They wrote back and said they weren't taking girls.

A new generation of little girls watched today's historic

Matt, one of my besties up here used to be pals with Shelby. They played golf a lot at Belair CC when my bud was president there. He had a lot of great stories from that. I met Shelby right after the Ford GT came out and Ford had a big display tent at Oshkosh with one of those cut in half exhibits. He was in a wheelchair by then and I don’t think he was with us very long afterwards.

Back in the day, I was around a ton of Mustangs of about every flavor. Saw the very first one at the Palladium (?) in LA in April, 64 on the way to UCSB for a shooting match. Over the next few years, must have had several buddies who raced them in SCCA events, including several GT350s. They were fun to drive and easy to wrench on, given that they were pretty basic machines.

MT, I was never a Ford fan. I preferred Chevy and Mopar. I rebuilt a 64 Nova engine in one car and later bought, in 73, a 68 Camaro. Had to replace the camshaft two months later. Only 55,000 miles on it, the previous owner said. After looking at the wear on the cam I suspected the odometer had already rolled over once before.

With a little mechanical sense and reference books those older cars were easy to fix.

It was even a basic part of the economy back then. People who paid professionals to fix their cars sold them when the repair costs got too high. Those with the skills to fix them themselves bought them cheap and did the repairs themselves.

Narciso

Oh thats different

Yes but it now like apes before the monolith:

Then California and the FEDs stepped in with all kinds of new regulations.

And Detroit lost their way on quality control in the 70's.

Cars became nuisances. I mean color-coded vacuum lines?

And nowadays most of the cars look alike and are mostly painted in muted neutral colors.

Narciso

No, next question.

Seriously. The same CLOWNS work for the FBI.

To not recognize and/or understand the MONIED and CALCULATED nonsense is SCARY. Hillary Rodham like PORNOGRAPHY, has ZERO SOCIAL REDEEMING VALUE. THE PIG, that I am referring to, is a DISGUSTING shit pile.

Speaking of Lebanon, I was looking at some of my dad's slides the other day which were of my folks having lunch on the balcony of a beautiful hotel overlooking the Mediterranean in Beirut. Also beautiful pictures of the Beqaa Valley and the ancient ruins at Baalbek. This was back in the early '50s when Lebanon was the Switzerland of the ME. Also had a good friend who taught at the American University there. So sad what has happened to that country. Of course they mostly brought it on themselves.

Personally, I would love to meet this FUCKWAD, and I would goad him into running his blustering CAKE HOLE.

jim nj

Gus,

My disdain for government regulation started in my late teens or early twenties when I saw what they did to Detroit's automakers in the name of ostensibly cleaning the air.

It's just continued to grow since then.

Some nebulous enabling law is passed. Then the regulations get "built" by "experts." Then courts pass weird judgements on those regs or order the departments to issue new ones because of some liberal interpretation of the underlying law.

It's a perverse version of "eminent d
domain," they aren't directly taking our property, but they do remove consumer choice.

Consumer choice, not the government, yields the greatest benefit.

jim nj

When government dictates that something is the "right" way to solve a problem it crowds out possibly better ideas.

Betamax vs. VHS, the consumers decided.

And various industries use the process for "rent-seeking" either to protect a product or to make a move to a new standard that they can dominate.

GE was a good example. They were no longer the low-cost producer of incandescent light bulbs, so they lobby-ed for new regs that would favor the new technology they had developed.

I got spam for California District 3.

Hi, I’m Sean Feucht.

Yes, you certainly are.

Pinandpuller

Fedposting can either be a fed entering a board trying to entrap someone or a person who seems to be heedlessly commenting to draw fed attention. It’s a little like flammable/inflammable but different.

Just don’t ask me about “dabbing”, I am unable to grock that term.

"As humankind moves, perhaps inexorably, towards the digital welfare future it needs to alter course significantly and rapidly to avoid stumbling zombie-like into a digital welfare dystopia," the Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, Philip Alston, says in a report to be presented to the General Assembly on Friday.

The digital welfare state is commonly presented as an altruistic and noble enterprise designed to ensure that citizens benefit from new technologies, experience more efficient government, and enjoy higher levels of well-being. But, Alston said, the digitization of welfare systems has very often been used to promote deep reductions in the overall welfare budget, a narrowing of the beneficiary pool, the elimination of some services, the introduction of demanding and intrusive forms of conditionality, the pursuit of behavioural modification goals, the imposition of stronger sanctions regimes, and a complete reversal of the traditional notion that the state should be accountable to the individual.

"Digital welfare states thereby risk becoming Trojan Horses for neoliberal hostility towards social protection and regulation," said the UN Special Rapporteur. "Moreover, empowering governments in countries with significant rule of law deficits by endowing them with the level of control and the potential for abuse provided by these biometric ID systems should send shudders down the spine of anyone even vaguely concerned to ensure that the digital age will be a human rights friendly one".

And Detroit lost their way on quality control in the 70's.

I watched the Motown documentary "Hitsville USA" the other night. It emphasized how Berry Gordy's experience working at Ford Motor in the 50s, after his record store failed, taught him about the assembly line and quality control, and how he applied that to Motown.

I'd highly recommend it. It's a feel-good documentary, and glosses over some things like Gordy's messy personal life, but it really shows what a remarkable genius he was. Also he had no racial agenda or resentment--for his management team he hired whoever he thought was best for the job, white or black, ignoring pressure and protests from the black community.

He also tried to push back against songs that promoted drug use or were political, feeling it was bad for the brand, though eventually he gave in ("Cloud Nine," etc.). Basically he just wanted to make money, so he groomed the product to appeal to as broad an audience as possible.

This sounds like a tragedy in the making.

jimmyk,

Those older cars were built better than the 70's cars.

The UAW was in revolt mode in the 70's. In the very early 70's I was still in car mode working for a Pontiac dealer. One of my responsibilities was accepting new car deliveries. I'd have to write up a report on each car.

I'd get in a car and look at the front passenger floor and it would have loose bolts, nuts, washers and screws lying on the floor.

We would report that back to the factory and wonder if they were excess or not used properly in the manufacturing process.

"Standing in the Shadow of Motown" is another good documentary about The Funk Brothers, the studio band of local musicians that was Motown's version of The Wrecking Crew who developed the trademark sounds. Ironically concert footage interspersed through the storyline has them backing up contemporary singers.

Kasich is a snake and has always been a snake, it was him and Boehner that knifed Newt in the back.

Also Kasich has claimed that all of the partisan rancor we see today can be traced back to Newt and his prosecution of the Clinton impeachement among other things he accuses Newt of.

Again, Kasich is a snake.

MM,

Audits are a relatively new idea in government, even though corporations have been doing them for decades per government rules.

This new look at government audits doesn't mean that government is corrupt. It just means that their accounting systems suck so bad that the SEC would fine them if they were public corporations.

And if you think about it, those government accounting systems can hide a multitude of sins. So the departments have no incentive to fix them. We might be able to figure out which programs are a waste of money.
