If we are so generous to our fellow man as to be naive and dishonest we can pretend that "we" all seek the same outcomes; less poverty, less disease, less crime, more wealth, more harmony, more liberty.
But even if those truly were shared goals, the murders, the political fights, the wars, the genocides and all the rest of the monstrous atrocities committed by man are over the means by which those goals are attained.
Now, in fact, we know the real goals are control, power, greed and the fruits of the flesh in general and therein lies the problem. Those who seek those will kill you to get them and we must, in the end, kill them to prevent them from taking them from us. That has been human existence since Cain and Abel and will be to the end. And it is only the thin veneer of civilization that keeps the progs from our throats; a veneer they are doing their best to shred.
On this day give thanks that you don't have to kill your grasping neighbor...yet. Happy Thanksgiving!
Echoing Jimnj from last thread; I too found myself, through evil circumstances largely out of my control, without a home about this time three years ago. Through God's good grace, Porch's kindness and drive and the voluntary generosity of people here that is so foreign to the graspers I mentioned above, I was able to bridge the gulf from there to here.
And it was six years ago this month that Mrs Iggy left me here alone. But with time one learns to appreciate not that she left too early but that I had 23 years with a girl so extraordinary that, I hope this doesn't sound jerk-like, I feel sorry for guys who married regular, normal women and have regular, normal marriages.
And I met my daughter's new boyfriend yesterday and he handled with aplomb my greeting that I hoped I would never have to kill him. Turns out he is the son of the sweet woman who used to attend our church and who altered Mrs Ig's wedding dress and my suit for our wedding almost thirty years ago.
And the lovely girl who I have labeled, uncharitably, "crazy" but who in fact has just been wounded by life perhaps no more or maybe even less than I have, has been getting a bit closer to me, as her wounds allow her, over the last few weeks.
I am thankful tor the friendship and help given to me by people here when my son totalled my Jeep and my husband left me. I could never have made it without you wonderful people.
My son is now married to a wonderful woman, has custody of his son (my youngest grandson), my other grandchildren are doing well, and my daughter got a new, great job.
Much to be thankful for, including that Donald John Trump is our President!

Back in the day, people had this instead of turkey for Thanksgiving. Thanks to silent Cal it has run out of favor. Imagine bringing a roast of this to your MIL’s Thanksgiving dinner😉
We are attending an important Thanksgiving dinner. My eldest granddaughter is hosting her first family holiday meal. She is with a great guy, there will be many kids underfoot, and we all are pitching in. I'm making the smoked Turkey, and MrsJ has baked a couple of pies and made cranberries.
Still, I see it as a start to her adult life, which has not come easily.
Oh, Miss Marple, I just read your 12:20 and teared up. I am so happy for you, and, I think it speaks to your strength and tenacity that you have weathered the challenges that life has thrown in your path. You've remained an optimist when so many other people might have become embittered.
I'm thankful that I "know" you this Thanksgiving. And, of course, I'm thankful for jom. :)
George Washington issued a proclamation on October 3, 1789, designating Thursday, November 26 as a national day of thanks. In his proclamation, Washington declared that the necessity for such a day sprung from the Almighty’s care of Americans prior to the Revolution, assistance to them in achieving independence, and help in establishing the constitutional government.
Resting after a wonderful meal. Thought I would post a couple things.
This might take some splainin. When flying at altitude during early morning, or late afternoon, you can get a 'glory' in cloud formations when the sun is directly behind the direction you are looking. In clear conditions, if you look across the terrain, you can spot the occasional flash of a taillight or a street sign. So, on Monday when crossing the Appalachia ridges looking off to the NE, I kept seeing little bergs in the valleys that would simultaneously flash every sign and taillight for a couple seconds as we crossed the exact zero angle opposite the sun. Every time I saw one, I would reach for my phone and then miss the flash because it was gone too quickly. As the sun got lower, the towns that flashed would get further away. This one was about 60 miles away. Think of it as a 1K lasers pointed at you all at once.
So Tuesday, we did our usual afternoon run to a friend's outdoor range to play with our toys. This first image is the Boss leaving her mark on the steel plate at 60 yds with the scope on my -15.
And this is with her using my new RedDot sight rolled off to the side as you might need at close range and/or quick response. (Still at 60 yds)
BTW, this is her first long gun shooting after getting her new eyeballs last Winter (no glasses).
Happy Thanksgiving to the ladies and gentlemen of JOM.

Happy Thanksgiving to the JOM gang!! It will always be a special place. And to build upon Miss Marple’s praise - it has also helped me through some very rough times. Lots of big hearts and beautiful minds here... :)
Went over yesterday to see a friend who has 30 homeless women living with he and his wife (Catholic Worker if you know it). Ended up helping feed 60-70 homeless from the back gate. They were so very grateful. A very nice turkey dinner.
A lot of well meaning people go out on the streets to feed the homeless on Thanksgiving Day, but there are 364 other days in the year My friend chose this life 30 years ago. We get into all sorts of interesting discussions. He's pretty hard core; knows all the angles and is pretty tough in his thinking. A cot and 3 meals for most of them.
He's one of my sources to know what is really happening on the street.
I seem to find myself in the right place at the right/wrong time pretty often.
About to sit down for our own family dinner. Will report back after the coma.
Link goes to screen cap wherein we see Newsweek reporting the President spent all day golfing and tweeting while we see him in Afghanistan with the troops.
Hi @Newsweek
- we’re actually on our way back from Afghanistan right now. @realDonaldTrump
served Thanksgiving dinner to members of the military & thanked them for their incredible service to our country. Standing by for you to delete this completely false tweet.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Hope it was an enjoyable time with friends and family.
We had it without the son and DIL, Grace and Paige again this year (last year Paige was still in NICU after her early arrival) but this year, Paige was back in the hospital with RSV. She was released yesterday, but they are laying low and keeping her out of crowds. We had almost 50 at my brother's house.
MT at 3:25. Congratulations to Mrs. MT on that fabulous shooting. The two of you (and any other JOM’ers) should join Caro and me in St. George next October to compete in the Huntsman World Senior Games. We did Centerfire Handgun this year, with Caro winning a gold medal in her age class, and I a bronze. And please do stop here on your way back from North Carolina. We’re in St. George all of December, except December 2-4 at Front Sight for training. Call or write if you want to talk about any of this.
That article is important. It is one reason I intend to get Doug Wead's book on the Trump White House, since he is an historian and tries to give people facts, rather than his opinion.
I do this in small things, too. Today we were talking about the Indianapolis Interurban, which was a high-speed train which ran from Indianapolis to small cities in the surrounding counties. You can still see where the track line ran, now paved over, so that often on this side of town you will see a small street running parallel to the major street, often just 20-30 feet away.
The Interurban ran at speeds approaching 100 mph. Why did it disappear? General Motors bought it and then shut it down, in order to encourage more automobile purchases. This is not a legend, but fact. It is similar to why Kroger bought the locally-owned March supermarket chain, and then either established their stores as Kroger's or shut the grocery down entirely.
Kids around here learn nothing about stuff like this, and yet it is important.
I talk about American and world history to my younger relatives as often as I can. We cannot count on the schools to transmit the knowledge.
Yay!
So glad to see Elliot( wonderful dialogue).
Your writing skills and those of Iggy are a wonder to behold.
Steph:
Sorry about the grandkids.
RSV is nothing to mess around with and precaution always s wise move.
Beasts, so glad to to see you and Buford Gooch!
Now we just need to hear from Caro and hubby to make my day.

Wonderful day with a truly great family.

IPad help if someone can help. I don’t know how it happened but I now have two same size identical screens side by side and can’t make it just one screen. Any ideas.

Hi All! Happy Thanksgiving! God bless you all!

That there is some high quality journalism.

Narciso,
That article is important.

IPad help if someone can help. I don’t know how it happened but I now have two same size identical screens side by side and can’t make it just one screen. Any ideas.
Posted by: Jim Eagle | November 28, 2019 at 08:22 PM
JIB, there should be a small “handle” in the middle of the divider. Just drag it off the screen. Either direction should whorl.

C&E, what pistola did you choose for the competition?
I think Mrs MT is going to have to stick with her SP101. She cannot reliably rack the slide in any of our auto loaders. :(
