rubbed in another drubbing for not keeping last year's interim head coach, Matt Canada, who did an outstanding job stepping into a difficult situation and keeping a dispirited team together and hiring the dunce Locksley.

Thanks, Cap'n, hard to know if the Wolverines are starting to click, or it was just the crappy weather conditions that made it a fluke win. If they actually beat OSU it would be as big an upset as 1969 (a game I actually had the privilege to attend).

A buddy of mine was at the game also. That was back when the B1G wouldn't let a school go to the Rose Bowl two years in a row and a player, Larry Zelinis (sp?), said "it will be nice sitting home on New Year's Day knowing we're #1". Oops.

And New Thread!

good morning, JOM and thanks!

"Apparently PG&E is owned by CA."

I understand the idea, but PG&E is a bankrupt private entity.

If they have to pay for another fire it will come out of the pockets of its customers.

California is a unique environment with those whipping winds. If PG&E can't clear its right of way of flammable tinder the state should step in to help.

I have to wonder how many court cases PG&E was subjected to about its efforts to take down troublesome trees.

If they don't change the current liability rules over who started a fire, California will be devoid of electricity.

Thanks for today’s excellent Pieces.

Can we hurry up and get to the part of the story where we can watch the bad guys paying off the “connected”? I’ve got a stash of popcorn I want to get at over that angle of the story.

Les Nessman

I'll be the grouchy Debbie downer and say I don't really GAF if yet another mideast Muslim whack-a-mole was offed.

I want traitorous Americans righteously whacked even more. And it's more important to our national security.

And btw I want video of this dead mutt; no burial at sea bullshit.

Good morning JOM
Good morning Clarice. Fantastic Pieces today! You’re like a fine surgeon!

Watching President Trump address the nation on the killing of
Obama’s ISIS leader he states that bag-daddy died like a coward. A Suicide bomb? In a dead end tunnel? Whimpering? Get Brought 3 of his children with him? PDJT States suggested that they should release that portion of the video he saw which may help deter terrorist recruitment?

I keep thinking of the pigs in power in our deep state at home...and How long it will it take today for the Dem Scum like Pelosi Durbin Schumer etc to protest the presidents remarks? Right on time for Meet the Press right? I’m thinking had he surrendered every last Dem would fight tooth & nail to defend that psychopath.

IDK what’s up with Collins but Mitt Romney is a disgrace!

I’d like to see the traitors of this country brought to justice, too.

Mohammed Alaa Ghanem
Video footage shows the aftermath of the purported operation to kill #Baghdadi in #Barisha, #Idlib, #Syria. A burned out car, charred bodies, and torn limbs left at the scene. Also clearly a housing complex that has been reduced to rubble.
(Gruesome video)

Tom R

Has it been established yet whether or not Trump’s decision to withdraw US forces from Syria was a deception to lull ISIS into a false sense of security and expose themselves? I read that the US had been surveilling the ISIS compound for 2 weeks. How comes only for past two weeks and not longer? Perhaps it’s only been for past two weeks because we didn’t know where the ISIS leader was until he dropped his guard?

JM Hanes

As always, I appreciate your skill at clarifying the state of play!

This bit in your Margot Cleveland excerpt stuck an all too familiar note:

[A] team of “high-ranking FBI officials orchestrated an ambush-interview of the new president’s National Security Advisor, not for the purpose of discovering any evidence of criminal activity -- they already had tapes of all the relevant conversations about which they questioned Mr. Flynn -- but for the purpose of trapping him into making statements they could allege as false.

Same ol' same ol' right down to the hinky 302s. If Barr manages to conclude his current investigation, I hope he'll undertake a massive overhaul of DoJ policy.

I also hope the Andrew McCabe isn't the only one scared off his feed before the coming election. I'd like to see a bunch of folks twiddling their thumbs in jail, not out on the street wreaking electoral havoc, but that may be too much to wish for, or too tricky to tackle politically.

JM Hanes

New, of course, just because.
