Murkowski also said the trial had not been fair and that Congress had failed as an institution.

"Given the partisan nature of this impeachment from the very beginning and throughout, I have come to the conclusion that there will be no fair trial in the Senate. I don't believe the continuation of this process will change anything. It is sad for me to admit that, as an institution, the Congress has failed," she said.

"It has also become clear some of my colleagues intend to further politicize this process, and drag the Supreme Court into the fray, while attacking the Chief Justice. I will not stand for nor support that effort. We have already degraded this institution for partisan political benefit, and I will not enable those who wish to pull down another.

"We are sadly at a low point of division in this country."

Buckeye

Mrs. Buckeye stayed in Portman’s face all week, leaving nothing to chance.

He has behaved, but not sure that means much with that two faced Chamber toadie.

Zicam throat spray DOES contain zinc--and my now retired former elementary school gym teacher cousin would spray it up his nose, everyday during cold season, and swears by it for cold prevention. YMMV.
Don't use too much, or snort!

Dem Sens Durbin/Brown/Blumenthal to put forth motions to allow senators to take 10 minutes apiece to speak on the flr before final votes on impeachment

D

Murkoedki owes Mitch for saving her bacon during the write-in campaign.
She whiffed on Kavanaugh snd now she has to pay the piper.
Feinstein didn’t threaten her this time.

Neo

The British flag is being removed from EU headquarters in a few minutes.

Porchlight

Shut up Murk. The Senate so far has SUCCEEDED in not furthering a partisan impeachment by the House and not granting the House the ability to usurp the power of the Senate.

Neo

It's coming down

Old Lurker

Buckeye "I ordered a new battery pack, watched a youtube on how to disassemble, and had at it."

I would have just FedEx'd it to JiB and asked for next day return.

Captain Hate

Dem Sens Durbin/Brown/Blumenthal to put forth motions to allow senators to take 10 minutes apiece to speak on the flr before final votes on impeachment

Three of the dumbest, irritating and inarticulate dunces, one of which owes his well paid deadbeat existence to the 17th amendment.

Buckeye

You know she wanted to say that Congress had fallen almost to Trump’s level, but had to bite her tongue.

D

Neo, I think that is a terrible idea.
They can pontificate about that later on at anytime the Senate is in session.
It just drags this mess out.’Vote on witnesses and then vote on the articles for acquittal and end this thing,
Repub lawyers should be ready to go,

Narciso

A full chimp set trying to be cicero

D

Porch;
Agree wholeheartedly .
Very good point.

Old Lurker

Murkowski and Alexander both should have just announced their positions and then shut up. Or even better, just vote and say nothing. But no...they both offered gratuitous soundbites that will be useful to the other side.

Jane

MY Gawd,

The lying by the democrats is stunning, even after listening to it for days.plus these ex lawyer/judges can’t pronounce words like “precedents”. Do we only elect morons?

Buckeye

OL

The “tinkerer” gene is going to be the death of me.

When I was about 5 I got in serious trouble for taking one of my grandma’s old school pushbutton wall switches apart. Had to know how they worked.

The fact that the power was still on and posed a serious risk was just a detail:)

Buckeye

The fact that swollen lithium battery packs tend to explode was just another detail:)

Neo

former Rep. John Delaney (D-Md.) (who ?), a successful entrepreneur who
announced his run for president way back in June 2017, dropped out of
the 2020 presidential race

D

OL:
What Alexander says doesn’t matter because he is retiring.
However, I did see a CNN wag questioning Dershowitz and quoting what Alexander said about the abuse of power charge.
For some reason people think he did order. Biden investigation .
This is the false Dem mantra and some Repubs fall for the lies.

John S

Buckeye, I would have taken the tablet to Youbreakifix. They are very reasonable, and I would have reduced the chance of killing myself.

D

Jane:
I am stunned by the stupidity of these House managers.
An example:
Jeffries saying Steele dossier ok because Hillary paid for it.
Schiff making up parody conversations about Zelensky and Putin and President Trump.

Buckeye

Interestingly, the battery pack was warm to the touch for three days, even being left outside.

The recycling garbage guys took it off my hands.

Robin,

Thank you for that awesome video of "Do You Hear the People Sing?" Very inspiring and a reminder of all of the British things that we have loved!

At the Human Trafficking Appearance:

This is a HUGE statement.

Look at the resolve on the President and Vice President's faces.

This is what has them trying to stop our President. https://t.co/0OnTKCY2tT

At the SOTU I want President Trump to stand there vindicated of these false charges.
Durban, Brown and Blumenthal want to deprive him of that moment.
Don’t cave Mitch.
Force those suckers to vote to acquit today.

MissMarple2

America, look beyond the labels. You might be surprised by what you find.

Very neat and patriotic commercial! Video at link.

You're a real trooper, Jane! You'd think I should be able to listen to Schiff by now without blowing a gasket, but jeez. Can't wait to hear what the Times has up its dirty sleeves, though. How does Schiff explain his insider scoop? Let's hope that a vision of endless NYTimes articles being paraded through the Senate well is enough to solidify the no witnesses vote.

Jane

If you are wondering who to root for Sunday -Frank Clark, KC DE wore a Trump sweater or his Super Bowl press conference.

Old Lurker

I have the same disease, Buckeye. Drives Mrs. OL nuts. Do not ask me my policy about circuit breakers; that makes her crazy.

Which reminds me of a funny story I told here maybe ten years ago. Our property where I grew up had street lights on 8' poles dotted along the driveway and other roads on our property - maybe 40 of them all over the place. It being WV, the critters who worked for my Grandmother in the 30s who ran the wire from post to post buried it just a few inches down, well within reach of a shovel or other tool. So the wires got cut often and the lights after that point would not work.

I wasn't 5 like you were but I was not yet 10 and it was my job to find and fix all such shorts. This was before breakers so we had screw in fuses of course. Well I found it quite tedious to hike up the hill and search for a likely break, then hike back down to reinsert the fuse only to find, nope, that was not it. Repeat. Until I discovered if I bypassed the fuse (will not explain how to protect dummies who might read this) and waited five minutes, I could find the break by walking the line looking for smoke. Worked every time.

Simpler times.

Before OSHA.

Before lawyers.

When families still had lots of kids so they could lose a few dumb ones...

(I was probably 50 before I told my parents about my "trick" and they almost fainted.)

Here. Hold my beer.

Old Lurker

Maryrose "What Alexander says doesn’t matter because he is retiring."

But an awful lot of people pay attention to what he says, so "Sure, he was guilty on Count 1 but not worth firing him for that" is a terrible message. And Murkowski will be read as "Yes, he beat the rap because we in the Senate messed up the process..." is just as poor a message.

I stand on my claim yesterday that GOPe "moderates" are more dangerous to the Republic than are flat out Progs.

Rattlesnakes are "better" because they rattle and you can shoot them, but Copperheads are sneaky and quiet but will kill you anyway.

John S

OL, you are a "typical American", as the Bud ad shows. My hat is off to your creativity.

Gentlejim

I want to hang out with OL and buckeye. It sounds thhhrr... thhhhrr... thhhhrr... electrifying.

Barbara

How many of these boring speeches do we have to hear before this thing is put to bed?

Old Lurker

:-) John. Even today I have a trick for locating weak spots in my irrigations lines...

Old Lurker

Barbara, I did the math on Schumer's ten minute speech for each senator and figured they could just make the opening of the SOTU speech. What theater that would be!

Barbara

Yikes!

Thank you, OL.

Old Lurker

You know how the somber voice comes on before the curtain opens for a play or a ballet "In tonight's performance, the role of X will be played by Y..."

At the SOTU, right after the SoA shouts "Madame Speaker...", that voice would say "Before the main event, we need all Senators to stand and their votes counted. After the tally is recorded, the speech will either be delivered by Donald Trump or Mike Pence."

hrtshpdbox

senators to take 10 minutes apiece

That's 1000 minutes, which is what, like 16 hours? This is so historic and solemn, I'll definitely watch every minute of that.

Old Lurker

"which is what, like 16 hours"

16.666 but in Senate Time, that can be 3-5 calendar days.

JM Hanes

Hey guys, come on over to the new thread.

henry

Make them speak Sunday, ending by the Super Bowl postgame show.

D

Is it for sure each Senator is going to get 10minutes?

clarice

WE'LL SEE HOW CREATIVE OL IS WHEN I SHARE MY OL FILE WITH MRS OL. ;)

OL, I am going crazy trying to imagine how you find weak spots in your irrigation lines. Can you enlighten us?
