Henry: the “non weird” countries cannot be built into democracies any time soon, they will remain tribal shitholes for generations to come.
That smacked me upside the head like a 10lb mackerel. If we based our policies on fundamentals instead of fantasies and wishful thinking, we could immediately refrain from ever trying to impose democracy on those 3rd world shitholes.
From the last thread:Amy Barrett, get the haircut and color, and make sure your toiletry bag is in order.

LOL, the WSJ posts this "breaking news": "A White House official feared a leak of the transcript of Trump's Ukraine call could be politically damaging, testimony shows."
Yawn. This is supposed to be impeachable? That some official thought the politics wasn't good? I remember when doing what you think is right despite the politics was considered a good thing.
A public dispute has arisen between the French officials in charge of the reconstruction of the fire-damaged Notre Dame cathedral in Paris. General Jean-Louis Georgelin, who is President Emmanuel Macron's special representative on the project, stunned MPs by insulting the chief architect in charge of the cathedral, telling him “to shut his big mouth” in front of the National Assembly’s cultural commission.
Let's hear it for that famous French diplomacy. As far as I know, nobody has blamed Trump for the fracas yet.
Also in Paris, a century ago, we find Loie Fuller and the Serpentine [sic], a performance in which the dancer transforms herself into... something.
Mondo Museum, a simulation game out next year from Kitfox Games, will task players with building their own institutions, filling them with interesting things to see, and making sure the whole place runs smoothly. It’s like Sim City or Roller Coaster Tycoon—but for people who want to run the Met.
You're wondering about the "metrics" of success, aren't you?
[B]y and large, the game is not about replicating the modern museum. Instead, it posits an alternative form of institution, one free from colonial histories, strict genre restraints, and underpaid labor.
In the world of Mondo, art is never purchased, and artifacts are never obtained through imperialism or theft; all historical objects live in institutions near to where they were created.

Lovely shower at a winery restaurant basement bar in old Cincinnati. Great wine, lovely and exotic hor d'ouevres, NO games except for a raffle which my teacher sister won, which prize was a basket with a bottle of wine, a throw, and a candle.
Coming home on I-74 traffic was backed up due to an overturned semi in the median, which looked frightening and if we hadn't have stopped for gas, we would have been right next to it. Pretty scary!

About MOMA. Once years ago I took a visiting friend from aHK to the National Gallery of art. She was astonished how easily the guards interacted with us, talking about the paintings and showing us interesting feature we might have missed--like a dead cockroach embedded in a Jackson Pollock painting we were looking at.
Very different than British Museums where the guards treat you suspiciously and show no great interest in the art.
Sometime later, I was at MOMA and they had an exhibit which featured a guard's work. A donor had somehow learned about his work , loved it and sponsored the exhibition. My friend from HK would never have imagined such a thing.

Interesting theory I suppose but it seems to ignore the fact that Christianity itself turned the world upside down as far as tribalism, kinship, individualism and all the rest of it are concerned from the very start.
Your family was no longer blood relations but your fellow children of God. You were no longer a possession of the state or your master but were a creation and possession of God. And you were no longer connected to God through birth, tribe or even religion, but each believer had an individual relationship to God with no need of priest or shaman or other intermediary. We could now, as Hebrews 4 says, boldly approach the throne of grace ourselves.
I LOL'd when I got to the end of that report on the President's excellent health over at The Hill. Is it just me, or does it seem like they can't help themselves as they wrap up the column with:
The health report released in February did not indicate that Trump took a cognitive exam during his most recent checkup.
I guess today's test didn't include one either, but since it was only Part 1 of the exam, they had to go all the way back to February to insert cognitive testing into the mix.
This morning I posted my suspicions about Chad Pergram's news that Mark Sandy had been subpoenaed. I just ran across this tweet:

Thought it was obvious JMH. If articles are voted out of the house, chances are about 100% the democrats and media will try to strip Trump’s power immediately. It’s up to Mitch to not get sucked into that re. appointments,
These days I'm never sure whether people are using the word "Impeached" technically or generally. I assumed McConnell meant impeached and convicted, as most people seem to be u sing the term these days. Technically, of course, you'd be correct that it's the House that impeaches the President. I'm also sure you're quite right that the Dems will immediately start claiming that it is incumbent on the President to abstain from exercising his powers, but I have a hard time seeing McConnell, Wizard of Rulz, falling for that. He might sell somebody out, but he's not going to get tricked.
The transformation of Kanye has just been incredible. Although he's far from someone I willingly listen to, I know having him on your side is a lot more significant than, say, James Taylor.
It's not quite as much of a transformation as you might think. Kanye's first big hit, back in 2009 was Jesus Walks, has some pretty clear religious roots.
Or perhaps you were talking about his political transformation, which has certainly been transformed since his pronouncement that "George Bush hates black people."
Still 700+ precincts to come in, but I wouldn't know a what that means even if I knew which ones they were. That portal is a bit confusing, because in the governor's race the Republican progress strip is green, while the Republican Sect'y State candidate's is purple. I wonder what the total number of absentee votes might be, and if enough will remain uncounted till they know how many the Democrats will need. The craziest people in America come from Louisiana, so no telling how things will come out.
Or perhaps you were talking about his political transformation, which has certainly been transformed since his pronouncement that "George Bush hates black people."
Exactly. I never thought that within my lifetime the GOP would be on the right side of popular culture.
Ditto for Candace Owens who would be remarkable no matter what color she might be. I only wish our Congresspeople had her take no prisoners, take no grief, attitude.
I find it weird that Hillary Clinton all of a sudden went to visit Meghan Markle on the same week Prince Andrew is speaking out. Hillary & Markle arent friends. That bitch went to meet Andrew. #princeandrewinterview

Captain Hate:
It's not quite as much of a transformation as you might think. Kanye's first big hit, back in 2009 was Jesus Walks, has some pretty clear religious roots.

The link given earlier seems to provide more up-to-date Louisiana results.
With 79% in:
John Bel Edwards (DEM): 622,727
"Eddie" Rispone (REP): 632,350
It all depends on which precincts remain.

Or perhaps you were talking about his political transformation, which has certainly been transformed since his pronouncement that "George Bush hates black people."

transformed s/b dramatic above

rispone has an 11K lead with only one parish left to report.

Exactly. I never thought that within my lifetime the GOP would be on the right side of popular culture.

How high is the bar set for challenging the results in LA, I wonder? Too lazy to look it up.
Posted by: JM Hanes | November 16, 2019 at 10:42 PM
Sadly, with 90% in, the Dem has taken the lead.
Posted by: MJW | November 16, 2019 at 10:42 PM
Clarice that is one parish absentee vote. There are still about 400 precincts to report

Ditto for Candace Owens who would be remarkable no matter what color she might be. I only wish our Congresspeople had her take no prisoners, take no grief, attitude.

Just once, I wish they'd tabulate all the urban center votes first.
Posted by: JM Hanes | November 16, 2019 at 10:57 PM
Looks like Edwards has won, unless some error is found.
