Violent unrest in Iraq, Lebanon and Iran. The NY Times reports on Iran and acknowledges that the financial pressure of the new Trump sanctions are a big part of the Ayatollah's problem.
Iran is experiencing its deadliest political unrest since the Islamic Revolution 40 years ago, with at least 180 people killed — and possibly hundreds more — as angry protests have been smothered in a government crackdown of unbridled force.
It began two weeks ago with an abrupt increase of at least 50 percent in gasoline prices. Within 72 hours, outraged demonstrators in cities large and small were calling for an end to the Islamic Republic’s government and the downfall of its leaders.
...
The gas price increase, which was announced as most Iranians had gone to bed, came as Iran is struggling to fill a yawning budget gap. The Trump administration sanctions, mostly notably their tight restrictions on exports of Iran’s oil, are a big reason for the shortfall. The sanctions are meant to pressure Iran into renegotiating the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and major world powers, which President Trump abandoned, calling it too weak.
Most of the nationwide unrest seemed concentrated in neighborhoods and cities populated by low-income and working-class families, suggesting this was an uprising born in the historically loyal power base of Iran’s post-revolutionary hierarchy.
Left unmentioned, possibly because it is a specious cheap shot - raising gas prices doesn't seem to play well anywhere, as Macron of France and Moreno of Ecuador will attest. But Shhh! Don't tell the Green New Dealers!
And as a bonus "Hmm" - the Chinese leadership is in a quite different position from the Ayatollah, having had good long term success at delivering prosperity. But public memories can be short and I suspect glaring examples of public unrest over poor economic results gives the Chinese leaders a "There but for the grace of Mao go I" chill.
Primo!

I believe CH thought she had turned, and ratted everyone out, which doesn't seem to be the case. In any case, there's "wrongdoing" and "crime." She is specifically focusing on the criminal aspect. Do we think Horowitz will make a criminal referral? I have no idea except that he completely wimped out in his previous report.

It is my understanding that anyone who is named in an IG report gets access to their portion of the report in order to rebutt it prior to the release of the report.
I guess an alternative take is that it is a limp-dick report that doesn't hold Page culpable of anything significant. Probably a few process issues but nothing to do with a coup. And now she knows it so she can be confident in front of the cameras.

Not sure how Horowitz gets the Steele dossier fiasco into his report, but that alone deserves its own special prosecutor. Never before in the field of human conflict have so few deceived so many.
China released its latest stats and supposedly their economy is stabilizing. I don't see how that can be when the tariffs have kicked in and their own economy is largely in the doldrums.
Still no word on a deal, and Xi knows that any deal will result in a gain in face for Trump.
The mullahs are losing the support of the working class in Iran and things are not working out like they thought they would in Iraq and Lebanon. In addition, they don't have much extra cash to fund their proxies or buy votes.

Then Mr. Carlson had the helicopter land in the middle of the parking lot. I guess he thought he could save the day by turning the rest of the turkeys loose...it gets pretty strange after that.

Without something akin to a strict scrutiny standard effectively there may be an individual right, but it's hard to protect it from hostile localities. Reminds me too of just how much money doomberg has channeled into this issue. He has also made his views of the 2nd amendment, and not scotus, a cornerstone of contunuing legal ed in the states. Young lawyers are being taught in law school and then as young lawyers that heller and its sequel = bad law in need of overturning by a more enlightened court.

In the twitterverse, no one has the patience to read a full report and a heavy reliance is placed on the executive summary. That is why the dems were so upset with Barr's 4 page summary prior to the 19 page executive summary to the Mueller report. Barr had blunted any effect of the excutive summary. Similarly the executive summary of Horowitz report blunted the real bias that were in the Page Strzok e-mails which actually in the report.
Page and Strzock may be free but public opinion of them and FBI is low. This goes hand in hand with Wretchard's latest https://pjmedia.com/richardfernandez/the-last-hurrah-of-the-oracle/ about controlling the narrative which Page and her ilk with their media accomplices are still trying to do with hopefully little success.

Getting that out so promptly really put a spoke in the wheels of Dem/media plans to spin the event. A master stroke!

Her statement that she has been exonerated in the upcoming report is pure speculation and not the fact currently.
I think everyone here knows that already. It is my speculation that some of her speculation comes from the portions of the report that she reviewed.
Page and her attorneys would only have review of her testimony
Is there a link to this? I am interested in reading more about it.

Jim,
Should we conclude that AG Barr supports the Horowitz Report as it is since he has not put out a similar summary? Horowitz did refer something(s) to Barr/Durham for investigation and possible prosecution. It depends on what was referred and how the matter intersects with other matters and players in the report, but it may be that this is the way that Barr wants to proceed.

Barr put out his summary of the Mueller report because weissman et al were stalling on the redactions so they could spin the report before it came out. Barr trumped them, just as DJT trumped Schiff by releasing the transcript of the phone call

I'll jump in TomR's pool with 1. I think they all skate except for 1 patsy.
I think it's going to be a whitewash. I want the FBI abolished but my gut tells me Barr wants to save the integrity of the whole IC community. I hope I'm wrong!
