It's not that we are afraid of opposing views, they are just so poorly constructed as to be useless.

jim nj, I have no fear of creating a red bubble, as all I need to do is turn on my local NPR station at the top of the hour, and get their version of what they want reality to be in less than ten minute's time. I can look at my local newspaper, and even the "news" from WSJ, and get the same.
Flip on any one of the alphabet broadcasting networks, 24/7, or CNN.

But I don't have to do any of that, as I already know--no matter what the breaking news is, OrangeManBad.

That post of VDH thoughts at 10:50 on how obvious the hate has been made, is spot on. It's not just "our side"--even LIV Independents can see it, thanks to the hearings.

[will wait for confirmation, elsewhere]

Adam Schiff on the Sunday news show, saying that he was not going to be making any impeachment decisions on his own, tells me that he took some beatings between Friday night and Sunday morning.

That puts a smile on my face:)

jim nj: "It's not that we are afraid of opposing views, they are just so poorly constructed as to be useless."

When I read jim's post about opposing, I thought 'how interesting' because so much of the time I will read here on jom, as well as a few other sites, that the democrats are in trouble (or words to that effect). At the same time all I see in my 'real world' is rage and hatred for President Trump's policies. Every local television station reports the news with an 'orange man bad' slant. The chyrons that run across he bottom of newscasts use disparaging adjectives and adverbs for any policy or daily agenda of the president's. The Tulsa World runs the AP stories full of distortions and lies; and, their opinion pages are full of hate. The Letters To The Editor pages are filled every day with rants about President Trump. I sometimes wonder how average citizens can maintain the level of hate these Democratic voters seem filled with. It's crazy.

The only thing I can figure out is perhaps this viciousness stands out because it's so unusual. Normal people, hopefully, have turned aside after realizing that the hatred for the president is sick and twisted and don't want to engage with dementia except to vote. I hope so anyway.

Do you think there will be another market rally, or is this just confirmation of what the street already knew?

Headline trading bots are set in binary mode for this subject, it seems. So I would expect a bid all day. Even though the FinPress can’t reason it’s way past wet Kleenex on the subject.

Will Black Friday cope with Trump’s trade tariffs?

Greetings from London, where the election campaign is putting a serious dampener on any festive feelings in the run-up to Christmas. In the US, though, the holiday season is under way. Black Friday — the discounted shopping day after Thanksgiving when consumers go wild for bargains — is in full swing.

But there’s a trade angle here, which we will be exploring in today’s post: why are President Donald Trump’s tariffs not showing up more in consumer prices? Our chart of the day shows falling imports with a Thanksgiving theme from China, while our policy watch looks at the latest developments in the US, Mexico and Canada trade treaty.

Don’t forget to click here if you’d like to receive Trade Secrets every Monday to Thursday. And we want to hear from you. Send any thoughts to trade.secrets@ft.com, or email me at delphine.strauss@ft.com.

‘Walmart announces great numbers. No impact from Tariffs…’
Black Friday is in full swing online. Soon, people will be queueing up for the in-store doorbuster deals. But in the frenzy of seasonal discounting, there is a puzzle for economists: why the effects of Trump’s tariffs are not showing up more in consumer prices.

Since the start of September, US importers have been paying tariffs not only on the intermediate goods targeted in the earlier stages of the trade war, but on almost 70 per cent of “final goods” from China, including clothes and shoes, kitchenware and televisions. Since mid-October, European delicacies such as French wine and Italian cheese have also been subject to import duties.

But there is little sign yet that the tariffs imposed this autumn have fed through to households. US inflation edged up to a modest 1.8 per cent in October largely due to higher energy costs, while clothing prices fell sharply. And although retailers in the US, as elsewhere, are struggling to adapt to online competition, tariffs appear more an irritant than a serious challenge to the major chains."

Illiteracy. Tariffs are financed at the point of departure, by the selling country. If you try and pass it on to the consumer, it just makes the tariff higher, which means THAT won't work. So, try again...

Ok, maybe proofing IS your friend. Sorry about that.

MM-yesterday's coat was Dolce & Gabbana.

Just finished cornbread so it can begin to dry out.

Since bro is still not speaking to me, it will be an interesting Thanksgiving. Since I will be the only one there with all my children he can ignore me and chat with them. The good news though is my sis has taken up sneering at me by phone since she thinks they have become allies and outnumber me. I don't really understand how people in their 50s get stuck acting like such children.

I don't know if I mentioned it here but I asked my dad (who doesn't know me) if he would like a Thanksgiving banner for his door to make it festive. He said yes, which is a lot for him and all November all the residents walk the halls and comment on the turkey that says Gobble! Gobble!

Lots of joy for $10 and plenty of conversation anytime a worker took him back to his room. So I asked yesterday as we were taking him back if he wanted a Christmas banner to replace the turkey after Thanksgiving. He loudly said Yes.

Ordered it yesterday. As I told a worker after I ordered him some fragrant lotion that she liked, if all you have left is sensory perception you need vibrant experiences--visual, olfactory, taste, music.

I think some of the dementia patients though were whole word readers as several thought the sign said Google! Google!

Have a wonderful trip and Happy Thanksgiving!

What a wonderful story about your dad!

We have never had feuds in my family. Maybe it's because we beat the crap out of each other when we were kids. LOL!

That Aussie WestPac money laundering case? Well, the CEO said over the weekend that it was "No big deal." and he'd be staying on. Turns out, part of the 23 million illegal transactions were involving "Child Exploitation", so he's resigned.

I think these propagandists don't get that is becoming apparent to all of us who have had real jobs that there is somebody who ends up being able to make the final call. We area Republic, with an Executive. Barr's excellent speech to the Federalist Society lays it all out.
Even in my very democratically run group, the guy at the top often has to make a call with polling the rest of us.

Like the testimony at the hearings, this stuff is simply showing how clueless and far removed from the real world these people are.

You know, I wonder if I live on the edge of one of those "Opportunity Zones." I have seen a sudden increase in construction and rehab in buildings and vacant lots.

This would be good if we got some more businesses along the major street 5 blocks west of our neighborhood. All that we have now are 2 diners, a liquor store, and about 5 used car lots.

We have Frederick down for Thanksgiving. A full week plus a day.

He and I work out together at our fitness center then we do driver training. We record his hours, day and night driving, and practice a number of skills required here in Florida for his road test which will be in March. He's doing well and has over 25 hours in the bank already.

More to follow during Christmas break which is two weeks of driving:) He doesn't like the SUV but prefers Mrs. JiB's 2004 Beemer cabriolet which he gets to keep as a present once he passes his road test. Can't have it at Canterbury but he'll be the cat's meow when he is down here.

We want a do over!

House Democrats have done a masterful job of holding hearings with testimony from distinguished diplomatic and national security witnesses on the alleged quid pro quo that President Trump sought from Ukraine. The problem is that the record is incomplete and conflicted on critical points. The question is whether Democrats want a real or a recreational impeachment. A real impeachment case can be made, but to make it, they will have to reschedule, reframe, and repeat their House investigation

For example, one Intelligence Analyst told us that he was permitted to recommend a CHS receive a polygraph or operational test to the handling agent by phone but not permitted to document the recommendation in the CHS's validation report. Additionally, multiple FBI officials told us that they believe that field offices do not want negative information documented in a CHS file due to criminal discovery concerns and concerns about the CHS's ability to testify. For example, one FBI official told us that some U.S. Attorney's offices will not use a CHS at trial if there is negative documentation in the CHS's file.

I don't even pay attention to local politics anymore. I went to the town meeting to vote on a different issue, whether or not the town would provide trash pickup or maintain private services. The plastic bag issue is just plain nuts.

They might as well abandon prop 2 1/2 because every time my town wants something, the voters cave and vote to override it anyway. We've given them a new police station, a new fire station, a new dpw building, a new HS (10 years ago) a refurbished regional vocational HS, a new middle school and I'm sure I'm forgetting something.
