Thank you, Gus. I know how you love this country, and your support for the President has always been strong. The people at JOM give me hope, and i thank you!

GUS

Jim Nj. As I've said for a long time, liberals lie and/or are dishonest every word that they speak.
GREASY GUIDO CUOMO, brother of FREDO, son of MARIO the FIRST, runs his GOOFY MOUTH, about good riddance to DJT, changing his PERSONAL and BUSINESS tax status to FLORIDA......for obvious reasons.
GREASY GUIDO CUOMO, pretends not to care. All GREASY all the time.
Rush Limbaugh and a thousand other MULTI MULTI MILLIONAIRES and/or/Billionaires, leaving NEW YORK, because of MORONIC FAILURE LIBTARD TAX POLICIES, is CHAMPIONED by the FUCKING GOVERNOR???
If DJT and his BUSINESSES, FORTUNE and his successful wealthy kids and family LEAVING NEW YORK, because NEW YORK raped their INCOME, is JUST FINE, with MARIO GREASY CUOMO JUNIOR.
What the FUCK is wrong with GREASY JUNIOR????

Answer: No fear of consequences. Little GREASY MARIO JR. will be RICH until he dies.

HOW DID THE GREASY CUOMO'S make their FORTUNE????
HOW DID THE GREASY CUOMO'S make their FORTUNE????

Iran has managed to prop up the Iraqi PM, but split the Shia forces in the process.

"In response, Sadr said publicly that without a resignation there would be more bloodshed and that he would not work with Amiri again.

“I will never enter into alliances with you after today,” he said in a statement." Referring to "Hadi al-Amiri, whose alliance of Iran-backed militias is the second-biggest political force in parliament, to help push out Abdul Mahdi."

Sounds like things are about to get worse, before they get worser...

Iran can strike Saudi Arabia and neither the Sauds nor we need to take the bait and retaliate directly.

We, and others, can create mayhem in the Shia communities in Iraq and Lebanon.

Oh, and BTW, Iraq wants all US forces withdrawn from Syria to Iraqi Kurdistan to leave the country. Maybe that's just posturing.

GUS

Barbara, NO, thank you. I don't see you often, BUT, I love your passion, your patriotism, and your resolve.
Both of my parents are buried at ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY. I was there, and read a GOSPEL READING as my Mom, was interred in 2011. I am the son of a AMERICAN DAD, who passed on, when I was not quite one year old. Mom, a SCOTTISH national, took her 3 kids, me being the youngest of 3, back to the UK.
Mom ended up marrying another YANK, and I got a DAD, and even better, I got 2 younger brothers.
I LOVE THIS COUNTRY. My son is an EAGLE SCOUT, a COLLEGE FRESHMAN and ENGINEERING Freshman entry.
Thanks for your goodness Barbara,

Barbara

You're a great guy, Gus! As Clarice would say, "Smooches."

GUS

Jim nj. Iran's internal politics equals choosing Jefferey Dahmer vs Ted Bundy.
Our choices have been scuttled and have been hand wringing jokes. I don't disagree with your take on IRAN in IRAQ, nor the SAUDI'S being vulnerable.
The QUESTION has existed for YEARS and YEARS.
Who do WE side with? AND......Will we EVER be ......ALL IN....for the side we POLITICALLY choose.

In todays financial and AMERICAN brokered rewards,
Do we NEED to protect SAUDI????
If so WHY?
If we fear IRAN and a SECTARIAN war IRAN v SAUDI.

What has SAUDI pledged US??

GUS

That is very flattering Barbara. Clarice is a wonderful lady to be a "reference" for me.
Clarice and I are friends, and Clarice is from my own beloved MILWAUKEE. This blog has created many kismet moments, and many friendships. Clarice is dear to me. I'd list the lifelong friendships and meet ups, that I've been part of, but I fear, that I might forget or leave out someone.
God bless you Barbara, you are on my list!!!

MJW

Something worth mentioning -- and it probably has been mentioned, since it's so obvious -- is that if the presidential candidate the so-called whistleblower was associated is Biden, the IG lied by omission. If the candidate was, say, Elizabeth Warren, then saying the WB had an association with a current Democratic presidential candidate, reveals what the IG seems to reveal: that the WB may be biased towards Democrats and thus against Republicans. If the candidate was Biden, it says something entirely different, because Biden isn't merely a "Democratic presidential candidate"; he's a principle figure in the Ukrainian controversy.

GUS

MJW, it's much more simple and obvious.
THERE IS NOT, NOR HAS THERE EVER BEEN A WHISTLE BLOWER.
FULL COMMIE LIBTARDS, and the MEDIA, redefine words and messages.
The MAIN STREAM MEDIA.......CANNOT BE THIS STUPID nor IGNORANT, by accident nor happenstance.
The UKRAINE CONVERSATION, was innocuous at MOST. The TRANSCRIPT of the CALL has long ago been RELEASED. I'm not even COOL with that. When the U.S. PRESIDENT has a CLASSIFIED (all of his calls are classified) conversation, this PRESIDENTIAL CONVERSATION is not SUBJECT to PLANTED or DISGRUNTLED employees.....INTERPRETATION.

It's that simple.

Jane

Wow Capt, thanks for posting that. There must have been some sort of decision in the schools not to talk about that, because IIRC we certainly talked about the Salem witch trials. Not one hint of that past in town either.

jim nj

Gus,

I just try to game out some of the moves in the ME.

Iran isn't inherently bad. Under the Shah it was a close ally. So I don't see the people of Iran as opposed against us, just the theocratic government and the IRGC and its ilk.

I think the Iranians would like to be free to select a new government. I don't think we can do that for them with some kind of kinetic attack right now. They are going to have to do that for themselves. Any direct move in Iran by US forces would probably backfire.

The weak link right now are the Iranian proxy forces. Iran doesn't have the vast amount of money to support them as Iran used to do.

I think we and many others in the ME see this as an opportunity to degrade the proxies.

I think the large populations of young people in Iraq and Lebanon are tired of the sectarianism. They want jobs. An end to corruption and are tired of being manipulated by outside forces. They will continue to protest.

Recently, Iraqi "protestors" blew up an Iranian ammo dump in Iraq. That's the kind of thing I'd like to see happen more often.

I don't know if I believe Thomas Wictor's assessment of the capabilities of GCC forces, but if they are capable of large-scale covert missions that is what I would like to see more of.

We don't need our troops in the middle of something if we can accomplish our goals in a more clandestine fashion.

hoyden

Advice from Ann Althouse for folks who might need it...
Trump is hilarious, but the people who hate him are totally cut off from the fun.

I'm just saying I feel a little sorry for the people who are missing out on Trump's hilarity. And it's not just that they aren't getting some great and unusual laughs. It's that they're undermining their own capacity to understand the very strange person who is our President. Even if you want to keep hating him, you should try to understand him. Don't dumb yourself down. You won't fight too well if you don't know your enemy.
Jane

Jim,

Iran is living hell compared to Under the Shah. Back then it was the Paris of the ME.

I have a good friend who escaped but the rest of her family is still there. They owned the logging industry (there are no trees in Iran) so it was imports. They had to give the Shah 50% of everything they made but did very well.

Everything was taken away and their fashionable and fantastic life was replaced by Burkhas and oppression. Continuing til today.

Measles Wipes Your Immune System's 'Memory,' So It Can't Fight Other Infections

Absolutely amazing research result. You should read this. If the research is correct it means that a Measles vaccine administration is imperative for children.

DrJ, anonamom, anybody care to comment on this? Is this for real?

jim nj

Jane,

That's my understanding too. The Shah was no paragon of virtue and he had rather vicious security forces, but the average Persian led a much better life than they do now.

GUS

Jim nj, I appreciate your thoughtful reasoning.
I am far less of a hawk, as I once was. And going back to my highschool and college days, I was a Democrat....BELIEVE IT....or NOT!!
My most BELOVED Brother of the 3 that I have, is a former USAF SPEC OPS .....SPECIAL FORCES grad. As a UNIVERSITY GRAD, he was turned down for an ARMY FLYING gig,BY THE ARMY... and turned SHYTE, into a life long victory and career. He went to OFFICER SCHOOL....after 2 years in USAF SPEC OPS. He completed the OTS program at MAXWELL in ALABAMA, and went on to FLY for 1O years. He had a great career, and was USAF OFFICER of the YEAR, 2 years in a row, for EUROPE. Obviously, I am proud of him. His daughter, My Niece and my God daughter, is a JUNIOR, 3rd year...at the UNITED STATES AIR FORCE ACADEMY, in COLORADO SPRINGS CO.
My brother, my beloved little brother, is STATE DEPT DIPLOMATIC SECURITY, and he has been STATIONED overseas for numerous years and duties.
He is currently living in D.C....Anandale Va.
I love and respect my little bro, more than I could say. HOWEVER. Since College, my FANTASTIC, successful and accomplished little brother, has worked for the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.
His limited time in AMERICA, has mostly been D.C.

I've seen some changes in his thought processes.
He RELATES more to the SWAMP, and the STATUS QUO, than he does to those of US, who generally seek a DRAINING of the SWAMP.

jim nj

I read the Althouse piece that Hoyden posted and it rang a bell for me.

I've been with my girlfriend for about 8 years now and the best times we have is when we're making fun of each other.

GUS

Hi Jane!!! I hope you are WARM and well.
5 inches of snow today, a couple inches Monday.
I've chosen to live in Wisconsin, BUT, if I am to DIE of OCASIO-CORRRRRRRTEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYZZZZZ....GLOBAL WARMING......
at least it could be WARM.
It is not for ME, to JUDGE, the SHAH. His country and it's people, are responsible for being FREE, for being VICTIMS, or agreeing to be subjects to a Monarchy.
I have learned, that supporting a "REGIME" is so completely RELATIVE.
Relative to our countries, wants needs and POLICIES, at any given time.
Be well Jane, I hope to see you this fall or winter in FLA.

jim nj

Gus,

I tend to be a hawk, but I never served, and I don't like American casualties, so I'm evolving.

I'm too old to fight now, it really is a young man's or woman's game.

I am some times fiercely reactionary, but when I spend more time thinking about things I start to see that deniable covert actions might be vastly better than overt ones.

Much as I'd like to go toe-to-toe with Iran with a large force I think the better strategy is to isolate them. Economically and with a covert strategy to take out or degrade their proxy forces.

Many people ignore the fact that we have been, or rather they have been, waging war against us since the Iranian Revolution in 1987 and the seizure of American hostages.

Our goal should be the end of the theocratic regime in Iran. We don't need to attack it directly right now. Their proxies are vulnerable. Time to reduce them.

Then let our ME allies create and arm proxy forces in Iran. Let them fight for their own freedom.

hoyden

Commenter to Ann's post,

As Stalin said, humor is like food: not everybody gets it.
Jane

Hoyden,

I don't think Trump is the least bit strange. Do you? I'm sure this sounds weird and arrogant, but I identify with him on a few levels, particularly his negotiating style. It's the whole "you catch more flies with honey" approach, rare, but very effective. First president I ever wanted to sit down and have a few laughs with.

jim nj

GUS

Jane, I am coming down to visit you!! I have that OLD TICKET. You had better WELCOME ME!!!
You are the best JANE.

hoyden

Jane, I don't think Trump is strange. I can't relate to his public style but that doesn't stop me from totally appreciating his Presidency. I could not do what he is doing.

anonamom

Catching up; jim sunnyvale last night:

Instead of CWII, perhaps we'll sort ourselves and divide into two countries.
Peacefully.

I read that and thought: yes, that be us.
We don't want them dead---just to leave us alone.
Here, take New York; take coastal California, Washington state, Oregon; take our most historic east coast cities. Just LEAVE!

Like a divorce, when someone realizes they've married a psychotic or sociopath---no point in fighting with crazy, you can have the house and car and 2/3rds of my retirement funds--JUST SIGN THIS and LEAVE.

I've seen it way more than once.

GUS

Jim Nj. I did not serve either. My Dad's generation, did not get that option. I have bad eyes, and I was a sickly kid. I beat the SHIT OUT OF LIFE, and played 4 sports in H.S. and 2 VARSITY SPORTS in College. The MILITARY would not have taken me. Because I did not serve, does not mean, that I cannot voice my opinion. My Father is buried at Arlington, my brother is a decorate former USAF PILOT, my NEPHEW is a PURPLE HEART from IRAQ USMC, it goes on and on and on.
I love this NATION. To love AMERICA, does not REQUIRE me to have served. BUT THEN AGAIN, I LOVE and ADMIRE those who have. Whenever and HOWEVER they served.

hoyden

I believe America's wealth is created and facilitated by Americans living in a society built on the principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. How many other countries can claim that?

Unrestrained government devours wealth.

Jane

Hayden,

I don’t identify with his public style, except when it comes to to getting what he wants.

Gus you are always welcomed. Stephanie is coming for dinner, so feel free to stop by.

Jane

Hey Amom, what a nice early morning surprise!

anonamom

jimnj, I know nothing about that study about the measles wiping out immunity--but I do know that at least four of the five of us siblings,as well my 20-some cousins, (like all children of the 50s and early 60s), had multiple types of measles (German, five day, hard) and none of us have had any issues with persistent immune deficiency.
One cousin was "sickly " though--lots of bronchitis type stuff--maybe that is why.

It appears they have found why some kids do get the pneumonias that are what kills them w the measles.
And if that is your kid, it doesn't matter if it's only 1:10, 000 or something, does it??? It was 100% at your house.

I won't argue against vaccinating for measles.

jim nj

Thank you, anon, I had the measles as a kid also and don't remember any side-effects.

If I remember correctly, before the vaccine, parents would intentionally expose children to other children with the measles just to get it over with and build an immunity so they didn't get it as an adult. Which I think was worse.

The idea that you can build an immunity to a specific disease by catching it and yet have it re-code the rest of your immune system is novel, to say the least.

That's why I asked. It's like suggesting that you could clean out malware on your computer permanently once exposed to it, but that the encounter would render the malware cleaner less effective against other known attacks.

Very Strange.

jim nj

But, yes, vaccinate against Measles, whether it's true or not. If the former you induce immunity and don't suffer from the weird, if possibly true side-effects.

henry

18 degrees this morning. I’m not used to it yet.

That’s pretty good Ig. Hadn’t thought about it that way. Concur.

I also think there’s an element of ego involved. Many who consider themselves “fine, upstanding”, non-extremist types, with their noses in the air don’t want to be associated with Trump regardless of the results he produces. Because it makes them think less of themselves. This is one of the root causes of this mindless Nevertrumpism, and why it’s so hard to combat.

I also think there’s an element of ego involved. Many who consider themselves “fine, upstanding”, non-extremist types, with their noses in the air don’t want to be associated with Trump regardless of the results he produces. Because it makes them think less of themselves

There’s a huge element of willful blindness to that, too.

It’s not like other “mainstream” and “classier” politicians don’t do and say the same things Trump does. It’s that they hire underlings and operatives to do and say them, and pretend to be above the fray.

For example, Obama didn’t tweet about Jim Ryan’s sealed divorce records in 2002, because the campaign workers he paid dug them up and passed them on to friendly media outlets who gleefully ran with them.

From Where I sit, whether you personally say/do it, or you pay someone to do it at one or two removes, its moral the same. Apparently a lot of people (like TM) don’t view it that way.

The only way we can solve the problem of politicians taking too much power is by voting in politicians who fight that (e.g. Trump). Sending a cadre off to [grab more power] amend the Constitution makes no sense if we do not first elect politicians we can trust.

CH has a point: why not try Article V? It’s like trying marriage counseling. If it’s a disaster, divorce is still an option. Look at Roberts’ Obamacare decision. He ignored the plain la fudge of the law and of the Constitution, and ruled that the law actually said the opposite of what it actually did.

What Amendment could be written that would be proof against that sort of judicial “reasoning” ?

I also think there’s an element of ego involved. Many who consider themselves “fine, upstanding”, non-extremist types, with their noses in the air don’t want to be associated with Trump regardless of the results he produces. Because it makes them think less of themselves

I fully agree with this.

I don't think Trump is uncouth. His demeanor in formal settings is exactly what it should be.

A lot of people place far too much emphasis on what they perceive as the decorative elements of the presidency and don't much mind what transpires beyond that.

Trump is interested in results. Thank God.

Surber makes a point I agree with:

The Washington Post today alleged, "Trump without the Trumpiness would win reelection in a landslide."

By Trumpiness, the Post means three years of lies, slander and libel against Donald Trump.

Jane, I think the executions themselves happened in Salem, but most of the accused were from Andover and some of the trials were conducted there. The town is probably happy to let Salem take all the credit.

FULL COMMIES do not respect laws, nor ELECTIONS.

How will a article V convention change that?
