Ah dear old "Reporting for Duty" Jean Fraud Kerry--the fellow with the unbelievably small brain. But he had his parts as a gigolo.

Why should Trump defend Obama’s red line in the sand when Obama didn’t bother to defend it?

Threadkiller

The Normandy quote from Trump:

Now, the Kurds are fighting for their land, just so you understand. They're fighting for their land. And, as somebody wrote in a very, very powerful article today, they didn’t help us in the Second World War. They didn’t help us with Normandy, as an example. They mentioned names of different battles. They were there, but they're there to help us with their land. And that’s a different thing.

In addition to that, we have spent tremendous amounts of money on helping the Kurds -- in terms of ammunition, in terms of weapons, in terms of money, in terms of pay. With all of that being said, we like the Kurds.

Now you have different factions in there. Again, you have PKK -- that’s a different faction. And they worked with us. It's a rough group, but they worked with us. But we've spent a tremendous -- and they're fighting for their lands. So when you say, "They're fighting with us" -- yes, but they're fighting for their land.

The article Trump read:

The Kurds helped destroy ISIS, true. It’s also true that the Kurds would have fought ISIS anyway, since the psycho caliphate was right next door. Let’s be honest – the Kurds didn’t show up for us at Normandy or Inchon or Khe Sanh or Kandahar. The Syrian Kurds allied with us in their homeland because we shared a common interest in wiping out the head-lopping freak show that was ISIS. Moreover, all Kurds are not equal. The PKK – the Kurdistan Workers' Party – are a bunch of commie terrorists who have been fighting the Turks for a long time. Those reds are no friends of ours, and it’s their antics that seem to be inspiring the Turkish campaign. I have little use for the Turks, but they aren’t just picking this fight for Schiffs and giggles. The fact that it’s all so confusing is a really, really good reason for us to stay the hell out of it.

Moreover, we keep hearing about our “obligation” to the Kurds, but who is the genius who promised the Kurds that if Turkey attacked the United States would go to war? Would that promise be binding on us if it were? After all, I don’t recall my senators voting on a treaty – after debate and with accountability to us voters – agreeing to put American lives on the line to protect the sovereignty of hypothetical Kurdistan. This idea that some sort of obligation for America to defend another people can arise outside the treaty ratification process is as bizarre as it is unconstitutional. Now we’re supposed to shed our blood because our elites feel we owe it to foreign strangers?

I think I'll sleep like a baby when it comes to this controversy.

Narciso

Well we struck syria twice, decimated prigizhins proxy in eastern syria supplied heavy weapons to the ukrainians, everything obama didnt do.

James D.

I think I'll sleep like a baby when it comes to this controversy.

I will, too, TK. Because it shouldn't BE a controversey. It's just the Dems and MSM and the usual Deep State clowns getting all worked up AGAIN, talking out of their asses AGAIN, lying to us AGAIN, and not saying a word about their own years and years of failure and incompetence that left us with the crappy options the President now has to deal with.

James D.

I LOVE this from the Schlichter article, and it ought to be printed out and stapled to the forehead of every single Senator, Representative, and MSM talking head who's blathering on about the Kurds:

but who is the genius who promised the Kurds that if Turkey attacked the United States would go to war? Would that promise be binding on us if it were? After all, I don’t recall my senators voting on a treaty – after debate and with accountability to us voters – agreeing to put American lives on the line to protect the sovereignty of hypothetical Kurdistan. sbwaters,

You are welcome. I like videos because I can get some work done while listening to them, which is a bit different than your situation.

This whole thing about Syria and the Kurds is another wedge issue the Never Trumpers and the Democrats are bringing up to get everyone all upset at the President. I am not biting, just like I refused to bite with the ribald comment that NBC released during the campaign.

If you asked most military people, at least the enlisted types, I am pretty certain they would agree with Schlichter.

Narciso

Weve been through three cycles of expeditionary forces, the first was latin america from 1898-1933, the second was east asia from 1942-1975, and the middle east roughly 1990-201?, we developed proxies of varying durability through the first two cycles. This is not the natural way of things

Mrs. sbw and I visited Lenox, MA for a few days to visit our favorite bar, Brava. She’s easing her way into retirement and pulling me along.

Visiting a bookstore down the street I confessed to the owner, Matt, that I had never read Edith Wharton because summaries of her work sparked no interest. Wharton’s summer home of the 1920s-30s, The Mount, is in Lenox.

He immediately rummaged around for "Roman Fever", a series of short stories with an excellent introduction. he said that was the best way to become engaged.

He was right. Writing of the Gilded Age, Wharton was a master of wordsmithing, offering great exposition of character, and excruciating honesty. "Roman Fever was the first short story. Ruthless. Brilliant.

An author worth her salt has to recognize what one is thinking, grasp it firmly, and wrestle it to the page.

I have underlined and folded corners of apt descriptions one could use to describe what passes for intellect today. Her second short story skewers self-proclaimed intelligentia for presuming a useless quest for self-validation substitutes for honesty.

Mrs. sbw bought Wharton’s "Age of Innocence” and is enjoying that. These and other Wharton books will fortify us as we laze on the Singer Island beach in a few weeks with her BIL’s family.

I think Trump, through his performance, should have earned at least some amount of trust from most people who are generally Republican but who felt uneasy about him. And, indeed, he's got about 90% approval from Republicans (and 40% of independents). TM seems not to be among this group, which makes sense if you look at his backing of a very, very liberal big-gubmint idea to grab citizen assets via an unrealized gain tax.

Why does this seem like a red carpet of investigative leads for the House.......Is there no skepticism left in DC?

matt - deplore me if you must

I haven't seen any reports that are from primary sources, only interpretations. What do we know as fact in Syria?

All of the parties involved are propagandists; the PPK, the Turks, the Syrians, the Russians and even the Americans. Footage of Turkish airstrikes, bombardments, or of valiant Kurdish fighters might lend some depth to the discussion.

A shame that Michael Yon is in Hong Kong in this case, as the political bullshit is shoulder deep. Do any of these people truly know what is going on?

As to Joey Plugz, it would seem that the evidence against he and his kin is building while that against Trump is being called ever more into question. How do we, as a society of laws, even allow hidden accusers to have standing in legal procedures so serious? This is very Dzerzhinskian.

I really do hope that the IG report comes out soon. But then, the Left has already laid the groundwork to discredit it.

James D.

I haven't seen any reports that are from primary sources, only interpretations.

This is why I can't get worked up over the Kurd situation.

We already know that, bias and dishonesty aside, most MSM reporters and editors know basically nothing about current events, and even less about history, military affairs or anything else (no less an authority than Obama advisor - and brother to the prez of CBS News - Ben Rhodes told us so, and the NYT nodded in agreement by printing it without rebuttal).

So why on Earth should we believe the ranting and railing and horror stories being sold to us by people who, even when they aren't actively lying, wouldn't know the truth if it bit them in the ass?
