Wait... a military that spends it's time on gender sensitivity training instead of navigation is not PC crazy? Can I have some of what you were smoking during the Obama years?

From the prev thread:

"I mentioned Fedposting at one point:

...
And they still deserve to be shot.
That's very fucking important.
Some people have replied with "there aren't any Nazis anymore." Guess what? I hate to break it to you: they're in the White House, making policy and getting their sick, twisted ideology made into law."

Where are the camps?
The ones where people like WenSchw are shot.
Not the ones built by Obama which separate illegals from their (claimed) children.

Tom is clearly not hearing the stories out of west point, annapolis, and the air force academy in co. Plus there is all that catering to cair.

Plus the debacle with trying to make all combat positions open to women even if the essence of the requirements had to be substantially 'modified'.

Jim,SunnyvaleCA,USA

If RBG was a conservative:
The NYT/WaPo/CNN would post articles every single day about how she falls asleep in hearings.
Reporters would buy drinks, offer sex and drugs to clerks in order to find out if she does any work. Or if the clerks keep it all going behind closed doors while RBG naps.
Or they'd just make up stories with no evidence.
If RBG was a conservative.

Jack is Back!

TM,

The military leadership has been turned upside down under Clinton & Obama. W was more concerned with wounded warriors than his DoD leadership. Now, Trump is trying to right the ship and create a disciplined military outside the PC culture first inculcated at the Academies. Take McRaven, non-academy, who writes an OpEd without fear of the UMCJ. And in that OpEd challenges Trump's position on using the military to keep America great not to keep Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan rich with terror.

BTW, in regards that cash flow curve of the Clinton Foundation, it tells me that she will run again, if only to squeeze some donor cash while basically doing her usual lazy campaigning.

Narciso

Yes recall the brethren and closed chambers by lazarus, which zeroed in on one of scalias clerks capaccio.

GUS

First and foremost.....our "HOST", is not a Conservative. I don't recall him being verklempt about OBAMA vis a vis BERGDAHL and MANNING. Their behaviors were ANTI-AMERICAN to the EXTREME.
Obama stepping in was WONDERFUL back then.
The NAVY, SPENCER in particular did not want to act in the MANNER that their CiC directed. BEEEEEEEEEEEG MISTAKE. But simply put, OBAMA ruined large portions of the MILITARY COMMAND.
Did I mention that our "HOST" is not in any way Conservative???

Jim,SunnyvaleCA,USA

For the historians out there, has the current Dem pattern occurred in the GOP in the last, say, 100 years?
They have many candidates, but so weak politically and intellectually that with one year to go before election (and mere months to go before crucial primaries), major new mostly wealthy self-funding candidates step forward (Steyer, Bloomberg plus penniless Deval Patrick) or are rumored as 'might step forward' ((Hillary, Michelle, Oprah)?

Has this happened in the GOP in living memory? I can't think of a time, the Dem clown car campaign seems historically extraordinary.

Another Bob

TM: “ I don't normally think of the military as overcome with PC”

I’d normally let that pass with an eyeroll, but dammit TM you’re simply not paying attention. At. All. The military is a swamp unto itself.

TM: “nor is Trump a model of calm, judicious reflection.”

And that’s just a lazy strawman.

Gallagher’s treatment seems to bear some hallmarks of some ambitious O-5 or O-6 disliking him and looking to make points by feeding an exaggerated story to the chain. Then the flag lions start roaring only to remind everyone they’re the lions.

I can easily see some admirals thinking they needed to remind the SEALs who’s in charge, and if Gallagher was ruined in the process, well that’s the cost of their idea of “good order”.

Was any officer charged in relation to these events?

Narciso

It came from some squabbies who were upset over boot camp but it was rubberstanped by some superiors.

MissMarple2

I agree with Jack.

I posted a Twitter thread by a career military guy some days ago in which he explained how much the enlisted guys and junior officers LOVE President Trump.

They consider that he actually cares about them and they have seen improvement in pay, equipment, medical care (both in military hospitals and the VA) and more intelligent use of troop deployment.

To have someone publicly dispute him as the former Navy Secretary did is not acceptable, and had he not done something there would have been more public spouting off by Obama-era types. That simply cannot be allowed.

GUS

Do we have our first TRANNIE Navy Sec yet??
Now would be the appropriate time.
It would be so "judicious" and such.

MissMarple2

I have to dispute the "Nor a model of calm, judicious reflection" insult in a separate post.

President Trump did NOT fire all of the ambassadors immediately like President Obama did.

He has put up with the 2-year Mueller investigation and this sham impeachment without much more than some Twitter insults.

He has managed to accomplish a lot of things including tax reductions, prison reform, and relative peace in the Middle East.

He answers FAR more press questions than President Obama ever did.

Last night he, Melania, and Barron were at his hotel in DC, and he stopped to shake many hands while people applauded them. He seems very calm and friendly to me. (I posted a link to the video at the end of the last thread.)

The level of attacks he has tolerated would have broken any other president. I consider him exceptionally patient!

Deplorable Don Surber, I saw this linked at Insty but checkout the details noted by Don.
https://donsurber.blogspot.com/2019/11/highlights-of-news_25.html

"The China Law Blog reports on the kinds of questions that western businesses operating in China are raising; China's serious economic downturn and rising authoritarianism (snip)

"A new post on the site describes the consequences of a sharp downturn in the Chinese economy: a new mood among many Chinese businesspeople that they are at the end of the long Chinese boom and that there's no reason not to burn their bridges with non-Chinese firms, because they're not going to be doing business with them for much longer no matter what."

The story said, "Western firms hiring Chinese manufacturers find themselves taking delivery of junk that is totally unlike the samples they received before placing their main orders; discovering that their trademarks have been registered in China by their manufacturers (which means they can't change suppliers, since the crooked manufacturer now owns the exclusive right to produce their products); finding that their manufacturers have disappeared (or that they never existed in the first place); and claims by Sinosure, the Chinese state-owned insurer that is supposed to protect Chinese manufacturers who've been stiffed by foreign partners, have exploded, as the insurer's foreign offices file legal claims against Western businesses that are having disputes with manufacturers."

Maybe in hindsight it was an unforced error to not fire all the Obama attorneys and ambassadors.

JiB, you asked last night about experience in giving a car as XMAS gift. One year I gave my wife a “new”, used AUDI A4 cabriolet. Lots of considerations for me. Sorta like our money to begin with so is it really a gift? She would have said no if asked. Stopped at the dealership on our way home from work. Surprise! Red bow. She drove it home in snow flurries with the top down and heat cranked (Wisconsin late Dec).

I talked to the husband of a friend yesterday and that is his opinion. The thing kicks on every 5 minutes, runs for a minute or two, and then goes off. Sometimes it doesn't kick on at all, then it will go through that on-off cycle for an hour.

PRESIDENT TRUMP loves the Navy in particular, and all services more generally.
Often when a guest in the Whitehouse, you'll see him with the Navy flag behind. President Trump is more 'image aware' than any president, ever. There's a message here, but the Nav doesn't have its receivers on. For example:

--As to the wisdom of Trump exerting his power as Commander-in-Chief and disrupting the normal system of military justice--

Gallagher was sentenced in July. He was at the stage now where other completely discretionary disciplines might or might not be enforced. Trump as CiC is part of that process and so there was nothing disruptive or even particularly abnormal for the top dog to prevent a lower dog from biting someone.
Among the enlisted especially, the enforcement of the UCMJ has never been considered particularly fair or non-arbitrary. In the last couple of decades of lawfare and fastidious PC prosecutions over sexual harassment and Islamic niceties it is rightly despised as a club for enforcing unserious and arbitrary political bullshit.

MissMarple2

Jim,

The last time I remember a lot of democrat candidates was in 1960. Seems like there were 6 or so and Kennedy ended up winning. That is the closest to the situation they have now, and most of the dems then (although I was only in the 7th grade) seemed more normal.

I cannot see how any of these misfits can defeat President Trump, and that includes both Biden and Bloomberg. He will roll over either in the debates like a steamroller.

A basic safe boating course teaches who has the right of way when two vessels meet in a crossing situation. Briefly, the rule states that any vessel approaching yours from dead ahead, say 12:00 o'clock to about 22 1/2 degrees abaft the starboard beam or roughly 4:00 o'clock is called the stand on vessel and must maintain her course and speed so the give way vessel, your vessel, knows exactly what the stand on vessel will do. I hope that makes sense.

Take a look at where the Fitzgerald was hit.

I think the Dems thought Biden was their "safe" establishment play, and letting the other libtards mouth off for a while was harmless.

Then the Hunter fiasco happens and the libtards run the train off the track, and their play went from OK, to gloomy, to really dark.

I don't think Steyer, Bloomberg or Patrick will get many excited.

Curb Dive will of course offer herself up as the savior if no strong potential candidate emerges.

MissMarple2

Jim,

The closest we had to this was 2016, when we had all of those candidates besides President Trump.

Of course all of the experts had picked Jeb, Cruz, or Walker but week after week, Donald Trump held center stage with the highest poll numbers.

That idea of rallies and collecting data from those who signed up was sheer genius. And let me tell you something, the rallies are FUN, which is something else the democrats haven't figured out.

As far as I know, last election was the most candidates we have ever had for the GOP. Usually there are 2-3, all expected to run for some time before they announced, and all pretty much boring. W had more personality than his dad, but look at who his campaign manager was! Mr. Boring himself, Karl Rove, who seems to have disappeared.

Interesting stuff to think about.

From the last thread...

Interesting: "Leveraging data from the American National Election Study, I demonstrate that the terms 'liberal' and 'conservative' are unfamiliar to many black Americans, rendering the commonly used 7-point liberal-conservative measure of ideology invalid for this population."

This reminds of something a Poli Sci professor told the class about public opinion polling over 30 years ago. The professor said you won't ever see a public opinion poll that breaks down education/income level by party affiliation. Instead the breakdown will always be using conservative and liberal labels.
The professor said it was a standard tactic for leftwing media organizations to count blacks as conservatives for any poll focusing on education levels, intelligence, income, etc. Since blacks historically have lower education levels than whites this allowed the leftwing media to create the narrative that liberals were more intelligent than conservatives. The justification is that since most blacks were Christians and opposed to homosexuality that made them social conservatives even though they almost always voted Democrat.

Maybe not in terms of priorities. Trump was an outsider with plenty of people, including his own party, wanting him to fail. His first order of business was making sure the essentials, like social security checks, continued without a high exposure hitch. Which they did.
