The FBI Spied for LBJ’s Campaign - WSJ

By Lee Edwards
May 24, 2018 6:41 pm ET

Is it unthinkable that the Federal Bureau of Investigation would spy on a presidential campaign for political purposes? I can personally attest that it has happened before—during Barry Goldwater’s 1964 campaign.

Like a gator with a hyperactive tail, remember how the whole khashoggi move was a cover to a) try to depose prince salman (mitt lindsey i think flake were all on board) but b) allow qatar to buy into turkeys arms establishment.

Silva actually figured out who the first part would go, and soeculated on who woulf be left with the whold deck of cards.

When everybody in the media and politics tells you they understand exactly whats going on, look in the other direction.

I never used the TrackPoint, and didn't like the Lenovo touchpad. I just hooked it up to a keyboard/mouse/monitor via a docking station. But whatever we get used to with computers it's hard to change.

Lately if I'm saving a doc or picture, my involuntarily updated windows 10 tries to default it to one drive.

Yes, that, but the worst was when I first 'synced' up to OneDrive, it created duplicate files of everything on my local drive. Like if I had a file named JOM.doc on my local it created a second one called JOM.doc - copy. I had to delete them all, thousands of files.

MJW

And there's more! Whistleblower wrote memo after learning of Ukraine call, saying WH official called it 'crazy,' 'frightening'

"I think it's crazy to withhold security assistance to help with a political campaign."

Coincidence?

Narciso

Hey mjw, i had the commodores song, that illuminated that point.

You know whats crazy, is to deprive ukraine of anything but hand pistols against the russian army, for three years.

In recent retrospect, it is MOAR than CLEAR, that the ENTIRE 7TH floor apparatus of the FBI, was DIRTY AS A MOTHERFUCKER.

I hated the touchpad when I first used in, but I got used to it and now I prefer it over reaching for the mouse. I'm not even sure where I put my cordless mouse.

https://www.military.com/daily-news/2019/10/04/us-turkey-conduct-new-joint-patrol-northeast-syria.html

Four days ago a report on joint patrols in northeast Syria.

One day later a threat from Turkey of a unilateral attack into northeast Syria.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/10/05/turkey-threatens-solo-army-operation-northeast-syria/

One day later Trump says fine go ahead. And goes public with a statement to let the whole world know what's going on.

One day later Trump let's every one know he didn't and doesn't approve of Turkey's plans.

US politicians, the UN and who knows how many countries weigh in or reassess their positions.

What's going on behind the scenes now? How do the most immediate players react - Syria, Russia, et al.?

Do Syria and Russia want another Turkish controlled enclave in Syria? SDF/YPG are already said to be 9 miles off the border. I assume that means that only Turkish and US forces are on the border.

If Turkey does plan on a unilateral attack I have no problem with our troops be moved out of harm's way, but I think a lot more is going on than we currently see.

A La the report that the US has stopped sharing intel with Turkey. Are we still sharing intel with the SDF/YPG?

Manuel Transmission

I paid about $4K for my first laptop around 1985. It was a Toshiba with an orange plasma screen and a 10MB hard drive and AC only. I think the HD was actually a bunch of floppies inside based on the noise and speed.

After that, it was the best whatever about every two years. I switched to a Mac when we sold out in ‘04. A 2nd one in ‘10 that still works fine in the shop and now a yr old MBP15. The last two have Win7 running in Fusion for my two CAD pgms. Sadly, I’m not sure I can ever upgrade from here. The next OSX with not run any of my Adobe stuff (Pshop, etc) and I will never upgrade that stuff and get locked into any subscriptions.

A whole lot of too clever by half going on.

Narciso

Probably, but one has to a fellow whose linking a,turkish news site to get the facts

Narciso

They read the press release and then go no further.

jim nj

I'm seeing a lot of mistakes in reporting on the northeast Syria situation.

US troops haven't left Syria, just the border area.

We haven't betrayed the Kurds, yet.

Everybody is suddenly concerned about the ISIS detainees in the hands of the kurds and whether they will escape if Turkey invades.

Newsweek is quoting an NSC official, who was supposedly on the call, as saying that Trump "got rolled." Is that the same one that listened to the Zelensky call? No wonder they want to cut the size of the NSC down.

My NJ driver's license isn't compliant because NJ has been dragging its feet in implementing this, like a lot of other states.

I think the illegal alien lobby has something to do with this.

Think about that. You won't be able to fly on a plane without a Real ID, but you can vote without one.

Kind of ruins the voter ID argument regarding elections.

jim nj

Almost all of the reporting on Syria has been too facile and devoid of useful analysis. This is a little more interesting:

https://securitystudies.org/the-syrian-decision/

jim nj

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/trumps-brave-decision-to-pull-troops-out-of-syria-puts-america-first

It does. I don't want to abandon the Kurds, but if Turkey is serious about an invasion I don't want our forces involved in defending them on the ground.

I think what isn't being explored in the news is that every actor in the region has to reexamine their prior thinking.

The Kurds will need to more flexible in their thinking. Syria will have to be more flexible in their thinking.

While Syria was unwilling to give the Kurds a semi-autonomous region maybe that's now better than a Turkish enclave.

I presume that Russia and Turkey will be at odds about this plan.

The knee-jerk reporting is useless if they can't figure out how this might realign self-interests in the region.

jim nj

https://nationalinterest.org/blog/middle-east-watch/syria-could-be-turkey%E2%80%99s-vietnam-86256

Syria Could be Turkey’s Vietnam

"Erdoğan may believe striking a blow against Kurds while confiscating their oil is a win for Turkey, but he is wrong: He is simply opening the door for a war of attrition that Turkey cannot afford and which it ultimately might lose."

Do you really want to take on a force that defeated ISIS and learned all of the ISIS tactics?

Do you really throw all of your main forces against the YPG without wondering what the PPK in eastern Turkey and Kurds in Iraq might do?

jim nj

https://amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/feb/01/americas-kurdish-allies-syria-turkey-nato

"Fighter jets, helicopter gunships, even Turkey’s German-supplied Panzer forces – they all degrade extremely quickly under combat conditions. The people who continually inspect, maintain, repair, replace, and provide them with spare parts tend to be contractors working for American, British, German or Italian firms. Their presence is critical because the Turkish military advantage over Northern Syria’s “People’s Defense Forces” (YPG) and “Women’s Defense Forces” (YPJ), those defenders of Kobane that Turkey has pledged to destroy, is entirely dependent on them."

Nice army you have there, you wouldn't want to lose your maintainers would you?

People are looking at what? 25 US service members moving out of harm's way and Trump's intemperate language.

That intemperate language has had more effect on the world than leaving this as merely a Trump-Erdogan contested conversation. It's out in the open. It's not just the US vs. Turkey. The world gets their say.

jim nj

I posted here on this before anyone else. I've been thinking about it ever since.

I hope I don't sound like a Trump apologist, but all the news coverage has been focused on opposition to Trump without considering that he might have played Erdogan.

No thought has been expended on how the news might affect reality.

Consider this - is a Turkish attack more or less likely, considering the push-back on multiple fronts.

You've noticed, and I fully admit to being an amateur warmonger, war-gamer, who really doesn't have a clue about these things, but I think Trump did this on purpose.

Just look at how many supposed liberal pacifists, in order to oppose Trump's poor judgement, turned into warmongers,

jim nj

My two cents on Syria. I'll stop now.

I took a Fortran college course in the 80's. The instructor was a semi-nazi in the sense that he wouldn't accept substandard code.

You wrote code in class. Homework was writing code. And it took a lot of time.

I got a reputation as a de-bugger. I was very adept at why code wouldn't compile.

I agree, if you don't grok logic, you can't code.

Captain Hate

Taibbi's dickweed editors ruined that story by having a picture of the mentally ill Bradley Manning. Also why no Linda Tripp in how whistleblowers have been treated like trash?

henry

Yes. Inconvenient for GDPR or Cal Data Privacy, but the hard truth.

The reality is that most attacks—at the point where they are detected—are “inside” attacks, because whether they are performed by a disgruntled employee or an external attacker using stolen or compromised credentials, they appear to be from an “authorized” user from the perspective of the IT department.

We are not there to protect the Kurds forever.
They are going to have to find their own path forward.

Another Bob

All those relationships were and are situational. The Kurds didn’t love us, they were using us for their own purposes, and helped us only as our self-interests aligned.

Only for America did the notion develop that some temporary alignment of interests should create some permanent obligation. And it’s always seemed that the real agenda was a Gulliver and the Lilliputians arrangement.
