so mitt is going to captain the ss cuck with his national review cruisers crew ... full steam ahead.

It is just unbelievable how terrible Romney has shown himself to be.

I hate to disagree with James D twice in one day, but I don't think anyone here finds Romney's treachery the least bit unbelievable or surprising. But think of this: Has there been a single Democrat in the last 30 years who has undercut any D President Romney has Trump? Even Slick, who deserved to be stabbed in the back had nothing but defenders as far as I can recall. The traitorous clean toga Republican will always be with us.

rich

wonder what dirt the fbi or cia has on mittens?

sorry, "...any D President *the way* Romney has Trump...."

can't think of any ... did any democrats come after carter? iirc phil graham resigned his seat and then ran as a republican? (sort of before my time but i vaguely recall reading something about it)

MissMarple2

Well, I am glad I found those articles on Romney at Breitbart and Slate. To me, his having given many "likes" to George Conway, Kellyanne's husband, is disgusting.

Naeciso,

If you ask me, we dodged a bullet with that guy. He's self-righteous, arrogant, without humor, and vindictive. I bet his money wasn't all acquired on the up-and-up, either.

rich, that's why I said 30 years, I couldn't remember back to Carter. There was Zell Miller back in 2004, but he turned on Kerry, not a D President.

Jim, Matthews and MoDo both were kind of tough on Clinton, but I was really asking about politicians--Senators, Congressmen and the like.

A little resistance:

jimmyk

The point is that any of us can easily name a half dozen R turncoats just in the last 10 years: Mittens, McCain, Murkowski, Flake, Corker, Collins, Snowe, and on and on. And that's just the Senate.

MissMarple2

jimmyk,

True, but all 3 knew they could be critical and it wouldn't matter. I will never forget my teacher sister coming over the day of the Clinton Senate vote and darn-near crying because he didn't get removed. I think Clinton was the last democrat she voted for.

The GOP Senators had better stiffen their spines and realize people are paying attention. Tempers are rising over their behavior as well as the democrats'.

This could rank right up their with the notorious Boston Fed mortgage study:

https://www.wsj.com/articles/blind-spots-in-the-blind-audition-study-11571599303

Since it may be behind the paywall:

It is one of the most famous social-science papers of all time. Carried out in the 1990s, the “blind audition” study attempted to document sexist bias in orchestra hiring. Lionized by Malcolm Gladwell, extolled by Harvard thought leaders, and even cited in a dissent by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the study showed that when orchestras auditioned musicians “blindly,” behind a screen, women’s success rates soared. Or did they?
...
Anonymous tryouts make sense as a means of achieving impartiality. But Ms. Goldin and Ms. Rouse verified nothing about the value of blind recruitment for women.

Nor has anyone else. The subsequent research is a morass of baseless claims, retracted statements and contradictory findings.

In fact, the article points out, the only rigorous subsequent study showed the opposite: Orchestras were practicing affirmative action, and blind auditions actually reduced the numbers of women who got jobs.

Of course there will be no consequences for the perpetrators of this fraud, including not just the authors, who had all sorts of disclaimers, but all the people who promoted the false finding.

Jack is Back!

Mitt is not a one off. There are at least 6 or 8 in the Senate who are what I call soft votes:

Collins
Alexander
Murkowski
Burr
Sasse
Ernst
Portman
Lee

Watch carefully.

Jack is Back!

Tomorrow:

On October 21, 1805, off the coast of Spain, the fleet of the British Empire, under the command of Horatio Lord Admiral Nelson, engaged and decisively defeated a larger French and Spanish Navy.

Previously, Admiral Nelson had lost his right eye capturing Corsica and his right arm attacking the Canary Islands. He captured six and destroyed seven of Napoleon's ships at the Battle of the Nile and successfully assaulted Copenhagen. However, Admiral Nelson is best remembered (and immortalized) for winning one of the greatest naval battles in history, The Battle of Trafalgar. The daring 47-year-old Nelson defeated Napoleon's [age 36] combined French and Spanish fleets, consisting of 33 ships with 2,640 guns off the coast of Spain.

Napoleon received fifteen million dollars two years earlier from selling 600 million acres to the United States [Louisiana Purchase], but it was not enough to change the outcome. Admiral Nelson's defeat of the French navy abruptly ended Napoleon's power at sea, and with it, his dreams of world conquest. The 90,000 French troops assembled on the coast of France were forced to abandon their plans of crossing the English Channel and invading Britain.

During the Battle of Trafalgar, cannonade and musket shot ripped apart ships at point blank range, killing or wounding nearly ten thousand. Admiral Nelson was fatally shot in the spine. He was carried below deck to the ship's surgeon where he died. Admiral Horatio Nelson's last words were: "Thank God I have done my duty."

Narciso

In the Aubrey/Maturin historical fiction series, Jack cherishes his memory of hearing Nelson say "I have no need of a coat, I have my love of country to keep me warm" (I probably have that wrong but it's not that far off).

They don't make 'em like that anymore ...

“But .. ask of the Devnshire men;
For they heard in the dead of night
The roll of a drum, and they saw him pass
On a ship all shining white.

“He stretched out his dead cold face
And he sailed in the grand old way !
The fishes had taken an eye and his arm,
But he swept Trafalgar’s Bay.

“Nelson .. was Francis Drake !
O, what matters the uniform,
Or the patch on your eye or your pinned-up sleeve,
If your soul’s like a North Sea storm ?”

These are the last 3 stanzas of "The Admiral's Ghost" by Alfred Noyes, which I read in high school. It's a long and very haunting poem, but I have always loved it.

I located it at a page of The Nelson Society, but didn't want to bring the entire thing over here.
