I'm not going to belabor this, but today I also submitted and had accepted my plan for documenting and reporting of potential research misconduct.

Tomorrow I try to file my Q4 Federal Financial Report for grant draws. Then I have a grant closeout to do, which typically is about 20 pages.

There are more to do along these lines too.

People often think that grant money is free, but there is a real cost to pay for them too.

Buckeye,

One major difference is that Research Universities are set up to do the sorts of things I describe. Yes, you have to pay overhead for it, but most of the things I have to do, the Universities do as a matter of course.

That includes grant submission, password rotations, keeping up with solicitations, and the all the rest of it. They do it pretty well overall.

I'm just not large enough to be able to pay the support staff, so I do most of it myself.

In spite of all of this nonsense I still do get good research done.

The Infamous Ignatz

--The cat skinner costume starts with a leather apron, Ig, but you can go from there!-

For those who don't know, despite the Monty Python jokes, I was never actually a lumberjack. In the trade that refers to a guy who fells the trees.
A cat skinner is a guy who drives a bulldozer [often built by Caterpillar]. Whether the skinner part refers to a guy who can make a road so smooth it seems skinned or is a corruption of skidder which is what you do with the logs you're pulling behind your cat I don't know.
I was also a loader operator. The etymology of this one is even trickier. There is a school of thought that it derives from a fellow who operates a loader but I myself find that dubious.

Asked in a Bloomberg News interview if the U.S. would work with a government dominated by Hezbollah, one of Iran’s most important allies in the Middle East, Mr. Pompeo demurred.

“I don’t know the answer to that yet,” he said. “We’re prepared to engage, provide support, but only to a government that’s committed to reform.”

Media Stupidity Is Uniting Left and Right

After CNN’s debate ambush and MSNBC’s body-language analysis, loathing of media is becoming a crossover phenomenon

"The reason people are abandoning traditional political solutions on both sides of the political aisle is that most people can see how easy it is to put a thumb on the scale of such rosy Adam Smith market theory. They know companies buy regulatory and tax relief through political donations, offshore profits, export labor to unfree political zones like China, use central banking mechanisms to obtain heavily subsidized capital, and dominate debate through investment in media.

About that last point: One of the areas where systematic unfairness is most visible is through the aggressive suckage of the establishment press."

"When a politician rises by talking about ending the rigged game, only to get a uniformly negative response in media outlets owned by some of the riggers, people make that obvious connection, even when the rhetoric is coming from someone like Donald Trump."

Lamentably, the 'progressive' leftwing no longer cares for legal tradition when it doesn't fit their pre-determined outcome. Then, Chief Justice Roberts is giving this sham process legitimacy. We are witnessing the deconstitutionalization of America.
