South America. A few days ago the Argentinians rejected the austerity program of the current government in favor of electing a left-wing Peronista. Their economy is still (always?) in trouble.
Chile has seen protests continue over income inequality and other issues even though it has one of the strongest economies in South America.
Bolivia may be headed for a civil war over the contested Oct. 20 elections. The people, or many of them, are tired of the Marxist Morales and distrust the election results. First reports suggested that a run-off was needed and then Morales magically(?) gained the lead.

Argentina just elected a left-wing Peronist and rejected the austerity program meant to heal Argentina's economy. Why is that such a resource rich country is always in trouble?
Bolivia is near on the verge of a civil war after the recent election. Marxist Morales was headed for a run-off election until the vote suddenly shifted to his favor.
Chile is still consumed by protestors even though it has a strong economy. Something about income inequality.
In Peru they are still trying to figure out who is charge after the congress was dismissed.

If the Peronists think they can spend their way out of this they will learn that no one wants to loan them more money.
This is something I happened upon this morning. It was a hearing before the House Financial Services Committee by the SEC.
Thr Chairwoman is Maxine Waters. One of the members is Rep. Tlaib. The democrat members doing the questioning wanted to know things about how stockholders could file complaints with company boards to keep them from spending money in places like South Aftica, how to get more diversity on boards, whether the Trump family was making money in Opportunity Zones, how to let investors know the economic impact climate change would have on their business, etc. etc.
It occurs to me if these morons are in power, the entire country will end up like California's power company.

The President retweeted 12 items last night. Most have to do with the way the House is operating the fake impeachment. Here is his Twitter page if anyone wants to check. I don't think it's necessary to post them all here.
Impeachment vote #1: 58 Democrats voted in favor of impeaching Trump for the “high crime and misdemeanor” of insulting the NFL anthem protests (12/6/2017);
Impeachment vote #2: 66 Democrats voted in favor of impeaching Trump for the “high crime and misdemeanor” of employing the phrase “shithole countries” (1/19/2018);
Impeachment vote #3: 95 Democrats voted to impeach Trump for the “high crime and misdemeanor” of insulting The Squad (7/20/2019).
“The salient point being that the judge is the one who shepherds that determination, not the Atty General.”
I don’t think so, JMH. I think the prosecutor investigates the new evidence, figures out whether it exonerates the person who had been convicted, and then goes to the judge, who basically rubber-stamps it. So in this situation it would be Barr going to Judge Sullivan and saying “We’ve found new evidence that exonerates General Flynn, and request that the guilty verdict be vacated.”
Reminder that the Democrats ended their terrorism subcommittee and replaced it with an "investigate Trump" subcommittee and then wondered why Trump didn't tell them about the al-Baghdadi raid. https://t.co/XwtwMxnZm0

Between those two tweets I posted above, the President re-tweeted 3 of his own tweets:
1. 95% Approval Rating in the Republican Party, a record. Thank you!
2. Just confirmed that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s number one replacement has been terminated by American troops. Most likely would have taken the top spot - Now he is also Dead!
3. Nervous Nancy Pelosi is doing everything possible to destroy the Republican Party. Our Polls show that it is going to be just the opposite. The Do Nothing Dems will lose many seats in 2020. They have a Death Wish, led by a corrupt politician, Adam Schiff!
I am wondering if those tweets have a particular significance. I will be watching what happens today.
Re. that “old iPhone” story, the 5 was discontinued in late 2013, so not *that* dated.
Hard info seems hard coming by, but I’d be surprised if they didn’t connect to the ‘net. I am pretty sure Apple uses device time-of-day as part of their security regime, and Apple does specifically warn about Apple services being unavailable.
I develop products that use GPS and have been through a couple of these GPS rollovers. It’s a pain-in-the-a** problem, not because it’s complex to fix but that it’s typically very complex to deploy.
Btw I read yesterday that the Nats offered the Golden Scalpweasel the opportunity to throw out the first pitch and he wisely declined, preferring to just be another spectator in contrast to Gaylord being the center of attention while throwing like a retard. I'll cut GWB some slack for the symbolism of post 9/11 in NYC but I think DJT is restoring some dignity to the office by just being another citizen in the crowd.
I keep telling my friends that I'd be on board with centralized health care if our local public school district could actually get kids to school on time. Bureaucracy breeds ineptitude.
I'm not sure I'd even want these people on my side. I can relate to playing it cool and being unruffled by the democrats folly in the House, but really. Show a little energy and support for the President.
Barbara, those assholes can all suck my balls. maryrose can wave her pompoms for those losers all she wants but I'm not voting for any unless DJT endorses them. Trump has treated them far better than they deserve and with very few exceptions they're Democrats in the slow lane.
I keep telling my friends that I'd be on board with centralized health care if our local public school district could actually get kids to school on time.
Wrong answer. Always oppose the state controlling anything even if they seem to be good at it.
I'll cut GWB some slack for the symbolism of post 9/11 in NYC but I think DJT is restoring some dignity to the office by just being another citizen in the crowd.
That moment after 9/11 was so amazing, it still makes me teary. That was essential for us as a nation to see the CiC step out onto the field rather defiantly in the FDNY jacket.
“I'll cut GWB some slack for the symbolism of post 9/11 in NYC”
As much as I’ve come to dislike him, always respected that appearance - mostly because he actually looked like a proper male who knew how to throw a ball. Plus the pitch was dead center into the catchers glove.
Contrast with Gaylord who was every stereotype of a preening sissy.
Wrong answer. Always oppose the state controlling anything even if they seem to be good at it.
But they can't even get the kids to school on time. In fact, they've spent the first quarter of the school year making excuses for why they still haven't fixed last year's problem. It's a great answer as it illustrates perfectly why bureaucracies don't work.

I didn't have any particular interest in the World Series this year until the swamp booed my President and the First Lady. Now I'm rooting for the Astros!
I WAS rooting for the Nats, until their jackass fans booed my President, and all the beltway media crowed about it. So now I say, eff them.
The problem is, I despise the Astros. First of all for knocking my Yankees out of the playoffs. And second for their hyper-analytic, tech-bro approach that everyone else in the game now has to emulate, which absolutely sucks from where I sit.
The Nats fans are why the Ledge people should be careful what they wish for. A bunch of deep state operatives claiming vindication is a good way to get even more tyranny.
Early GPS satellites supplied date and time relative to a 10-bit week number. So that’s what older-design receiver chips were designed to use. That rolls over every 19.7 years (an “epoch” in GPS-speak).
Newer-block sats include a16-bit week number, but the old design receivers are still out there.
The dumb software fix is to add a different constant to the receiver time, which “fixes” it for another 19.7 years. Smarter fixes involve counting epochs in some way.

If you’re a 25th District voter, be prepared to be accosted coming out of Trader Joe’s by the likes of Alyssa Milano begging you to vote for whatever near-commie the Democrats put forward. To the extent that washed up 80s TV stars constitute star-power, be prepared to be wowed.
If this happens, just ask them where their kids went to college and how much it cost them to get them in.
A majority of students -- 51 percent -- indicated that students who wore such costumes should "be punished,” while 49 percent said that “highly offensive” costumes are “a protected form of free speech.”
The number of students saying others should be punished for "offensive" Halloween costumes is even higher at elite universities, with 58 percent of Ivy League students saying that wearing "offensive" costumes should have consequences.
And if the UK negotiates a nicer tariff schedule than the EU offers to “Others” the trade subsidies for France & Germany no longer work unless they can beggar their neighbors even more.

Right now in sporting good stores all across the state of Alabama you can buy replica football jerseys with numbers on them. A popular number for Bama right now is #13 which is Tua's number. For Auburn you can always find a 34 jersey for sale which was Bo Jackson's number. There won't be any names on the back of the jerseys because that hasn't been allowed due to NCAA rules but will be now. Now if Bama fans want a #13 jersey with "Tu. Tagovailoa" on the back of the jersey that will soon be available as soon as Tua signs an endorsement contract with Nike.

MM,
Seems to me Schiff is stopping the answers do questions that implicate him.
Posted by: Jane | October 30, 2019 at 07:50 AM
Posted by: MissMarple2 | October 30, 2019 at 07:53 AM
Jane,
The President seems to have no problem repeatedly calling Schiff corrupt. That he would stop questions implicating him would not surprise me.
And why did Pelosi let him run this charade?

Re. that “old iPhone” story, the 5 was discontinued in late 2013, so not *that* dated.

Barbara, those assholes can all suck my balls. maryrose can wave her pompoms for those losers all she wants but I'm not voting for any unless DJT endorses them. Trump has treated them far better than they deserve and with very few exceptions they're Democrats in the slow lane.

That moment after 9/11 was so amazing, it still makes me teary. That was essential for us as a nation to see the CiC step out onto the field rather defiantly in the FDNY jacket.

As much as I’ve come to dislike him, always respected that appearance - mostly because he actually looked like a proper male who knew how to throw a ball. Plus the pitch was dead center into the catchers glove.
Contrast with Gaylord who was every stereotype of a preening sissy.

But they can't even get the kids to school on time. In fact, they've spent the first quarter of the school year making excuses for why they still haven't fixed last year's problem. It's a great answer as it illustrates perfectly why bureaucracies don't work.

What exactly is this GPS rollover issue?
I got a message from Verizon that my GPS dependent apps will be hosed starting early November. I have an old Galaxy S3.
Sounds like a new phone will be easiest, quickest fix.

Posted by: Captain Hate | October 30, 2019 at 08:29 AM
Early GPS satellites supplied date and time relative to a 10-bit week number. So that’s what older-design receiver chips were designed to use. That rolls over every 19.7 years (an “epoch” in GPS-speak).
Newer-block sats include a16-bit week number, but the old design receivers are still out there.
Posted by: Another Bob | October 30, 2019 at 08:29 AM
The dumb software fix is to add a different constant to the receiver time, which “fixes” it for another 19.7 years. Smarter fixes involve counting epochs in some way.

Obviously, anything that relies on correct date/time-of-day is screwed on an unfixed device. Problem is there are lots of ways apps may use date/time under the covers.

I posted the other day that the lunatic SJW prog students were probably not the majority at elite colleges.
Maybe I was wrong:
https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=13923
A majority of students -- 51 percent -- indicated that students who wore such costumes should "be punished,” while 49 percent said that “highly offensive” costumes are “a protected form of free speech.”
The number of students saying others should be punished for "offensive" Halloween costumes is even higher at elite universities, with 58 percent of Ivy League students saying that wearing "offensive" costumes should have consequences.

I am still wrapping my head around any college athelete I would pay any amount of money for his T-shirt or cap.
