That is the most eye opening video of the violence in Mexico I have ever seen. Incredible courage by the Mormons (mostly Jack Mormons) to live in that godforsaken place.

Thanks for posting.

The idea wasn’t merely to invalidate the patent that Blackbird was using to sue Cloudflare — but to invalidate all of Blackbird’s patents. Cloudlfare declared war.

To its credit, Cloudflare won, too.

Neo, love that Cloudflare won (I am indifferent to Cloudflare otherwise). My dad and his business partner David Friend fought a patent troll and won via Carbonite. Expensive lawsuit, but the troll’s patent was vacated. This after big firms (as in IBM and a dozen others) folded and paid the troll. These trolls are as big s threat to IP as China.

My grandfather had a patent in 1921 for a tennis racket press. I don't think I have to worry about someone stealing that:)

henry

LOL JiB. My grandfather had a patent for smokeless gunpowder (for the artillery, he was at Picatinny Arsenal), signed over to the War Department in 1919.

henry

Another Bob, funny thing. Damn near anything we release could be a patent in current rules. Patent application costs would put me out of business.

Another Bob

I should mention that all of mine are software.

I think maybe four of ‘em are legit... ;)

James D.

JiB, what exactly does a tennis racket press do?

henry

A Bob, cool! The legit software patents rock.

Jack is Back!

jamesD,

Before tennis rackets went to steel and carbon-fibre frames, they were wood, susecptible to warping. You kept it in form by placing in a wooden press where you would tighten the corners down with various applications of tightening methods.

Another Bob

“Damn near anything we release could be a patent in current rules. Patent application costs would put me out of business.”

I’ve gotten out-of-date re. current regulation, as most of my employers for the last 20 years or so have seen the “trade secret” light. But yeah, for one of my disclosures the then-Fortune 50 corporate R&D center (that had a fleet of patent lawyers on the payroll) spent nearly six figures to hire a specialist DC law firm to prosecute it.

Then the costs of defending it...

JiB, glad you liked that video. I found it very fascinating. I can't imagine why those Mormons stay there under these circumstances.

I thought there was an undercurrent of weirdness to the whole thing. First of all they're there to continue to practice polygamy which just gives it a cultish veneer. As does the blood atonement. I don't like saying that because I've interacted with Mormons before who seem to be wonderful people. But Iggy (and Janet iirc) are correct; it's not a Christian religion and their decision to make a stand in a very dangerous setting seems unnecessarily stubborn and driven by something I can't grasp.

"I'm running for U.S. Senate because we have to fight back. Let's go!"

"Let's go?" Sure, now you want to start fighting back! It would have been nice if you'd felt that way when you chaired the Sotomayor appointment hearings, but you apparently decided that it wouldn't be polite to challenge her on any meaningful basis.

That's what first dulled my former enthusiasm for Sessions. He was totally ineffective at leading a charge. I don't think he deliberately undermined Trump, but I also don't think he was ever truly on board. I suspect it took very little to persuade him to recuse himself from anything campaign related. That's not how he wanted to spend his time. He came in with his own law & order agenda, which is why he rejected the Homeland Security spot and asked for the Atty General's job. That sure tells you something about his priorities.

As henry suggested, he supported granting LE and prosecutors all the very powers just begging for abuse, from civil asset forfeiture right own down the line. His approach to the "opioid crisis" was revive the same war-on-drugs methods that have failed so miserably to make a substantive difference for decades. I give him props for going after gangs, but he always struck me as doing his own fiddling while letting Trump burn.

If Sessions gets the nomination, I'm sure Trump will support him, maybe even sooner; it's interesting that Sessions appears to think there's reason he might not. But Trump is dedicated to electing Republicans, even if Republicans are not nearly as dedicated to supporting their own president as they ought to be.
