My dream scenario for Prince Andrew:

We interview the Prince and lay it all out to him and his lawyers. We got you cold. You're gonna be making little rocks outta big rocks in Leavenworth.

They go home knowing the boom is being lowered.

Once home, we reach out to the Brits and say 'You know, this is gonna get really messy and is gonna be injurious to our special relationship. To bad there isn't a way to get around this.'

'Come to think of it, you got some peeps over there in GCHQ who were involved in some pretty nasty stuff back during our election in 2016. Maybe if we could get a hold of those peeps it might make sense to let the Prince go for those guys. As long as they gave testimony on who they worked with over here, you could keep the Prince and those GCHQ types and mete out whatever punishment you deem proper back home.'

I can hear the wails of 'Quod Pro Quo' but, all I'd hear is the cries of 'Justice!' from like minded Americans.

Miss Marple:

"Now a threat to a US Senator. This is getting to be more and more like my old mafia cases. They sure do sound like crooks."

That's pretty funny, and absolutely predictable I s'pose, because this week's journolist message is that Trump sounded like a mob boss on the Ukraine call.

Miss M, that sounds suspiciously like the NYT spin on the Horowitz report. Nobody did nothing

For porch and other TXans

You’ll get no quibble from me on that, but what @kyledcheney is selling from the NYSlimes & WaPo, using conveniently venned wording, ain’t gonna fly. Especially from a known fabulist such as Brave, Brave Sir Kyle, noted author of such famous TPM bedtime stories such as “Ben Carson did not get a scholarship.” and “A GOP Congressman bull rushed me on Capitol Hill, when I tried to ask him about the GOP Health Care Plan.”

He speaks Costanza Truthiness to Power.

Can't disagree. I can appreciate how the DOJ doesn't want to open up another can of worms, but golly gee that death looks suspicious!

From the article about the spy sentencing:

Prosecutors did not link Lee to the loss of the agents in court papers or statements.

Hard to know precisely what that construction means, but I sure would like to see them roll up the bastard(s) responsible for the loss of so many of our people in China. Whoever it is deserves a lot longer than the 19 years Mr. Jerry Chun Shing Lee was gifted.

Thread showing Elizabeth Warren did NOT send her children to public school but to private school.

Every once in awhile you run across a thinker so unpredictable, so incoherent, so full of imbecilities, improbabilities and occasional horse sense that simply observing their thought process laid out in pixelated pixels is a thing of awful beauty to behold.
I give you one Matthew Ehret who manages to combine every half baked conspiracy theory and hagiography of Camelot into a strange brew of anti-colonial pot-stickers on an improbable bed of praising Xi and Putin's collaboration in glowing anti-fascist and anti-colonial praise; even staking out Peking's Silk Road duck as not walking, talking or quacking like neo-colonialism.
Just when you think he's made his Bernie bona fides he ridicules the Green New Dealers and praises Trump in his fight against the Deep State.
I urge you to read it as it will be some time before we will witness as convoluted and as incomprehensible a mind, thought process and philosophy as this again.

John Solomon kindly references Lt. Col. Vindman's "service in Iraq". As I deliberately didn't watch the hearings, does anyone know what Vindman did in Iraq?

He was reported to have gotten his purple heart for injuries sustained in an IUD attack by GQ in an article they penned - later amended to injuries sustained in a IED attack.

snorfle... probably about as damaging as Kerry's 'shrapnel' wound. Although, I wouldn't rule out the IUD for preventing his male periods.

Australia’s Westpac. When Melinda posted that I thought $23 million in suspicious transactions is no big deal.

Then I read the article - 23 million transactions is a very big deal.

On a possible "fifth force," somehow it makes sense to me that the number of forces should be an even number. You know an action and reaction kind of thing.

Read that article on JFK. His assassination was a huge marker in my youth (I was 15). A lot of his policies I didn't know about until I got into my 40's and 50's, as I was a child of the Cold War.

Did you know that President Trump was a good friend of JFK Jr? I did not, until long after the plane crash.

I wonder if some of JFK's policies were discussed between Donald Trump and JFK Jr, since there are quite a few that are the same.

President Trump is just a couple of years older than I am, and I can imagine the events of November 22, 1963 made an even larger impression on him than on me, especially if he subsequently became a close friend of the son.

It's interesting to ponder whether those events 56 years ago are affecting this presidency today.

It's Friday night and the President is trolling. Video at the link.

Vindman has a ranger tab. Okay. But after that and during his service he turned out to be a bit of an asshole according to others he served with. Why is that important? Its not. Not ever decorated service membrer is a dye in the wool conservatice patriot who backs Trump.

I give you Admiral McRaven. And he has much company at the flag rank.

I would say that prior to Clenis and Obama, the military was 90% pro-right thinking total patriots. After them it turned south to about 70% . And Flag officers can set the tone for all including subservient officers. It is going to take Trump's full 8 years to restructure the command corp of the military to a non-political fighting force.

I would start at the service academies an the OTS system.

Well that was interesting yikes the cua took care of frantz fanon, thet were all for algerian independence certainly at the ground level.

The notion, that the company was for the pied noirs was a kgb fiction

Pete Hegseth on Twitter: "Overnight, President @realDonaldTrump flew to Dover Air Force Base to honor two fallen US Army helicopter pilots killed in Afghanistan. God bless these men and their families, and the President who reveres them. https://t.co/v...

Jim Eagle

BTW, I am not one to begrudge Vindman's service in a combat zone. You take an IED but brush it off and come back in service, I respect that. My beef with him is to turn your service into some kind of special virtue to disagree with a POTUS policy you have only one acceptance and that is to honor, obey and follow it, soldier.

It is going to take Trump's full 8 years to restructure the command corp of the military to a non-political fighting force.

I hope the President succeeds with that. My guess is that he's moving forward in a number of areas that we don't about - at least not yet.

Wrt the Ranger Tab, I read a comment that said you receive that if you've gone to Ranger School. It doesn't necessarily mean that you've ever been assigned to a Ranger Unit. Do you agree?

JM Hanes

I suppose everybody here has probably read Don Surber today, but I found this a bit depressing (emphasis is mine):

The Washington Examiner reported, "White House counsel Pat Cipollone signaled during a Thursday meeting with key Senate Republicans that Trump has concluded he has more to gain politically from presenting a detailed defense at trial than from no trial at all, said GOP sources familiar with the discussion.

"That decision should shield Senate Republicans from the damaging backlash from the conservative base that might ensue — at the onset of GOP primary season — if Trump demands that they use their 53-seat majority to shield him from an impeachment trial.

"Senate Republicans are relieved, conceding there is not enough support among them to throw out the charges without a trial. 'I think everyone agrees there’s not 51 votes to dismiss before the managers call the case,' Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina told reporters.

"House Democrats are still developing their case against Trump."

I think they're saying they are just against preemptively dismissing the case before it's been made. I don't contend that they ought to do that, but I guess we know why Trump had Romney & Collins over for tea the other day. So who is the 3rd recalcitrant Republican who makes a majority vote impossible? Does Miss Lindsey insist that the Dems deserve their day in court?

Jim Eagle

True. But earning it is not easy, regardless where you end up. I think it is like 80% who earn the tab do not join Ranger battalions, but go back to their force structure. I could be wrong. YMMV.

Lately they changed the measues to accomadate women who wanted to go through the school. Ft. Benning will never be the same. I stop there on my way north when I drive up. Meet a lot of "Ranger school" employees, you might say, who drink more now than they used to:)

So who is the 3rd recalcitrant Republican who makes a majority vote impossible?

Sassehole or Murky.

JM Hanes

When not start with the Secretary of the Navy? What is it with these people who don't understand refuse to accept that it's the President who has the final say?

JM Hanes

I guess whichever one of them it is was just a bridge too far, even for President Trump.

I posted a Twitter thread a day or two ago which was written by a guy who was retired from the military, but had seriously considered re-enlisting because he wanted to serve under a CIC who revered his troops. He had 4 kids, which is why he hadn't.

He spent a lot of lines on Twitter explaining why the troops revere President Trump. That picture is one reason.

Stephanie Nene Not Your Normal Granma

Thanks, JiB.

I'm with Trump on the trial.
Look at how pathetic this thing is when Schiff has the playing field so crooked even he can't stand up on it.
Imagine the fustercluck it will be for the Dems with Trump's guys running the defense. Pelosi will be calling him back channel begging him to call it off.

Which brings me to a question I've been mulleting...no that's something to do with dorky hair or fish...mullering...nope, grinding stuff...mulling! That's it. Died on this day in 1963: "Vaughan Meader's career"
He did have a passing resemblance to JFK

Abbott Vaughn Meader was an American comedian, impersonator, musician, and film actor. Meader began his career as a musician but later found fame in the early 1960s after the release of the 1962 comedy record written and produced by Bob Booker and Earle Doud. The First Family. The album spoofed President John F. Kennedy – who was played by Meader – and became the fastest selling "pre-Beatles" album in history and went on to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1963. At the peak of his popularity, he performed his Kennedy impersonation on variety shows and in nightclubs around the country and was profiled in several magazines.

But hes properly credentialed

C. S. Lewis was by far the best and ultimately most consequential of the three who died on the 22nd lo these many years ago, and he died first, in the early morning, of what was a heart attack or stroke. A giant of the 20th century, and so influential still today.

Indeed, he was predictimg the devils m.o., huxley was describing the therapeutic state.

A cow runs out onto the road, and a limo driving late at night, hits it head on and the car comes to a stop.

The woman in the back seat, in her usual abrasive manner, says to the chauffeur, “You get out and check on that poor cow. You were driving.”
So, the chauffeur gets out, checks, and reports that the animal is dead, but it appeared to be very old.

“Well,” says the woman, “You were driving, so you go and tell the farmer in that lighted farmhouse over there.”

Two hours later, the chauffeur returns totally inebriated, a full belly, his hair ruffled, and a big grin on his face.

“My God, what happened to you?” asks the nasty woman.

The chauffeur replies, “When I got there, the farmer opened his best bottle of single malt scotch, the wife gave me a meal fit for a king, and the daughter made love to me.”

“What on earth did you say?” asks the woman.

I just knocked on the door, and when it opened, I said to them, “I’m Nancy Pelosi’s chauffeur, and I’ve just killed the old cow!”

I look forward to the Horowitz report whatever its conclusions as it's only the first step in the process.

Durham has more investigatory powers than Horowitz. He isn't restricted in talking to people as is Horowitz.

I see the NYT and WaPo are claiming that people won't be accused of "bias." And maybe they shouldn't, as that is a political issue not a legal one. Just point out what was done wrong and leave the why of it for others to look into.

Jim, Sunnyvale,

Our family had the Vaughan Meader record back then. I think my brother bought it. Meader was pretty good at imitating Kennedy, and some of the routines were quite funny.

The track that I liked the best was the one of Mrs. Kennedy giving a tour of the White House to Charles Collingwood. Collingwood asks her to point out the different paintings hanging in the room. She replies, "Well, there's that great big one over there and that little bitty one down here." It was fun stuff. I recall that the President was asked if it amused or annoyed him. He smiled and said Meader sounded more like Teddy, so Teddy was annoyed.

There was another jean from california, we havent heard from her in a long time.

I'm also wondering about how Horowitz will handle the FISA issue. Will he not come to a conclusion, but just lay out what he finds and leave to the FISA court to judge?

I remember reading the whole first report Horowitz did. The summary, as you would expect, didn't contain the full detail of the main body of the report. The body of the report seemed to be mainly a fact-finding and a perusal of what alternatives could have been used at that time. Kind of a retrospective.

I've long believed that about a third of the people hate the country and are a waste of time trying to appeal to. When Romney wrote off a much larger percentage in 2012, and had the enthusiastic backing of some here, I thought it was a far too cynical and defeatist attitude.
