The $3,000 and 5 star accommodation in London, in almost certainly a bugged hotel room, that bumbling spy, Stefan Halper, paid me was from the same office at the Pentagon now under investigation by Durham. The UK is implicated. Halper was there to cover for Downer.
=====================================
I have no idea if this is accurate or not. I am putting it up for information.

Captain Hate

I'm not leaving, Miss Marple, at least no current plans; just commenting that living in interesting times isn't necessarily a blessing, as henry understands.

Barbara

IIRC, President Reagan was a fan of President Coolidge. I believe he had a portrait of Coolidge in the Oval Office.

The Infamous Ignatz

It doesn't matter what California, the EU or Greta frickin Thunberg or any of these other dopes do;growing fossil fuel usage is baked into the cake by developing countries.
You think they're going back to the Stone Age to please Mark Ruffalo and Taylor Swift?

Captain Hate

But including Cal blows up my outsider argument, although a small government advocate would be an outsider today. Ok, Cal's in!

President Trump and the First Lady have gone to Dover to meet the remains of military killed in Afghanistan.

CH, how did Hunter Thompson put it? “When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.” I’m weird.

REPORT: Eastwood's 'Richard Jewell' Mercilessly Trashes The Fake News Media

...Writing at IndieWire, Ryan Lattanzio said both the media and the FBI are portrayed as the "bad guys not to be trusted" while commending the film for attempting to give Richard Jewell justice....

Captain Hate

I think that's an accurate quote, henry.

Barbara

"In his autobiography, Ronald Reagan: An American Life, President Ronald Reagan wrote praise of President Calvin Coolidge, saying that he “always thought of Coolidge as one of our most underrated presidents.”[1] Reagan further wrote:

He [Coolidge] wasn’t a man with flamboyant looks or style, but he got things done in a quiet way. He came into office after World War I facing a momentous war debt, but instead of raising taxes, he cut the tax rate and government revenues increased, permitting him to eliminate the wartime debt…[2]

President Reagan found much he could admire in Calvin Coolidge. Perhaps the most common story told about Reagan and his admiration for Coolidge was when he symbolically placed the former President’s portrait in the Cabinet Room of the White House."

The portrait went in the Cabinet Room. See more at:

Jack is Back!

I am in the CH camp. This place insn't worth my sanity. Too many here are absoultist experts on everything but life. I am ready to depart and say farewell and fair winds to those willing to continue the debate on who is right and who is wrong.

Coolidge gets credit for the Coolidge Effect
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coolidge_effect

The President and Mrs. Coolidge were being shown [separately] around an experimental government farm. When [Mrs. Coolidge] came to the chicken yard she noticed that a rooster was mating very frequently. She asked the attendant how often that happened and was told, "Dozens of times each day." Mrs. Coolidge said, "Tell that to the President when he comes by." Upon being told, the President asked, "Same hen every time?" The reply was, "Oh, no, Mr. President, a different hen every time." President: "Tell that to Mrs. Coolidge."

MissMarple2

Jack,

Please don't leave! Take a break and check in every once in a while. I LOVE hearing your stories from different places you worked, and I want to know how Frederick is doing.

PLEASE reconsider!

The Infamous Ignatz

Cal was an outsider in spirit.

Narciso

Coolidge was painted as reticent by the likes of dorothy thompson who had her own agenda. Schlaes memoir helped me understamd where he came from and how he evolved. After the bostom police strike.

Buckeye

Gee, thanks BOE.

Feeling even older and more decrepit now:)

Narciso

Its hard to break out from prog curcles, coolidge did it, then hoover botched the pudding for a generation, reagan did it then bush sr made similar errors, nixon was wrongheaded in certain specific policies, but ford was little better.

Circles, when you take the long view weve been running in place, if not backwards.

I value iconoclast views, yes its very easy to absorb the narrative we're drowning in it, and accepting it mean things get worse thats the purpose of the demoralizing, did epstein meet with foul play, there are elements that suggest it.

Brett Biare on Fox just now grilling Jordan using Dem talking points - at some point someone needs to tell Brett why he seems completely not skeptical about anything the Dems are whining about - it becomes embarrassing after so many narrative failures. He talks to Jordan like he's amazed how no one can see all the corruption the Dems are pointing to!
The latest breathless thing Brett wonders aloud without an ounce of self-awareness is how can ALL these senior courageous DOS officials be wrong? And only Trump is right? As Jordan pointed out, Trump's not allowed to have his own witnesses...so you ain't seeing them Brett - and there are hundreds upon hundreds of these DOS people to contradict these few idiots Schiff weeded out.

I wasn't going to post this, but is suddenly seems apropos: Presidential IQs:

Many US Presidents were born before the modern IQ exam was invented to measure intelligence. But it is safe to predict IQ levels based on psychological studies and historical data. Besides, not many people have taken a formal IQ test, and even the tests themselves are varied and cannot exactly be precise. A level of 140 can be considered genius level, and the average IQ is at 115.

I suspect we'd all disagree with the authors about the putative safety of "predicting" IQs, so with that proviso I post the following just for the fun of checking out somebody else's ranking of presidential intelligence. The second tranche of names are the ones whose scores they admit to just guessing. But nevermind. They wind up stating that "All US Presidents Had A Minimum Of Above Average IQ Levels (Average = 115). They're listed in ascending order of intelligence.

Ulysses S. Grant (120)
Andrew Johnson (125)
William Howard Taft (126)
Calvin Coolidge (127)
Harry S. Truman (128)
Zachary Taylor (129)
James Buchanan (129)
Ronald Reagan (130)
William Mckinley (130)
Richard Nixon (132)
Dwight D. Eisenhower (132)
James Monroe (139)
George W. Bush (139)

Millard Fillmore (149)
Franklin Delano Roosevelt (150)
Barack Obama (155)
Jimmy Carter (156)
Bill Clinton (159)
John Fitzgerald Kennedy (160)
Thomas Jefferson (160)
John Quincy Adams (175)

James Madison (estimated IQ: 155)
John Adams (estimated IQ: 155)
Franklin Pierce (estimated IQ: 147)
Woodrow Wilson (estimated IQ: 145)
Benjamin Harrison (estimated IQ: 145)
Chester A. Arthur (estimated IQ: 142)
James A. Garfield (estimated IQ: 141)
John Tyler (estimated IQ: 136)
Martin Van Buren (estimated IQ: 133)
William Henry Harrison (estimated IQ: 132)
James K. Polk (estimated IQ: 130)
Herbert Hoover (estimated IQ: 130)
Warren G. Harding (estimated IQ: 124)

Narciso

Im surprised grant is at the bottom of the scale, you have to have various intelligences to be able to succeed at command staff.

Narciso:

I was too, but I'm a firm believe in the existence of different varieties of intelligance.

Barbara

I'm surprised at the IQ ratings. I wouldn't rate most of these presidents at the genius level, and I agree with Narciso on General Grant.

Perhaps personality characteristics can overcome or enhance an IQ. For example, Oliver Wendell Holmes is said to have described President Franklin D. Roosevelt as "A second-class intellect. But a first-class temperament."

Narciso

Remember he had alger hiss as a clerk, so.

Narciso

Brett baiers book on war time fdr was ok but there wasnt a single mention of alger hiss and yalta was lightly touched on.

Narciso

Well thats a given, he reads the lefty alinski polemics reasonably well, but thats about all.

macthenaif

Given that IQ is whatever an IQ test says it is, nothing more and nothing less, I call BS in the absence of actual IQ test scores. And the correlation between IQ score and executive performance is less than strong .

Narciso

The preview for 1917 looked fairly harrowing like the fiction counterpart to we were once young. What was the point of that war again, why did a generation die in that muddy battlefield of trenches.
