OK, this was neither conciliatory nor well-planned by Warren:
Warren Told Sanders After Debate, ‘I Think You Called Me a Liar on National TV’
Bernie did NOT respond with "If the moccasin fits...", and mores the pity.
I don't think Warren will win a pissing match about credibility. Gail Heriot takes us back to Warren's medical bankruptcy "study", which at most revealed a crisis of disability insurance (and when a progressive has lost FactCheck...).
Warren's Fauxcahontas story is well known, as is her brilliantly planned Big Reveal that she might be 1/1024 Native American, so take that, Trump.
Let's not even mention Medicare For All, her "I was for it before I was for it but later" own goal.
And more recently, the WaPo took a look at her conveniently evolving standards on big dollar donations.
Warren is fighting the wrong battle with the wrong guy. Yet another display of poor judgment on her part.

I've seen a handful of candidate bumper stickers in Austin. Warren tops the list at about 5 with Bernie right behind (of course there are a lot of old Bernie 2016 stickers still around). A couple of Pete and a couple of Biden and one Kamala, but that one had a Warren sticker right above it.

Kind of like the Iran Iraq war. Pass the popcorn and root for an escalating response pattern.
Back in the late 80s (after Iran/Contra broke) I had a International Relations professor who was a former Undersecretary of the Navy under Reagan. He pointed out one of the unpublicized reasons for the US backing Iran and the Soviets backing Iraq is that both the US and Soviets thought it was a good idea for both sides to kill as many of the other as possible. from our perspective, we didn't want the Islamic Republic of Iran to win. We wanted them weakened so that the moderate/secular Iranians could retake control.

What I find interesting about the upcoming Senate trial, is that although most of the Senators are attorneys, hardly any has any trial experience, whatsoever, and I am fairly certain John Roberts has zero. He was in private practice at some point, but he wasn't trying cases, and he has never sat as a trial judge. During the Clinton trial, some senator made an evidentiary objection, and Rehnquist looked like he woke up from his nap before he ruled on it. Maybe Ted Cruz can inject a little life into this whole sordid affair.

Jane,
Chappaquidick has one main road which went from Teddy's party to the ferry. He took a sharp right on a dirt road, (with 3 lit up houses) and a sharper left to go over the bridge.
We were there about 10 yrs later with a local guy showing us the area. It was laughable to pretend that anyone, no matter how drunk, if they were going to the ferry, would hang a hard right down that little dirt track. It only makes sense if the Swimmer was groping his date instead of watching where he was going on the way to their nookie spot.
I wonder if anyone documented what state her clothes were in when they recovered her body.

The unreasonable hatred of the President is beyond my comprehension. The democrats have made up a bunch of crimes which either never occurred or don't exist to begin with.
He's accused of being stupid, yet he's obviously smart, and they don't get concerned about dim bulbs on their side, like Joe Biden.
He's accused of being vulgar because he uses a few cuss words like "SOB" and "BS" but we never hear an objection to any other elected official's language. LBJ was notorious for his profanity, and we never heard anything about it. I am sure there are senators and representatives who use bad language, but we never hear about them, either.
He's accused of using his position to enrich himself, but not only can no one point to him or anyone in his family getting one dime from the government or any foreign government, President Trump donates his salary back to the government as well!
I am still convinced that he frightens them because not only does he know where the bodies are buried, he will have no hesitation in revealing them. I do think a lot of the delay is because of things we don't know about. For example, until all of this stuff came up about General Flynn, I didn't know that the agents didn't record interviews and only produced 302's from their recollections. Local police departments would have a hard time getting away with that.
And I just became aware that there isn't an actual law prohibiting investigating a presidential candidate or sitting president, and it's left up to the senior FBI officials. Why has that been allowed to stand?
So why the hysteria? This goes way beyond partisanship.

"For example, until all of this stuff came up about General Flynn, I didn't know that the agents didn't record interviews and only produced 302's from their recollection...."
and according to Powell in her interview with Lou Dobbs a key 302 is "missing". the Bureau generates "evidence" by tampering with the record of events, then ditches it leaving only a shadow which somehow retains its sway as credible evidence.
a longstanding COINTELPRO "protocol", one of Hoover's favorites. but, of course, that's just conspiracy theory. "we all know" COINTELPRO is a thing of the past.
it brought down radical movements like AIM and the original Black Panthers. oh, "those people," But here it is BADJACKETING a sitting president with manufactured evidence in a forthcoming impeachment trial.

Mel is right but cash flow is only part of it.
Ideology is akin to a mental illness, a shared community wide one. In essence a collective personality disorder. Like a mental illness it perceives the world irrationally and reacts irrationally to those irrational perceptions. To an outsider the irrationality is plain and perplexing. To the ideologue they make perfect sense because of their skewed original perspective.
An ideologue is usually not self aware of their irrationality and that is why pointing out their delusions doesn't work; you're essentially telling them they're crazy. A non self aware mental case thinks everyone else is nuts. The sky IS a different color in their world and when you tell them it is blue that just reinforces their conviction you are a dangerous lunatic who must be suppressed.
Ideologues, like the mentally ill, build elaborate and destructive defense mechanisms to shield their irrationality from both the real world and from introspection. Because their ideology is their identity their core beliefs must be defended at all costs. To them, politics is an existential conflict. This is why to a prog the destructive idea "the personal is political" is not only obvious but essential.
Also like a mental illness a few are salvageable if they can become self aware, but because it has become their identity and the human mind builds neural pathways, both healthy and crazy ones, through repetition, most aren't.
With the conventional mentally ill we just steer clear as best we can and perhaps help if possible. They normally seek to create a small self contained irrational personal bubble in which their irrationality plays out and is safe and which others can often avoid.
A prog ideologue OTOH seeks to transform the world to one gigantic irrational bubble in which their irrationality is safe.
The merely disordered can create a small world from which they can successfully, though very unhappily jettison those things which deny their reality.
Where does the ideologue put those things [people] who challenge their delusions? Where can someone be safely jettisoned if the whole world is your delusion?
The grave, the Gulag or absorption.

Jack,
I am convinced that Trump KNOWS that money is being siphoned off from foreign aid and back to senators, congressmen, and assorted bureaucrats.
Notice how often he prods the press pool by asking them "Why is it that it's only the United States who pays all of this aid or funds NATO?"
I am not a mind-reader but it seems to me he is trying to get reporters to get off their butts and do some actual investigative reporting without telling them to (because then, of course, he would be accused of being a dictator).
Posted by: MissMarple2 | January 16, 2020 at 01:05 PM
If that is true about Mutt and Mike, then the USMCA must have cut out Utah since all they have is salt flats and resort skiing. Not a big importer of Tequila, obviously and how many kids on bikes can they send to a Catholic country to proselytize the population?
Actually, that is sarc and the only reason they voted no is because of Trump.

The Mao and Stalin and Pol Pot and Kim analogies will stick that much better now.
And the little Stalins in our universities keep on Stalinin' as they ban Republicans and call the fascists.
The GAO report and the accusations by Giuliani's so called friends reek of corruption.Agencies disappear billions of dollars and the GAO is freaking clueless but a delay of a few weeks of which no one except a very few were aware of somehow broke the law. The timing alone reflects desperation. Throw as much mud as possible and try to make it stick for a week or a month. But draw it out at all cost.
I think the time is rapidly coming then we the people line up down the corridors of our government with firehoses and clean out the filth.
