Sen. Mitch McConnell calls a charade a charade:
POLITICO Playbook: McConnell: Quit the charade, impeachment is a ‘political exercise’
SENATE MAJORITY LEADER MITCH MCCONNELL on “Fox and Friends” this morning: “Do you think Chuck Schumer is impartial? Do you think Elizabeth Warren is impartial? Bernie Sanders is impartial? So let’s quit the charade. This is a political exercise. … All I’m asking of Schumer is that we treat Trump the same way we treated Clinton.
“We had a procedure that was approved 100 to nothing -- Schumer voted for it, to go through the opening arguments, to have a written question period, and then, based upon that, deciding what witnesses to call. We haven’t ruled out witnesses. We’ve said let’s handle this case just like we did with President Clinton. Fair is fair.”
MCCONNELL was asked if he had spoken to Schumer: “Yeah, before we left town. Look, we’re at an impasse. We can’t do anything until the speaker sends the papers over, so everybody enjoy the holidays.”
“THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, if they think this is a very significant episode, can take it into account we’re voting [next] year. Most people that I run into, whether they are fans of the president or not, say, ‘Well, why don’t you just let us decide this. We’re in the middle of the election.’”
Interesting. So the door to calling witnesses remains ajar. I am confident Pelosi and Schumer believe McConnell will slam it shut with a procedural vote at the proper time so they want an upfront guarantee. As if.
MM, he told Bongino that he paid attention to Twitterers, he didn't specify which ones. Bongino's twitter army is on a completely different storyline that the DawsonSFields and TBeanzs. I could be wrong but I don't think Nunes was giving a shoutout to people who tweet that Comey is a White Hat.

Now that journalism for the most part is dead and replaced with Fake News and propaganda I for one appreciate the effort put in by the Twitter Sleuths to try and uncover the facts. I think it's a signal they must be doing something right when the Twitter Sleuths get banned, some permanently, by Twitter.
Posted by: Tom R | December 23, 2019 at 05:39 PM
TK,
I don't think so, either. What I think Nunes was saying is that he found them helpful because it gave them ideas on what they should look for and where to look.
That is not the same as giving an individual shout-out.
Posted by: MissMarple2 | December 23, 2019 at 05:39 PM
The Sleuthers claimed all along the Nunes didn't know jack until he went to the Whitehouse and Trump's team filled him in on the actual spygate events. In that podcast Nunes clarifies exactly why he went to the Whitehouse and it completely and totally shuts down The Sleuthers claim. That leaves two choices.
A.) Nunes was giving a nod to The Sleuthers, who figured out that he has been lying for years, and continues to lie on Bongino's show.
B.) Nunes was telling the truth.
Posted by: Threadkiller | December 23, 2019 at 05:41 PM

I put twitter sleuths, you, and other bloggers on this who post without any background in DC politics in the same category. Nothing you, or your compatriot thinkers influences one once of my thinking on what is true or false or right or wrong. I make my own decisions based on what I see as fallible and non-fallible. Listen to it played in reverse, Tom. You will hear "red herring, red herring." It is right after that.
You can then superimpose it over your recording of Trump saying that Nunes is a pawn who needed spygate spoon-fed to him.
Your assumptions will really run high then. Good luck!
On the other hand, if you want to review the Nunes interview and point out his deception, that would probably fit the etiquette of Spygate Debate that you dismissed JohnH over.

Sorry for the language but this story is too bizarre not to keep track of. This lunatic lawyer, Hook, with the lunatic client trying to shake down Allstate with a ludicrous claim was in the news a while back for the crazy demand letters he sent Allstate's lawyers;
Lawyer Who Told ‘Cumstain’ Opposing Counsel to ‘Pay Up Fuckface’ Is Off the Case.
So he was supposed to show up at a hearing to show cause this week but apparently didn't show. Or did he?

There was a Dirty Jobs episode, MM, where Mike Rowe went up into one of those wind monsters. He had to drain gallons of oil out of the transmission that converts propeller rpm to generator rpm. It is a violent environment in the gearbox trying to subdue att the torque created by the large blades. The Team Trump tentacles have spread much further than I would have ever imagined. The purveyors of The Narrative are shrewd and there is no telling where they might set up shop and perform their misdirection.
Is it possible that an expert on The Narrative would be so bold as to settle amongst a bunch of contrarians just to keep them off the scent? But, then again, throwing them off the scent would have them no longer trusting the authors of The Narrative, which would put them right back on the scent, to which The Narrative would immediately misdirect them again. And so on.
There is an important goal to be achieved by utilizing misdirection amongst loyal Trump supporters that have a different opinion. But is the goal seeker really sending us towards the goal, or is that misdirection as well?
I am certain that whomever solves this riddle will almost certainly have "Smart Sicilian" and "Iocane powder" on their resume.

Alex,
SO WHAT DO YOU THINK THE DEAL WITH MCGAN is? (I forget how to spell is name). Who cares about a discussion between Trump and his lawyer over firing Mueller, since he didn’t fire him? That’s what lawyers are for.

TomR,
You are welcome. I am glad you found something to bitch about. You really are the most anal commenter we have ever had here. Keep it up and GUS will give you a gold star.

I'm not so sure that article previously mentioned here claiming the Senate can dismiss or try at any time is as iron clad as the author says.
In the Nixon case she cites, the House impeached Judge Nixon and sent the articles of impeachment to the Senate. The issue in Nixon was, could a Senate committee decision voted on by the Senate satisfy the Constitutional requirement for a trial. The Court said the Senate has plenary power on how it tries an impeachment case. It did not take up the question of whether it can act prior to the House forwarding articles of impeachment.
She bases her whole argument not on the language of decision of Nixon but on her interpretation in this paragraph;
I'm not sure she hasn't got the argument exactly backwards from what she intends but regardless of what she meant to say, the jump she is making is not explicit or even necessarily implicit in the Nixon decision. The Senate's plenary power to try cannot be extinguished by the House. But when that plenary power exists is obviously dependent on the House's prior actions. She may be right, but it is not nearly as cut and dried as she states, IMO.

Not sure why McGahn ever spoke to Mueller in first place, plus who cares since the whole Mueller report should be deemed fruit of the poisoned tree.
