I ran across this this morning. It's Secretaries Pompeo and Mnuchin answering questions from reporters about Iran, Suleimani. terrorism, the attacks by Iran, and sanctions, along with a couple on China trade.

I have made it through the dang thing (about 20 minutes) but the press really is despicable. Every question is framed as if Trump and his team are stupid or lying.

CH,

IIRC, the Shah was not only a "modernist"but was taking a page out his neighbor Turkey and trying to make Iran a secular government. There was always a radical Islamic element as in Turkey. The Mullah Khoemeni was exiled in Paris but was able to send "bat signals" to the radicals who were recruiting students who easily radicalized. have been the target the Mullah's radicals.

But, believe it or not, the USA had as much complicity in creating the destruction of the Shah. It won't come as no surprise that Fat Teddy Kennedy was one of the prominent instigators and along with Kissinger and a weak executive (Jimmy Carter), the Shah was doomed especially when he go sick.

The link below is one of the better explinations of what happened:

Melinda,

O'Keefe's trailer looks to me like the leftists are planning riots and fires if the President is re-elected.

I lived through those riots in the mid-60's although my knowledge of them was mostly through TV, because central Indiana wasn't affected.

I hope O'Keefe's got definite, prosecutable evidence so people can be arrested.

James D.

BREAKING: MLB suspends Houston Astros executives for one year & fines team $5M after cheating investigation

Can't wait to see the loathsome cheating Red Sox similarly hammered.

Really MLB ought to strip them of the 2017 championship and force them to pull the pennant down from their stadium, too.

ESPN is saying that “harsh” penalties are in store for Red Sox manager Alex Cora for his role in sign stealing while a Houston coach. As of now, there is no indication of any other penalty for the BoSox.

Dave (in MA)

Why would Cora cheating in Houston in '17 or in Boston in '18/'19 lead to the Sox getting their '17 AL East championship under Farrell revoked?

Jack is Back!

jane,

Sorry, should have refreshed. Funny, we linked the same analysis from 2009.

jimmyk

Why would Cora cheating in Houston in '17 or in Boston in '18/'19 lead to the Sox getting their '17 AL East championship under Farrell revoked?

Because we hate the Red Sox. Kind of the same logic that says Trump should be impeached because Hillary colluded with Russians and the Obama administration to steal signals from spy on the Trump campaign.

No wonder Cleveland teams aren’t winning or in the playoffs.

Back to the Hogs. They were a creation of Joe Bugel, the OL coach. They got the nickname in one of the practices. At every home game in one of the end zones, there was contingent of guys in dresses, female hats, and hog-noses. How about the 2004 championship, James D? Should the Bosox be stripped of that one, too? I know, a cheap shot!

Should spitball pitchers in the HOF have an asterisk?

Corked batters?

Greenie aficionados?

'Roid fans (I know, this one has gotten some traction).

How about teams that play around with infield watering?

How about umpires with their own strike zones?

If Rob Manfred wants to make believe he's Kenesaw Mountain Landis, that's fine. If folks wants to trash the legitimacy of the WS wins of the Astros and Bosox, fine. But in terms of integrity of the game, the big issue, as with all sports, is whether gamblers have certain umpires, managers or coaches, or players, in their pockets. And as to Saint Manfred, I look forward to the investigation as to what MLB officials knew and when they knew it about juiced and unjuiced balls.

Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow and manager AJ Hinch have each been suspended without pay for the 2020 season by Major League Baseball, which on Monday released the findings from its investigation into Houston's sign-stealing allegations. Houston also forfeits its first- and second-round picks in the 2020 and 2021 MLB Drafts as part of the penalties. In addition, the Astros were fined $5 million, which is the highest allowable fine under the Major League Constitution.

One of the most controversial gun control bills proposed in the Virginia General Assembly has been killed, while others passed out of committee on Monday morning. Senate Bill 16, proposed by Sen. Richard Saslaw, would have expanded the definition of "assault firearms" under Virginia law, outlawed their possession, and outlawed the the selling or transfer of any firearm magazine with a capacity for more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

The Infamous Ignatz

One of my low points as a Raiders fan was in the strike season they were clearly the best team in football, losing only one game.
Unfortunately the great Jim Plunkett had his only bad game in the playoffs against the Jets and they lost to a much inferior team. The Redskins went on to win the Super Bowl.
The next year Plunkett was up to snuff and the Raiders crushed the Redskins in the SB, as I believe they would have the year before but for a couple of errant Plunkett passes.

What 2004 championship? I don’t remember there being a World Series in 2004. I’m not sure there even was an October that year.

The Infamous Ignatz

Tom Bethell, one of the most perceptive guys ever and the creator of The Strange New Respect Award, always thought the Shah's ill-fated and western prog endorsed land reform plans led to his downfall.
His strongest support was from the middle and landed classes. By breaking up so many family properties of those classes he gained no support from the people handed property and lost that of the people he needed to stay in power.
That, coupled with a concerted Western prog propaganda plan depicting him as a little Hitler and illegitimate because of Mosaddegh while simultaneously depicting the plainly satanic Khomeini as just another austere religious scholar ensured another prog disaster for us and the poor furriners they're always taking such a keen interest in giving their wisdom to good and hard.

James D.

Seriously, I think the issue with the Astros especially wasn’t the cheating.

Like Barry Bonds with steroids, it’s the over the top, industrial program of cheating, combined with a penchant for making enemies of everyone around them.

Also - I just now saw that the Astros have fired their GM and managed. Which is absolute BS because there is no way that ownership didn’t know about and approve everything they did.

Gentlejim

Neo,

Indiana had a progtard introduce the same type of thing under IN SB 203. It’ll more than likely die in committee. Republicans hold a super majority here.

It's a long time ago, but I believe that the Shah did receive treatment in America. You're spot on about Carter. I remember him toasting the Shah at some banquet and referring to him as his best friend in the world. I recall thinking that the comment was absurd. Within a year, the Shah was deposed, and he and his family had fled the country.

Thomas Collins

I find myself reading them like I have to look at a car wreck...so now I don't even do that.

The irony is these posters are doing to JOM exactly what the Left did to college campuses so unless you are willing to take it, it is easier to just be quiet.

Henry,

Your 4:50 is the FinCen leaker, a very, very big deal in AML world (Anti-Money Laundering).

That her name is now public, after so many years of silence, but knowing there was a leaker (think Lichtblau leaking the Swift system’s use back in ‘03?, I think..). Like the Roman’s, her being on the legal crucifix just on the edge of FinanceLand is the message I want to see, even though I’d rather see a certain Former IRS officielle tacked up there more than our current contestant. Fair and legal warning has been given. There may be more in her wake, but I kinda doubt it.

Now the real Laundromat clean up can start to be made public, because the pursued can no longer be notified of the searches.
