I don’t know what to make of the Flynn situation. I am not immersed in the details but my understanding is that he was set up and ambushed. There were people at senior levels of the FBI and DOJ who set out to bag him and went to some lengths to do so.
But on the other hand, as I understand the facts, he was in fact guilty, which explains why he pled guilty. I don’t think that he was entrapped — they knew that he would lie to them, but they did not cause him to do so. He is responsible here for his own actions.
Was the Deep State and/or the Obama holdovers out to get him? Quite possibly, but that still does not excuse his lying to Pence or the FBI.
I think Trump probably had the right instinct to fire the guy but hope that the prosecutors would leave it at that. Maybe his very expensive and very prestigious counsel let him down, but I think he bears some responsibility for that too.
There is a lot more to this story I am sure. We will see how it plays out.

They were then flown to Tripoli, the Libyan capital, where they have been posted to frontline positions in the east of the city.
Another 1,350 men crossed into Turkey on 5 January. Some have since been deployed to Libya with others still undergoing training at camps in southern Turkey. More men from the Islamist Sham Legion are also considering travelling to Libya."

I get your point about his guilt being a “secondary issue.” There are issues about selective prosecution and the almost beyond belief efforts of high level law enforcement to get him for a fairly minor crime. They obviously did not have to ask him about his conversation with the ambassador; they had it on tape. It seems very strange that the government would work so hard to get this guy on such a petty charge. Someone appears to have it in for him. (Maybe there is more to the story; I just don’t know.)
But secondary or not, it sure looks like he is in fact guilty. If he is not, why did he plead guilty in the first place?

Theo,
This has been a major topic of discussion here for some time. While there are differences of opinion on Flynn, the general consensus is that Flynn was targeted. Probably because Obama and others saw him as a threat.
General consensus here is that Flynn plead guilty because of threats of prosecution against his son.
We disagree on some of the particulars of his case.
One of the things we have looked at is that he probably wasn't represented well by his first set of lawyers. They may have had a conflict of interest.
I think another general consensus is that the FBI/DOJ didn't play fair with Flynn either.
I assume that with Flynn's lawyer withdrawing his guilty plea that the judge will accede to his wishes.
If not, there will be a lot of angry people here.
If accepted, many of the issues of the unfairness of his treatment will become public. And the government will have a difficult time proving his guilt with what some of us think were, basically, Gestapo tactics.

Jim, re. Flynn, given Sullivan pushed pretty hard to get Flynn to withdraw and Flynn did not, I can easily see Sullivan thinking Flynn is playing some games now and denying the motion.
I suspect the judge is pissed at both sides by now. If I were to predict (and I’ll probably be wrong), this motion is denied, they proceed to sentencing, Flynn gets a suspended sentence.

AB,
That's an interesting take on Flynn. You may be right, but I find it hard to imagine a judge forcing a defendant to plead guilty even with a prior agreement to do so.
Post-sentencing that would make sense. If you threw yourself on the mercy of the court and didn't get it, well too late now.
Pre-sentencing I think it's fair to make the point that the plea was a contract that the other party didn't live up to. Or may have arrived at unfairly.

Beating a dead horse here. Missile boats don't need to be autonomous. Create a missile-launching system that you can stack on any freighter or oil tanker deck and fire remotely. The crew can move it to the right place and abandon ship. No ship automation needed, just launch automation.

AB,
If the plea withdrawal is accepted I foresee more motions before a trial. I would think the idea is to avoid a trial. Powell wanted a dismissal from the git-go. I think that is still the goal.
---
I haven't seen anything on an autonomous dog-fighter. With some AA missile ranges of over 100 miles I think that F-35 commanded drones are the next step. The F-35 radar signature changes when they open their internal bay. Better to have drones fire first.
The F-35 is limited in what it can carry in its internal bay. It can carry more on fixed points on its wings, but then it's not stealthy. The ideal would be for F-35s to be beyond radar defenses when trailing forces took out the radar defenses.
Sneak the stealthy air forces in first and then destroy the air defense systems.

Exactly! You build a ship to launch missiles and where are the defense systems? Now the ship costs a fortune.
You make the ship expendable. If you want to save lives, you debark the crew that put it in place.
As far as autonomy goes - it then needs station-keeping and the ability to receive launch commands for the missiles on deck.
That's relatively easy given our current technology.
How do you replenish it? You don't. You assume after all the missiles have been launched that it's sitting on the bottom of the sea.
So you sneak in another cheap ship with an expensive payload.
Ships can be relatively inexpensive. It's the missile launch systems that are expensive.

I hope Flynn’s previous lawyers get demolished over this.
They should be disbarred. I hope when this is over, she files to do so.
Can anyone bring issues to the bar to be investigated?

I greatly enjoyed the introduction to Q. Thank you to whoever posted that.
Oh no, JimNJ! I was hoping to ask you to relink before you went to bed!

Someone appears to have it in for him. (Maybe there is more to the story; I just don’t know.)
There is MUCH more to this story, and yes, a number of people "had it in for him"--from Obama on down, because Flynn had spoken out--and been fired for, a few years earlier --opposing BO's ME policies.

To the point that (IIRC--you can read that article; I found it for you, but I'm not going to read it as well. I'm following Megxit!)
?Sally Yates? went to the WH to tell Trump to not hire him, as he was already under investigation before he took the position in the Administrations.
So his very existence as part of the Trump administration was (interpreted as) both a BIG FU to Obama, and (likely) an existential threat to many.
He also supported some female in her suit against wrongful termination against McCabe, I think...
Geez, the stuff in my head...
Yep--
