9 Members of Mormon Family in Mexico Are Killed in Ambush
Six children were among the victims in a massacre attributed to organized crime, relatives said. Other children were rescued, some of whom hid along a roadside.

$1 trillion in federal spending has done nothing to close the achievement gap.
It was never intended to.
It was intended to produce students who are ignorant of history, and deficient in life skills, to make them less self-sufficient and this more reliable Democrat voters. And it has succeeded dramatically in that aim.

I am fully in favor of an overhaul of how we fund public education, which is where I think DeVos is going. I want to emulate the Arizona model, which is essentially vouchers that can be spent however a family chooses.
We deliberately chose to live in our school district because of the public alternative middle/high school that pperates a bit like a charter school and is basically grandfathered in as it was a 70's era experiment that has enough support in the community to keep the money grubbers from shutting it down, as they desire to do every 10 years or so.
The problem is that the school has a lottery system and the demand is incredibly high - last year only 41% of the applicants gained admission. People start questioning whether to continue to fund it whenever budget cuts are in view.

Texas Monthly, a pretty liberal magazine, published a nice epitaph on Beto's campaign, noting that he had destroyed his ability to ever run for office in Texas again. They had what I thought was a good take on how he went so wrong - first, he never realized that during his Senate run, he was totally a media creation, with fawning adulation. And that was all "look at young, hip, Moderate Beto, who is Friendly and Cool, compared to that nasty mean old Ted Cruz!!!"
Beto thought it was all about him and how great he was, but it was just marketing. So he went national thinking it would happen again, but here came Butttigieg, and he was the same as Beto but a point higher on the Victimology pyramid, so all of the media support dumped Beto and moved to the new exciting Gay Guy, who was otherwise the same.
This is where Beto should have started to try and develop his own political voice, but he panicked and decided he REALLY needed to go Total Woke to get the magic back. And that's when he started to talk about confiscating guns, and penalizing churches. His plan not only failed miserably, it was so badly thought out that it destroyed his chance to ever run for any public office again. Bye Bye Beto!!!

Her opponent,Sara Gideon is an attractive and popular southern Maine candidate, although her campaign has already had some campaign money *issues*. Maine is trending blue, despite ME-02 going for Trump. The ME-02 Dem Congressman (Jared Golden) voted for the impeachment inquiry,so he got his marching orders. We heard lots of grumbling about Collins over the summer. --Brady material is not ordinarily produced before a plea agreement--
I find that a thumb on the scale of justice in favor of the prosecution that is incompatible with the American theory of justice.
It allows the prosecution to suppress exculpatory material that would in many cases no doubt lead to a different or no plea agreement if it were revealed.
I don't care if it's a pedophile, a rapist or a serial killer case; it allows the state to unduly pressure a citizen into confessing to a crime without actually charging him with it until after he confesses. It is institutionalized, SCOTUS approved prosecutorial abuse IMO.

I suggest you take your own advice and read the story as well. Once you do you will see that my comment was correct. According to the article, the Mormon community these slain Americans lived in was CONNECTED to the NXIVM sex cult.
The outpost Mormon community in Mexico is where underlings of Nxivm leader Keith Raniere recruited young women to work as nannies in an upstate New York compound run by the accused cult — suggesting at least in part that the jobs would get the girls away from their home region’s drug violence, according a man hired by Raniere to produce a documentary about the group.
Do you really think the recruited young women actually ended up working as nannies?

The article could use more details but based on the choice of wording it sounds to me like it was Mexican girls getting recruited as sex slave, not white Mormon girls.
...the jobs would get the girls away from their home region’s drug violence
Would that region in Mexico be the home region to white Mormon girls? Also, sounds like that Mormon community is a mission. They wouldn't need to become nannies to escape the drug cartel violence. They would just go back to their permanent home in the US.
