Why is Adam Schiff appearing anywhere near a camera or microphone to discuss his "investigation"? This is the guy who couldn't find anything wrong with the FBI FISA application to surveil Carter Page. That FBI bellyflop was back in the news today, but let me hand the mic to Matt Taibbi in the Rolling Stone with his thoughts on the Horowitz report and the media meltdown.

Carried over from old thread —
For what it is worth I think that there are a lot of Dems who would not be happy to see Bernie win. He is not a team player or party man (same could be said of Trump) and I think they fear he would wreck the economy and do great damage to the Democrats “brand.”

Well, yes, Theo, but they would blame Trump for the first couple of succeeding administrations.

I feel for Frederick when he goes into professional life. He is a team player, football and Crew. You don’t do either of those sports as an introvert. As a result he has developed a strong measure of team work and close personal relationships. One reason he fell out of tennis and golf where he was promising was the lack of team work and development of personal relationships.
And when his football and crew mates have free time they are playing each other on Xbox or PS4.

True. If an asteroid hit the earth they would blame Trump. And, as I said before, if Trump came up with a cure for cancer, MSNBC would run 257 segments on how he put health care workers out of jobs.
Posted by: Theo | January 24, 2020 at 06:06 PM
Theo,
I dispute the idea that Trump isn't a team player/party man. He has built a very good team, and those who are on it (and there are a LOT) are sticking with him.
These people have built web sites, started podcasts, made memes and videos, created t-shirts and other items, and more. Some are registering voters. When you go to a rally, you realize everyone is on the team, even if you didn't realize it at first.

Anyone remember how much Bill Clinton resisted subpoenas in HIS impeachment?
Slick and his shyster lawyers claimed executive privilege for everything including many cases where it obviously didn't apply and only delayed things and added to the legal bills that The Beast whined about. Ol' Yeller said DJT was a model of transparency by comparison in dealing with Mueller.
Schiff, Nadler and the rest must hold their constituents in contempt by lying about this.

Interesting. It appears to me that their “brand” is increasingly openly commie. Why would they fear wrecking the economy? That’s their no-so-subtle-anymore goal. Show me one sane Dem in the party. I’ll wait.

We need to have Joe Mantegna and William H. Macy (two classic Mamet actors) do an empty-stage script-reading of the impeachment hearings, but as rewritten by David Mamet.
Mantegna: "Is it?"
Macy: "Is it what?"
Mantegna: "Treason?"
Macy: "Is what treason"
Mantegna: "Trump. The whole thing."
Macy: "The WHOLE thing?"
Mantegna: "The whole thing."
Macy: "Yeah, I think it's treason, why not, of course it's treason."
Mantegna: "But where? Where is the treason?"
Macy: "I don't know, why are you bugging me?"
Mantegna: "Maybe it is treason, but it's not the same 'it.' "
Macy: "What do you mean?"
Mantegna: "Maybe -- just maybe -- the impeachment itself is the treason."
Macy: "Do ya think so?"
Mantegna: "Maybe I do."
Macy: "Well then, maybe I do too."

Ok JMH, at your request:
If I had to rank reasons why Americans are lonely, workplace culture wouldn't be near the top. The list would be more like: Internet/social media, massive volume of home entertainment options, decline of the intact, large nuclear/extended family, decline of the church, decline of civic organizations and civic engagement, deterioration of public gathering spaces, decline of neighborhood friendliness in favor of a heightened "sense of privacy," deterioration of all public pastimes.
In the old days, there wouldn't be much on TV especially on weekends. People went to ball games, played softball, bowled, went to church, went to Elks Club, went to choir practice, kids played outside, adults played ball with kids outside, people went downtown and walked around to get some social time, folks had lunch in the local cafe after church, people participated in volunteer organizations, everyone went to school functions instead of only the parents of the involved kids, etc. etc.
Now people stay home and watch Netflix and play videogames and look at Reddit and Buzzfeed and Tic Toc 19 nights out of 20. Is it any wonder they're lonely?

It makes me think we going to need some truly out-of-the-box social thinking, or perhaps social entrepreneurs, to go about helping people make connections. I'm not saying that very well, but Netflix and video games and the internet are not going anywhere, so where do we go from there?
My real life social connections have evolved as our circumstances change, but my core group has always been people who share my interests - a solid group of knitters, people who like to visit while walking dogs, skaters and paddle boarders.
I can't tell you how many women I've taught to knit who have taken it up because they want to hang out with other knitters. They like knitting, but they love the community.

I will upset some people for saying this, but Schiff and his fans are NOT “out of their minds.” They have a different worldview — the lens through which they see the world - than we do.
To them, the highest values are diversity, inclusion, economic equality (or something like that) and social justice (whatever that means). To them, Republicans represent racism, the patriarchy, the rich (never mind Soros, Steyer, Bloomberg et al) and repression. Trump is particularly obnoxious to them because on top of everything else he is personally repulsive to their style and values. (Bill Maher came around to see Romney as an honorable gentleman with whom he disagreed, but Trump is beyond the pale.)
If you look at the world the way they do, of course Trump should be removed from power. Any excuse will do.
We see the world very differently. We judge people by the content of their character and their actual accomplishments and not their demographic box. We see economic success as mostly the result of innovation and hard work and providing social value, not stealing from others.
It’s almost impossible to change anyone’s worldview. And unless you do — or they change yours — each side is going to find the other incomprehensible. Or maybe nuts. Arguing about quid pro quo or Rudy’s associations or whatever is pointless.
We are all just talking past each other.

The two sides are in no way comparable and it is not simply a difference of worldview.
They don't see the real world and their project is to build an even less real [and impossible] one by hook or by crook. Those values you mentioned are secondary to their real project.

Ignatz —
I agree with you. Not all world views are subject to equal deference and respect. I believe that my worldview is the correct one and the closer one comes to sharing it the more enlightened one is. You are by that measure a whole lot more enlightened than Schiff & Co.
I don’t know who Hoffer and Burnham are. I am not proud of this ignorance. Perhaps you could help me overcome it.
My point remains is that they are not “nuts.” They see the world through a lens that I think is very flawed. But the only way to persuade them is to get them to re examine that lens and that is incredibly difficult.

“John Innes Clark Hare, paraphrasing Alexis de Tocqueville, wrote in 1889: ‘A decline of public morals in the United States would probably be marked by the abuse of the power of impeachment as a means of crushing political adversaries or ejecting them from office.’ What House Democrats are doing is not only unfair to Mr. Trump and a threat to all his successors. It is an attempt to overrule the constitutional process for selecting the president and thus subvert American democracy itself. For the sake of the Constitution, it must be decisively rejected. If Mr. Trump’s policies are unpopular or offensive, the remedy is up to the people, not Congress.”

Was it Shakespeare that said "He has shot his bolt."?

There is a very simple explanation for US v THEM.
They are FULL COMMIES. Every word they say is a LIE.
They and their "party", were once rivals. They SHIT AND PISSED all over themselves, painted their SMELLY ASSES into corner, and decided going BATSHIT CRAZY was preferable to making peace.
These same FREAKS, made the point of DESTROYING US, SO that we would NEVER rise again.
TOUCHE.

Schiff today laid bare the liberal hysteria motivating impeachment. Talked repeatedly about a “coup,” said @realDonaldTrump
was a Russian success beyond any achieved in the Cold War! Again said election results can’t be trusted. This is insane.

Pres Obama refused to provide lethal aid to Ukraine. His team didn't want to upset Putin.
Pres Trump provided lethal aid to Ukraine regardless of whether or not it would upset Putin.
