Happy Boxing Day! And in this corner, the WaPo's own Erik Wemple laces 'em up and lands some haymakers on Rachel Maddow's See No Evil coverage of the Steele dossier.
Rachel Maddow rooted for the Steele dossier to be true. Then it fell apart.

A little more seriously Maryrose, I belong to no denomination or sect. I am not Protestant or Catholic and I sure as heck am not orthodox.
I am the slave of He who was tortured and murdered on the cross for the wrongs that I have done and will yet do and who became sin in order to exchange my sins for His righteousness so that I might be the righteousness of God in Him.
I call no man on earth father or teacher for my Father is in heaven and there is only one Teacher, the Christ and His Spirit; Matthew 23:9-10 and John 14:26.
I don't look to man for the truth because the Spirit of Christ leads me into all Truth; John 16:13.
Other than that I'm pretty flexible. :)

Proselytize. ... The word proselytize can specifically refer to religious evangelism, as in: "Proselytizing is a fundamental component of...." Proselytize, however, can also be used for any situation when people are trying to convince others to try something or to join something.
Converting to a religious faith from none or another differs by degree from being prossed. Convert status might well be assigned or claimed by either individual making the switch. But proselytizing is a sales process. Converts throughout history were often convinced at the end of a spear.

Iggy
Jr. gave me a couple of cool books for Christmas.
First one is "American Racing", a collaboration between photojournalist Tom Burnside and Denise McCluggage.
Covers road racing in the 50s and 60s. Big coffee table book, with probably a thousand pictures, of course all B&W.
Ever hear of track named Brynfan Tyddyn in Pennsylvania? I hadn't.
I met Denise years ago at Elkhart Lake, sad to discover that she passed in 2015.
The other book is "History of the Grand Prix Car 1966-1985. Just about as big and almost as many pictures, but most in color.
Biggest focus of the book is the dominance of the Ford-Cosworth DFV, but also the adoption of wings, monocoque construction, and early use of carbon fiber.
He found them in an old book store

Brynfan Tyddyn is Welsh for "Farm on the hilltop". Those were hill climbing races, if memory serves me correctly. Near Wilkes Barre, PA.
They only ran in the mid-50's. Don't ask me how I know but as a kid in of all places Newfoundland, a young 1st Louie who reported to my Dad had photos to show me of him racing that hill. Tom Gee of Wyoming.
Odd that you brought that up, Buckeye.

Good afternoon! The daughter and son-in-law are heading down to Naples to spend a few days with his parents. While they were here, they got us hooked on watching "The Great British Baking Show." The son-in-law spent hours in the kitchen baking an orange cake with orange curd frosting for Christmas dessert. The smell of the citrus was heavenly. We have the leftovers. :)

Denise McCluggage was one of my earthly heroes, Buckeye. I first noticed her when I was about nine and my family used to get these superb quarterly books, The American Sportsman, companions to the great TV show of the same name. She had an article in one in 1968 about the brand new Lamborghini Miura and her writing was the wry, conversational, good natured type that is more like an afternoon with a good friend than reading of a stranger's escapades in a book.
Charles F Waterman, a little known but superb hunting and fishing writer was just the same type.
She was an accomplished racer and a real force of nature and participated in and chronicled the golden age of American road racing.
One of the most valuable cars in the world is the primrose yellow NART Spyder, the first one ever built, that she and 'Pinky' Rollo [whatever her first name was] drove to second in class at Sebring. Pretty sure that's the same car that is seen briefly in The Thomas Crown Affair.
Her like will not come again.

We watched quite a few TCM movies yesterday, including an anthology of O.Henry stories hosted by John Steinbeck. Last night "The Thin Man" was on and the daughter watched it,although I fell asleep. Fun fact,Asta was the most popular Hollywood dog pre-Toto and Lassie. The daughter said she got lost in Wikipedia hell looking up the actor William Powell. She said,"he was married to Carole Lombard for a hot minute."
When the movie started,I told her that Maureen O'Sullivan was Jane in the Tarzan movies and Mia Farrow's mother. We also watched "Little Women" with Katherine Hepburn as Jo. I'm such a crybaby,it doesn't matter which remake of "Little Women",I always cry when Beth dies.

I noticed some talk in the other thread about cooking a rib roast. Rather than go by time per pound, a more exacting method is to use a remote temperature probe that avoids having to open the oven door and letting the heat out before the roast is done. I use one of these, which shows a graph on my phone, allowing me to estimate the time it'll reach the target temperature based on the slope of the graph. It's a little expensive, but pretty handy for any kind of roasting or braising.

I agree that Ignatz is well said. I think that there are many practicing Christians out there who belong to no organized church. But they know that at the end of their temporal life, there will be a reckoning. It does tend to keep those folks on the straight and narrow--without the intervention of the local priest, reverend, deacon, padre or whomever.
Now a cynic, or atheist might argue that there is no God and it's all a buncha superstition etc.
But a betting man, even if not convinced that God actually exists, might want to lead an honest and upright life because why take a chance?

Ig...i was off insulin for 14 months until the osteomyelitis case infecting the spine. that infection triggered a blood sugar spike to 665.
back into blood sugar hell. the endocarditis was the infected blood valve that triggered the infection of the spine and then, last summer, the infection of the clavicle joint.
at the time of the mitral valve surgery my A1C was at a whopping 12.1 with inflammation markers off the charts. i am now at 7.5 after the surgery with inflammation markers near 0 (as measured by blood tests).
i'm anticipating reversal 2.0 by end of July 2020 and no insulin. a little slower going that the more radical 1.0 from Patagonia AZ in 2016.

The Church was built upon proselytization. From the time of Christ himself, preaching in the streets has been a part of its DNA.
How many people have been converted? Millions? Billions?
The only reason there is Christianity in China and much of the rest of the world is proselytization?
We are charged to proclaim the good news, after all.
We don't have to go about it loudly or forcefully, but we can engage and discuss and reason. We can share our faith.
The Pope just sold out Christianity in China and the CCP is proclaiming its own gospel.
The Argentine has crossed into apostasy.

You're right, Iggy. First came the medical/health/spiritual education in Patagonia. Then came the near death consequences of clearing a 62 year old body of decades of shit food, addiction, debilitating stressors, and many varieties of pain absorbed and stored.
Then came the reckoning with the infected valve. Nutrition was the key to preparing the body for that challenge and beyond. without the lessons fr Patagonia i would have been without control of the only thing within my power to control--- the medicine that is food.

no way did Christ proselytize. that was more his apostles' speed. 2 examples: The Our Father and The Sermon on the Mount.
"preach" in modern parlance implies proselytization as sterotyped by southern ministers or snake throwin Baptists. then there are the men and women of the cloth who hear "preach" as "pray and reach."

“one FISA can net 25,000 people's data“
Beyond the almost-beyond-belief amount of political corruption, that is THE issue.
Who invented the “two hop” rule and the other definitions that made that possible anyway? Let’s put that head on a pike. Along with those of whatever judges agreed to it.

Isn't Susan Rice, who did all of those unmaskings, married to an ABC executive?

--not as a citizen but as a refugee--
He was a citizen of Roman occupied Israel.
They only became refugees later upon Herod's slaughter of the innocents [currently a sacred Dem sacrament I believe] and returned upon Herod's death.

Been thinking about something:
As you know, the dems have a plan to bring up refugees and settle them in certain states so that those states get more electoral votes.
I have run across a few stories where GOP governors are asking for refugees, and of course people are going nuts and calling them turncoats and such.
What if those governors are asking for refugees so as to DILUTE the settlement in any one state? For example, if California was going to ask for 50,000 but Tennessee got half of those, it would depress California's claim to an increased electoral vote while augmenting Tennessee's.
I think it is worth considering.

"@thomairs" Found this brilliant short documentary about a unique Spitfire which was filmed crash landing at Mount Farm Airbase in 1944.
After the war, Mount Farm became the new village of Berinsfield, though part of the runway remains.

Compares and contrasts BoJo and Pope Che.
http://bejohngalt.com/2019/12/tale-of-two-christmas-messages/
Snip:
"Church Militant contrasted Boris Johnson’s Christmas Message with the one given by pope Francis.
Johnson’s address was mostly upbeat, talking about the birth of Jesus Christ, but also about the persecution of Christians and how he, as Prime Minister, would work to end it.
Francis’, on the other hand, was anything but joyous speaking to the Roman Curia a few days prior to Christmas. He took the opportunity – as he often does – to attack people, in this case traditional Catholics, whom he labeled “rigid” and “imbalanced.”"

The Pope is a heretic. It is a very sad thing to say, but evidently true. To gainsay the Great Commission--madness! Ends of the earth, God save us. Think of those who died in hideousness to proclaim the Gospel where they were not welcome--he has defamed them all. He is, I very sorry to say, not worthy. I speak, admittedly, as an Episcopalian, another very unworthy church (as OL would be the first to note).

A couple of weeks ago, we had a Christmas get together with my sister and her family. My BiL is building a 12x16' shed using Timber Frame construction. I think that's what he said and mentioned using Jack Soban's book. There's not a nail in the shed but he did mention using wooden pegs, where, I have no idea. And he bought a saw mill a few years ago and milled all the lumber too. I'll post some pics when my wife sends them to me. Talented guy!

Youtube timberframe construction Rocco.
It's a beautiful craft especially on enormous barns and other structures.
Just saw a big timberframe barn going up not too far from here a week or so ago.

I saw my other democrat friend in the pool today. It’s been about a month. He asked about Kim Jong Il. I said;
‘Didn’t you hear? He sent Trump flowers!”
His response ; “ I didn’t hear that”.
I told him to watch better news
The uninformed can be fun

The pontiff is a fool or a knave, i dont say this lightly. Part of the episcopal church has discarded the truth in favor or what ever current nostrum, rowan williams is certainly the standard bearer for thar part, with gene robinsom on the other end
