The context, of course, is the Trump administration’s standing up to China’s dictators. Like Toto, Trump has pulled back the curtain on the Chinese fraud. To coin a phrase, one might say that China’s economic “juggernaut” is in fact a paper tiger.
The second word of the second sentence is a hyperlink to Clarice’s Pieces from last Sunday.
I wouldn't presume to speak for Ignatz, but I know I could never do what Clarice does. Week after week, year after year, she digests the news, picks out salient issues, makes unnoticed connections, collects relevant comments from all of the web, and pours it all into a column that is both enlightening and entertaining. Every. Single. Sunday. without fail, and only an occasional vacation. It's a remarkable talent that takes a special kind of commitment. I have often wondered how in the world she manages to keep so many balls in the air at one time!
Speaking of which, Clarice, I was appalled by the description of Chinese hygienic "barbarity." Just goes to show you that reading about another world only takes you so far. A couple of years ago, I did a small survey of where most of the biggest pandemics have originated, and it seems that even some of those that we associate with Africa, actually came to life in China/East Asia. Unfortunately that info is currently lost in my files, but I'll post it if I find it.
I wondered why that might be, and ending up thinking that perhaps it's because the Chinese tended to live in closer quarters to their pigs and chickens, as perfect vectors, longer than people did in the west. Add in hygiene-free living and eating anything that moves, and you've got a perfect pandemic storm. Of course, the French will eat almost anything, too, though at least they dress it up a bit.
Your second Pieces paragraph, toting up the Democrats "postfactual" sins, was an equally appalling political stew. I get so angry, that I often have to walk away from any kind of news completely. I appreciate everybody who manages to stick it out and report back!

I've begun to suspect it may be a bit of both. I don't think TM has updated his site in any way for at least a decade or considerably more, so it's hard to know whose software is not playing nicely. Things just get progressively more erratic.
MY GOODNESS, JMH! Thank you. It's not false modesty on my part to say I could not do that without the bright thoughts (and links) JOMers post here.I've said it before, and I mean it--I have the greatest research team and think tank to work with me.

Noted: Chas Martin of PJ media has examined the available medical stats (he's posting in Instapundit comments) and concludes that the rates of infection and the death rate suggest we don't need to worry here in the US.
Of course the stats are fragmentary and in some cases, no doubt, "massaged" by gov't. That said, the corona virus situation appears to feel to him like SARS/H1N1 from a decade ago in which no or few Americans died.
Cindi McCain has worked on this cause for several years. To me, for her to casually throw out that "We all knew what Epstein was up to" is simply unacceptable. If she didn't know what he was like before, then she at LEAST should have been aware after his first arrest, or at least his second one, and should have chosen her words more carefully.
She’s just telling the truth. They DID all know what Epstein was up to - everyone in high political circles, everyone in the NY big money scene, everyone in the MSM, everyone in Hollywood.
They all knew he was a pedophile and a predator and a rapist, and they didn’t care one goddamn bit. Not one of them. They took his money, went to his parties, flew on his jet, made polite talk with him at social events, and just didn’t give a crap about the teenage girls who were being rapes and worse by him and his associates (when they themselves weren’t taking part, of course).
As an incredibly wealthy woman in her own right and the wife of a powerful politician, Cindy McCain was in a position to actually public ally call Epstein out at any point over the last decade - and be heard, loudly. She couldn’t be bothered, and that by itself earns her a place in hell as far as I’m conferences.

Reports are that basketball great Kobe Bryant and three others have been killed in a helicopter crash in California. That is terrible news!
On the R side it's not so informative: The last three winners have been Cruz, Santorum (by a hair over Romney), and Huckaby.
The 2016 Iowa R result was interesting. Cruz in first and Trump in second place, but each of them received more votes than any previous R candidate.
This was the first actual-vote indicator that suggested to me that Trump would take the nomination and the general, as Cruz wasn't expected to do as well in NH or SC.

I missed MM's post earlier, but I presume this is referring to Obama's making them civil service so that they couldn't be fired by Trump. I recall reading that he did that. This is another thing that if he did by executive order, Trump should be able to undo by executive order. It's outrageous that Obama could have tied the hands of his successor in this way.

Obama wasn't the first to move appointees over to civil service slots. It's been going on for some time, largely I believe in Democrat administrations.

Nadler won’t miss much. No crime, no foul.

Another Bob, clarice,
Looking around to see if it's true. I am looking for my old dictionary with a copy of the Constitution because I no longer trust Google.

i've never seen any good reporting on the issue, but i was under the impression that they went though the federal government hiring process so they would be protected by civil service rules and the merit system protection board.
the congress needs to get off their dead ass and put nothing but 'fire them' hanging judges on the mspb (like judge harrison in used cars) ...

Miss M, it is not in Article 1, Section 3 which details impeachment.
Nor in the 22 nd Amendment setting term limits on the President.
It is a fine joke that will cause leftists to read the Constitution

if it were in fact nullified, would all official acts be nullified? canna worms. good thing not so.

WaPo reporter/space cadet reposts a story about Kobe’s old rape allegations at hour after the reports of his death.
Expresses (feigns?) surprise at the vitriol that follows.
Claims victim status.

i'm still trying to figure out why i can't get my gateway to work ... a bizarre timing issue.
not that anyone asked but i think it is a software issue ... the software group says it should work and the hardware group says i either set something up wrong or that it is software.
mostly everyone except my management is ignoring me.

and everyone wants to know why the thing isn't finished yet, i've been working on it for almost a week.

The left are finding out that it's very hard to retain the fiction that 🍊 man is bad for the country when all the evidence points to 🍊 man is good for the country. After three years of the left being 100% wrong about everything, some people are catching on and figuring it out.
