I wouldn't presume to speak for Ignatz, but I know I could never do what Clarice does. Week after week, year after year, she digests the news, picks out salient issues, makes unnoticed connections, collects relevant comments from all of the web, and pours it all into a column that is both enlightening and entertaining. Every. Single. Sunday. without fail, and only an occasional vacation. It's a remarkable talent that takes a special kind of commitment. I have often wondered how in the world she manages to keep so many balls in the air at one time!

Speaking of which, Clarice, I was appalled by the description of Chinese hygienic "barbarity." Just goes to show you that reading about another world only takes you so far. A couple of years ago, I did a small survey of where most of the biggest pandemics have originated, and it seems that even some of those that we associate with Africa, actually came to life in China/East Asia. Unfortunately that info is currently lost in my files, but I'll post it if I find it.

I wondered why that might be, and ending up thinking that perhaps it's because the Chinese tended to live in closer quarters to their pigs and chickens, as perfect vectors, longer than people did in the west. Add in hygiene-free living and eating anything that moves, and you've got a perfect pandemic storm. Of course, the French will eat almost anything, too, though at least they dress it up a bit.

Your second Pieces paragraph, toting up the Democrats "postfactual" sins, was an equally appalling political stew. I get so angry, that I often have to walk away from any kind of news completely. I appreciate everybody who manages to stick it out and report back!

Cindi McCain has worked on this cause for several years. To me, for her to casually throw out that "We all knew what Epstein was up to" is simply unacceptable. If she didn't know what he was like before, then she at LEAST should have been aware after his first arrest, or at least his second one, and should have chosen her words more carefully.

The 2016 Iowa R result was interesting. Cruz in first and Trump in second place, but each of them received more votes than any previous R candidate.

I missed MM's post earlier, but I presume this is referring to Obama's making them civil service so that they couldn't be fired by Trump. I recall reading that he did that. This is another thing that if he did by executive order, Trump should be able to undo by executive order. It's outrageous that Obama could have tied the hands of his successor in this way.

i've never seen any good reporting on the issue, but i was under the impression that they went though the federal government hiring process so they would be protected by civil service rules and the merit system protection board.

the congress needs to get off their dead ass and put nothing but 'fire them' hanging judges on the mspb (like judge harrison in used cars) ...
