So, over the decades I just assumed he was 1st chair at the Boston Symphony or some such. Whelp, when the Innerweb thingy got good, I did a proper search. I also dabble in harmonica and sax (although my embouchure is garbage at this point.)
I ended up playing the flute, because my two older sisters had already claimed the piano and the violin, and we apparently needed a wind instrument. Never really liked it much. My younger brother was always more interested in figuring out how to turn off the tv in his closet and get the door closed from his bed, before the parental footsteps in the hall got to his room. As the oldest of 5, spaced close together, when they offered instrumental lessons in the 4th grade, I had to play clarinet because that way I could use my uncle's.
He had played in high school, and then in college with IU's band. By the time I was ready to take lessons he was starting his vet practice.
Alas, I wasn't very good, so dropped instrumental lessons after 5th grade. I took one year of piano but wasn't very good at that, either.

I played piano pretty seriously growing up. Spent one summer at Interlochen music camp in northern Michigan. I was decent, got pretty advanced, but realized at Interlochen that I wasn’t as gifted as many there, and it wouldn’t be more than a hobby. I had to work super hard to learn music that others seemed to be able to pick up relatively effortlessly, and play better than I could.
I had a similar experience with math. Thought I might be a math major, but found I had to work much harder to do not quite as well as the math geniuses. In both cases I became convinced that there really is innate hardwired talent, and all the hard work in the world won’t make up for not having that gift.

Got the cello 22 years ago during my midlife crisis.
BTW, anyone want to buy the Gliga cello and case for about $4K? It’s a gorgeous instrument but time for me to move to an electronic cello so as not to disturb neighbors.
I remember listening to Barbra Streisand in my car one day (loooong ago) and realizing I was never going to be a professional singer. Even if forgetting lyrics weren't already a fatal flaw. Later as a teenager, I played sax and guitar with no supervision, and the results were as you would suspect, lousy:)

I am an almost perfect confirmation of the link between musicality and math chops. I have neither in spades.
I am an excellent percussionist but was more interested in guns, cars, girls and big yellow machines.

Chuck Schumer sat for years during the Obama Administration and watched as China ripped off the United States. He & the Do Nothing Democrats did NOTHING as this $ carnage took place. Now, without even seeing it, he snipes at our GREAT new deal with China. Too bad Cryin’ Chuck!

With all due modesty I’m good at both music and math. Maybe very good. But people who make careers of them are 1 in 10,000 great.

Trump with his typical bullying was so wrong about Saint Greta who has no anger management issues whatsoever unless you count that minor threat to line leaders who don't comply with the climate commie kids "against the wall".

"There's a fairly high correlation of music and math skills."I
CH,
I have a master's in Operations Research (talk about Math:) and I can't carry a tune or play any instrument though my poor parents tried piano and sax. No talent or skill:)
I am the exception to my theory and yours.
They just made the prisoner exchange between Navy and Army. LOL.

P.S. I knew Trump would show up. In 2016 Mrs. Jib, Frederick and I were there when he showed up as POTUS-elect. Biggest cheer I have ever heard at that game, while Obama's Secty of DoD got the silence treatment as he walked on the field to change sides. LOL.
