GUS

Wisconsin had a hard time with Michigan State.

38-0

Wisconsin has given up 31 points in 6 games this season.
They have given up 4 touchdowns.
Their defense has scored 4 touchdowns.
They've had 4 shut outs already.

Jimmyk, completely agree. But Microsoft, Apple, IBM, and pick yer Linux force new function every 3-6 months. The cyber security part pushes us forward. I have a half dozen non internet PCs running the good stuff (Dos 3.3, CPM, OS/2 etc), but for work people only buy the new tangled stuff (then never upgrade... or so it seems).

ERP manufacturing is the primary. But have HRIS and CRM as well (yay data privacy laws /sarc).

JMH: My point was that the rights listed in the article are ones that come into play during a Senate trial, not a House impeachment.

While that may be, a misuse of separation of powers, a misapplication of how the House operates, is Checkmate without arguing rights.

The point of “due process” is that it is the basis of our entire legal system. If they can give it up for Trump, every one of us is at risk.

Very concise and to the point. Pelosi, Schiff and the rest of the unserious people put in high positions (honestly Hank Johnson is an embarrassment by any standard), are playing fast and loose with the Constitution and need to be told forcefully that is unacceptable.

henry

Rich, the Cardinals were whining about a dead ball before the game. So Nats took the gift. No apologies necessary. Whiners don’t win. (Yes, Yankees whine with the best of the whiners).

Jane

This is the 3rd speech I’ve heard Trump give this week. Lots of duplications, which is understandable , but it makes it long and boring. Not typical.

Jane,
You asked about a generator system for your house or condo.
Finally talked to my friend today and his was surprisingly cheap.
They ordered a 16kw system directly from the Generac factory which saved them $1500 or so. Generator and switch was about $4,000 and it cost them less than a thousand for the install.
They have a typical 3-2 house of probably around 1800 square feet. System powers the whole house and they're into it for around $5,000 total. That's a pretty good deal, IMO.

Narciso

I admit im not that familiar with that particular selection

rich

not looking good for the gators though ...

Narciso

Captain Hate

wow, that is a beast.

It's very smooth with almost no alc burn. I picked it up at Harpoon brewery in Vermont but I think it's widely available where you are. Being a big stout I was holding out until the weather got cooler which definitely describes today. I've got a lot of things in my cellar fridge which are attaining their primo aging range so it will be a nice Fall, Winter and Spring.

Jane

Thanks Iggy. I’ll try and save that info.

Please. There's no suffering like expecting mediocrity from the Maryland football team and being kicked in the teeth every fucking time.

sbwaters

it cost them less than a thousand for the install.

Hi, Jane. But have someone who knows the local codes do the generator install. For instance, Ours needed to be at least four feet from the house.

Waldstein arguably is my favorite Beethoven Sonata. Do listen to it in whole, and listen to Gilels.

Gosh, jimnj, that news about our solar system's edges going into higher pressure--just fascinating and mind-blowing--is not the universe the same everywhere? perhaps not--and then what does THAT mean? all bets are off.

As of just now, as far as the Secretary of State of Louisiana is concerned, with 1% in, the combined Republican vote is 57% with 42% for Edwards. Here you can track things for yourselves: https://voterportal.sos.la.gov/Graphical

Dr.J--it's a joke with my husband and me that I am always asking him to program the Egmont Overture (which he's already done two or three times). It's close to my asking for him to add more "poot poot" in the bassoons to his orchestral works.

Catsmeat

And if you look at Louisiana, look at the downrace numbers for Republicans--they seem fed up and loaded for bear.

Another Bob

Catsmeat, is that good news that two republican candidates are splitting the vote?

Narciso

Its a fascinating thing, and i think it poses a problem if you try to leave the system at a fraction of light.

That confrontation between your colleague catsmeat and georgia southern student body didnt do anyone any good.

Catsmeat

No, because the winner has to have more than 50%--it's no problem that there is a split vote--the more the merrier--which is why Trump last night said vote for either. If no one gets 51% it goes to a playoff between the top two vote getters, which will probably mean a Republican win.

Catsmeat

In November, I should have said.

Another Bob

Didn’t mean to overlook Live Wire Landry, the third republican who has 1%.

Another Bob

Thank you, ma’am. Didn’t realize that was a runoff situation.

DrJ

Catsmeat,

Egmont is fine, particularly if it is an inside joke. I'm partial to the Piano Sonatas, but that's just me.

Orchestral? Beethoven Symphony #3, or Brahms #4. Mendelssohn Hebrides is fine too, as is Smetana. And many others (Sibelius?).

I was teaching a segment on the Byronic hero, Dr. J, just last week, and capped it off with Bernstein's Beethoven's Eroica, 2nd movement, with the Berlin Phil, asking them as I played it (up through the fugue) if they could find how the conductor was being a Byronic hero. Lo and behold, they could! I explained to them that this orchestra with this piece did not in fact need any particular conducting--most, if not all, the histrionics are for the audience. Thus is it so! (married to a very good conductor, I am).

DrJ

Ok, so here is the final movement of Sibelius Symphony #2:

Catsmeat,

In spite of the rumors notwithstanding, I am thrilled with the next generation. My experience uniformly has been good.

Catsmeat

Yep, narciso, that's the one. They couldn't help but notice the hair-tossing and the orgasmic pangs (all perfectly reasonable given the music, I'd say). All in all, Bernstein acts like a man in the most exquisite anguish, as of course did Shelley and Byron and many lesser figures of their day (exquisite anguish was in fashion--thank heavens it isn't at the moment--we have enough absurdities to deal with).

Catsmeat

Nytol--DrJ and narc as always a pleasure.

An old preacher was dying. He sent a message for his banker and his lawyer, both church members, to come to his home.
When they arrived, they were ushered up to his bedroom. As they entered the room, the preacher held out his hands and motioned for them to sit on each side of the bed.
The preacher grasped their hands, sighed contentedly, smiled, and stared at the ceiling. For a time, no one said anything.
Both the banker and lawyer were touched and flattered that the preacher would ask them to be with him during his final moments.
They were also puzzled, the preacher had never given them any indication that he particularly liked either of them. They both remembered his many long, uncomfortable sermons about greed, covetousness, and avaricious behaviour that made them squirm in their seats.
Finally, the banker said: "Preacher, why did you ask us to come?"

The old preacher mustered up his strength and then weakly said: "Jesus died between two thieves, and that's how I want to go."

I'd like to revise and extend my remarks on portable generators. Last night I was addressing the situation in California where prolonged outages are expected and may last for a period of years. A portable generator isn't really up to that task.

What portable generators are very good at is unexpected outages usually due to weather events. Running a sump pump or trying to keep your food from spoiling by running some cables to a portable genset is very useful.

And to prolong your available fuel, assuming you now can't get more, you don't have to run the genset non-stop, just often enough to keep the food from going bad.

Someone's been pullin yer leg jim.
The outages like the one we just had are just like short term weather events and in fact are in reaction to short term weather events. In Northern CA it would be hard to imagine one of these shut downs lasting more than a week, and even that is far longer than probable. Inland Northern CA is one of the least windy places on the planet so Red Flag conditions for us are relatively rare compared to SoCal where the Santa Anas this time of year are more persistent and predictable.

From WSJ report on Calif. utilities:

"Such outages are unlikely to end soon because utilities are liable under California law for wildfire damage caused by their equipment, even if they aren’t negligent. That makes fires a serious threat to drive the companies into insolvency."
