I wonder if Tom R has finished watching Star Wars?

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

I forget, are you catholic?--

The real question Maryrose is, is the Pope Catholic?
Well, me neither. :)

Blowout in Leicester.

Donald J. Trump
“Nasdaq Hits 9,000 for First Time Ever”

I can't help but think how proud Andrew Breitbart would be to see his web site linked by President Trump.

Captain Hate

Welp I can't read the link but Erik Wemple is surely generating a lot of REEEEEEEEEEE comments from the WaPo/Ralph fanbase.

Anyone hear from Greasy Bill Kristol lately???

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

A little more seriously Maryrose, I belong to no denomination or sect. I am not Protestant or Catholic and I sure as heck am not orthodox.

I am the slave of He who was tortured and murdered on the cross for the wrongs that I have done and will yet do and who became sin in order to exchange my sins for His righteousness so that I might be the righteousness of God in Him.
I call no man on earth father or teacher for my Father is in heaven and there is only one Teacher, the Christ and His Spirit; Matthew 23:9-10 and John 14:26.
I don't look to man for the truth because the Spirit of Christ leads me into all Truth; John 16:13.

Other than that I'm pretty flexible. :)

Very nice Ig, very nice!!! I am Catholic, and I pray for the POPE. He does not represent me well.

The local radio guys, Hammer and Nigel, are going ballistic over the Virginia gun confiscation effort.

I didn't think states could infringe on the Bill of Rights.

Proselytize. ... The word proselytize can specifically refer to religious evangelism, as in: "Proselytizing is a fundamental component of...." Proselytize, however, can also be used for any situation when people are trying to convince others to try something or to join something.

Converting to a religious faith from none or another differs by degree from being prossed. Convert status might well be assigned or claimed by either individual making the switch. But proselytizing is a sales process. Converts throughout history were often convinced at the end of a spear.

Jim Eagle

Jr. gave me a couple of cool books for Christmas.

First one is "American Racing", a collaboration between photojournalist Tom Burnside and Denise McCluggage.

Covers road racing in the 50s and 60s. Big coffee table book, with probably a thousand pictures, of course all B&W.

Ever hear of track named Brynfan Tyddyn in Pennsylvania? I hadn't.

I met Denise years ago at Elkhart Lake, sad to discover that she passed in 2015.

The other book is "History of the Grand Prix Car 1966-1985. Just about as big and almost as many pictures, but most in color.

Biggest focus of the book is the dominance of the Ford-Cosworth DFV, but also the adoption of wings, monocoque construction, and early use of carbon fiber.

He found them in an old book store

this netflix MESSIAH movie promises to be a travesty. surprise.

well said, Ignatius. D:

This article includes, at the end, the two tweets President Trump made about Blakeman's comments this morning.

In addition, I had the Dan Bongino pod cast on and he felt that Brennan was really sweating because he was the one who had orchestrated all of this spy stuff on Trump.

Kev, I agree about that movie and am not interested.

Jim Eagle

Brynfan Tyddyn is Welsh for "Farm on the hilltop". Those were hill climbing races, if memory serves me correctly. Near Wilkes Barre, PA.

They only ran in the mid-50's. Don't ask me how I know but as a kid in of all places Newfoundland, a young 1st Louie who reported to my Dad had photos to show me of him racing that hill. Tom Gee of Wyoming.

Odd that you brought that up, Buckeye.

Good afternoon! The daughter and son-in-law are heading down to Naples to spend a few days with his parents. While they were here, they got us hooked on watching "The Great British Baking Show." The son-in-law spent hours in the kitchen baking an orange cake with orange curd frosting for Christmas dessert. The smell of the citrus was heavenly. We have the leftovers. :)

Marlene - My daughter and I love the Great British Bake-Off shows - especially the older ones with Mary Berry. I received a Mary Berry cookbook last year. The orange cake sounds delicious!

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Denise McCluggage was one of my earthly heroes, Buckeye. I first noticed her when I was about nine and my family used to get these superb quarterly books, The American Sportsman, companions to the great TV show of the same name. She had an article in one in 1968 about the brand new Lamborghini Miura and her writing was the wry, conversational, good natured type that is more like an afternoon with a good friend than reading of a stranger's escapades in a book.
Charles F Waterman, a little known but superb hunting and fishing writer was just the same type.
She was an accomplished racer and a real force of nature and participated in and chronicled the golden age of American road racing.
One of the most valuable cars in the world is the primrose yellow NART Spyder, the first one ever built, that she and 'Pinky' Rollo [whatever her first name was] drove to second in class at Sebring. Pretty sure that's the same car that is seen briefly in The Thomas Crown Affair.
Her like will not come again.

The book suggested the track was used for road racing in 56 and 57 only.

Before my time and the name completely flummoxed me, given the title of the book.

I read a bit more a discovered the name came from a nearby farm.

Bet the family was Welch:)

We watched quite a few TCM movies yesterday, including an anthology of O.Henry stories hosted by John Steinbeck. Last night "The Thin Man" was on and the daughter watched it,although I fell asleep. Fun fact,Asta was the most popular Hollywood dog pre-Toto and Lassie. The daughter said she got lost in Wikipedia hell looking up the actor William Powell. She said,"he was married to Carole Lombard for a hot minute."
When the movie started,I told her that Maureen O'Sullivan was Jane in the Tarzan movies and Mia Farrow's mother. We also watched "Little Women" with Katherine Hepburn as Jo. I'm such a crybaby,it doesn't matter which remake of "Little Women",I always cry when Beth dies.

I noticed some talk in the other thread about cooking a rib roast. Rather than go by time per pound, a more exacting method is to use a remote temperature probe that avoids having to open the oven door and letting the heat out before the roast is done. I use one of these, which shows a graph on my phone, allowing me to estimate the time it'll reach the target temperature based on the slope of the graph. It's a little expensive, but pretty handy for any kind of roasting or braising.

My dad was a maintenance man and not a janitor, since he supervised them. My father repaired and serviced things like boilers and the cafeteria equipment. The janitors cleaned the restrooms and mopped the halls.

As near as I can determine about Warren, she always tries to portray herself as some impoverished, oppressed person in order to attract the attention of the snowflakes.

Comment from Twitter:

Welsh, drank too much grape juice as a kid:)

I agree that Ignatz is well said. I think that there are many practicing Christians out there who belong to no organized church. But they know that at the end of their temporal life, there will be a reckoning. It does tend to keep those folks on the straight and narrow--without the intervention of the local priest, reverend, deacon, padre or whomever.

Now a cynic, or atheist might argue that there is no God and it's all a buncha superstition etc.

But a betting man, even if not convinced that God actually exists, might want to lead an honest and upright life because why take a chance?

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

The name sounds vaguely familiar, Buckeye, so I have probably run across it at some point but I had to look it up to see what it was.
According to the article the hillclimb was nearby but Brynfan Tyddyn was a road race around a lake.

The number of things JiB has some connection to is mind boggling; he's like a real life Zelig or Forrest Gump. You expect to see him in the background of every picture of a historical event of the last 60 or so years. :)

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--using 31% less insulin during the same period--

I thought you were off the insulin, KK.
Did all these health issues piling on top of one another put you back over the insulin edge?

So, several FEMA officials in Puerto Rico arrested for corruption and bribery proving Trump was right.

That must be why this story has been relegated to the obscure web sites.

Re that Bill and Hillary Christmas pic on the last thread @3:10, someone on Twitter pointed out: “Even the tree is crooked.”

And for Bill we know that “crooked” has multiple layers of meaning. :)

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

There are millions of upright, honest people in hell. And heaven is chock full of liars, whoremongers, thieves, drunks, tax collectors and, reportedly, at least one lawyer, though I consider the claim extremely dubious and perhaps even in poor taste.
There is none who is righteous, no not one, which is why we need a savior. :)

Ig, that is an incomplete quote of Pope Francis's remarks. If you read what he said in its entirity, you will see he says we convert others by the life we lead, by our example, not by jaw-jawing.

And you know what--on this I am in agreement with the Marxist.

Jim Eagle

How many schools did you attend before you graduated, Iggy?

Me: 14. 3 I my Freshman year. Part of touring the world with an Air Force family. You learn a lot and meet interesting people.

Wait until I tell you about playing high school football with a QB named Roger Staubach:)

Those arrests were from last September, but I extremely doubt they will be the last.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

I saw you mention that the other day in passing JiB.

And for the record I darkened one and only one school's doorway in my high school career.
They have yet to live it down.

Well, they showed up on an obscure web site and were unknown to me. Sorry.

I do notice that the MSM have quit running stories on Puerto Rico corruption. Can't imagine why.

Redsteeze left Chuck Todd and said he was a liar.

People like me just left. Todd's opinion is worthless.

Ig...i was off insulin for 14 months until the osteomyelitis case infecting the spine. that infection triggered a blood sugar spike to 665.

back into blood sugar hell. the endocarditis was the infected blood valve that triggered the infection of the spine and then, last summer, the infection of the clavicle joint.

at the time of the mitral valve surgery my A1C was at a whopping 12.1 with inflammation markers off the charts. i am now at 7.5 after the surgery with inflammation markers near 0 (as measured by blood tests).

i'm anticipating reversal 2.0 by end of July 2020 and no insulin. a little slower going that the more radical 1.0 from Patagonia AZ in 2016.

"And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."

"Preach the gospel constantly; using words if necessary."

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Good for you, KK.
What a gauntlet you have run.
Thank goodness it happened after you had turned things around or you wouldn't have survived that set of hurdles.

This is a really good column. He makes the point that Trump just doesn't talk, he walks.

And although it isn't mentioned in this column, I think Ben Carson is a pretty good judge of character, and gave President Trump a ringing endorsement.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--"Preach the gospel constantly; using words if necessary."--

Yeah, a fallible man said that or something near it.
God said the one I quoted and he didn't say "mime it", so I'm going with his version.

matt - deplore me if you must

The Church was built upon proselytization. From the time of Christ himself, preaching in the streets has been a part of its DNA.

How many people have been converted? Millions? Billions?

The only reason there is Christianity in China and much of the rest of the world is proselytization?

We are charged to proclaim the good news, after all.

We don't have to go about it loudly or forcefully, but we can engage and discuss and reason. We can share our faith.

The Pope just sold out Christianity in China and the CCP is proclaiming its own gospel.

The Argentine has crossed into apostasy.

I had to quit following Pope Francis on Twitter, because all he did was scold. Not once did I ever see praise for an order of sisters, or a priest who had done something heroic.

I have not seen Pope Francis preach the Gospel by actions. Thus, I am still disaffected.

Um, you do know when the gospels were written, right?
Like, we aren't talking transcriptions here.
This may well be where Catholics depart from "Christians."

Mark Steyn blasts CBC for cutting Trump's 3 second appearance out of "Home Alone 2".

A quote from the story:

"“I think they’re actually terrified that people will remember that before [Trump] was the new Hitler, he was a beloved mainstream cultural figure,” according to Steyn."

You're right, Iggy. First came the medical/health/spiritual education in Patagonia. Then came the near death consequences of clearing a 62 year old body of decades of shit food, addiction, debilitating stressors, and many varieties of pain absorbed and stored.

Then came the reckoning with the infected valve. Nutrition was the key to preparing the body for that challenge and beyond. without the lessons fr Patagonia i would have been without control of the only thing within my power to control--- the medicine that is food.

rollin away the stone, baby.

Some wacky conspiracists in the comments, but it's a good question.

From the initial CTH review of Page he always seemed to be a tool. Something akin to a disposable syringe. The viral agent in the syringe is important; the motives of those using the syringe obviously important; but Page himself seemed disposable to the sharps bag.

Maybe that’s the wrong way to look at him.

The Roman Catholic Church.

Proselytization at the end of a spear. The Romans didn't feed Catholics to lions. They sentenced christians.

no way did Christ proselytize. that was more his apostles' speed. 2 examples: The Our Father and The Sermon on the Mount.

"preach" in modern parlance implies proselytization as sterotyped by southern ministers or snake throwin Baptists. then there are the men and women of the cloth who hear "preach" as "pray and reach."

I don’t know what to think about CPage, ext.

In days gone by, if you worked in one of the “right” industries, and had a personal or business reason to regularly travel to one of the “right” countries, you got a discreet communication from someone official who would politely ask some questions about your travels. Page seems like one of those guys.

No idea if that still happens.

Revelation 22:18,19: For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Yeah, who knows, Bob. Carter Page was obviously an excuse to spy on other people via the two-hop rule. It's kind of amazing that people aren't screaming about how one FISA can net 25,000 people's data via that rule - emails, texts, phone calls, banking records and more.

Will we ever know who else was spied on as a result of the Carter Page FISA? How can people not be suing by now?

“one FISA can net 25,000 people's data“

Beyond the almost-beyond-belief amount of political corruption, that is THE issue.

Who invented the “two hop” rule and the other definitions that made that possible anyway? Let’s put that head on a pike. Along with those of whatever judges agreed to it.

Isn't Susan Rice, who did all of those unmaskings, married to an ABC executive?

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--not as a citizen but as a refugee--

He was a citizen of Roman occupied Israel.
They only became refugees later upon Herod's slaughter of the innocents [currently a sacred Dem sacrament I believe] and returned upon Herod's death.

Been thinking about something:

As you know, the dems have a plan to bring up refugees and settle them in certain states so that those states get more electoral votes.

I have run across a few stories where GOP governors are asking for refugees, and of course people are going nuts and calling them turncoats and such.

What if those governors are asking for refugees so as to DILUTE the settlement in any one state? For example, if California was going to ask for 50,000 but Tennessee got half of those, it would depress California's claim to an increased electoral vote while augmenting Tennessee's.

I think it is worth considering.

Compares and contrasts BoJo and Pope Che.

"Church Militant contrasted Boris Johnson’s Christmas Message with the one given by pope Francis.
Johnson’s address was mostly upbeat, talking about the birth of Jesus Christ, but also about the persecution of Christians and how he, as Prime Minister, would work to end it.
Francis’, on the other hand, was anything but joyous speaking to the Roman Curia a few days prior to Christmas. He took the opportunity – as he often does – to attack people, in this case traditional Catholics, whom he labeled “rigid” and “imbalanced.”"

They fled into egypt which was also a roman territory.

How is this different than say the jesus seminar

The Pope is a heretic. It is a very sad thing to say, but evidently true. To gainsay the Great Commission--madness! Ends of the earth, God save us. Think of those who died in hideousness to proclaim the Gospel where they were not welcome--he has defamed them all. He is, I very sorry to say, not worthy. I speak, admittedly, as an Episcopalian, another very unworthy church (as OL would be the first to note).
