I'm not seriously expected to watch this, am I?
However, I am curious whether Chief Justice Roberts would endorse this view about Senate trials and super-subpoenas:
“With the backing of a subpoena authorized by the chief justice of the United States, you can end President Trump’s obstruction,” said Representative Zoe Lofgren of California, the first woman in history to speak on the Senate floor as an impeachment manager.
Awkward, since the role of the chief justice has been presented as ceremonial. If Roberts rules the motion for a subpoena to be in order does that mean that, if an executive privilege claim reaches the Supreme Court he has already taken a position?
Or... does it mean that the subpoena applies to a person but does not automatically over-ride all privilege claims? For example, suppose Rudy Giuliani is a subpoenaed Senate witness. I presume he could answer some questions, cite attorney-client on some, and perhaps his Fifth Amendment non-incrimination right on others. That would represent compliance with the subpoena, unless the Senate wanted to take his privilege claims to court and get a ruing that he is in contempt of the Senate for failing to answer some questions. I think.
I am highly confident that CJ Roberts does not intend to get sucked into this foodfight.
BONUS FANTASY: If there is a merciful G*d in Heaven, or if the showrunners and scriptwriters have some character, we will have a moment where Rudy is asked by one of the House managers if he is trying to show contempt for Congress. PLEASE, let Rudy channel his inner Mae West and reply, "Sir, I'm trying to hide it."
I should live so long.
I'm not going to belabor this, but today I also submitted and had accepted my plan for documenting and reporting of potential research misconduct.
Tomorrow I try to file my Q4 Federal Financial Report for grant draws. Then I have a grant closeout to do, which typically is about 20 pages.
There are more to do along these lines too.
People often think that grant money is free, but there is a real cost to pay for them too.

Buckeye,
One major difference is that Research Universities are set up to do the sorts of things I describe. Yes, you have to pay overhead for it, but most of the things I have to do, the Universities do as a matter of course.
That includes grant submission, password rotations, keeping up with solicitations, and the all the rest of it. They do it pretty well overall.
I'm just not large enough to be able to pay the support staff, so I do most of it myself.
In spite of all of this nonsense I still do get good research done.

--The cat skinner costume starts with a leather apron, Ig, but you can go from there!-
For those who don't know, despite the Monty Python jokes, I was never actually a lumberjack. In the trade that refers to a guy who fells the trees.
A cat skinner is a guy who drives a bulldozer [often built by Caterpillar]. Whether the skinner part refers to a guy who can make a road so smooth it seems skinned or is a corruption of skidder which is what you do with the logs you're pulling behind your cat I don't know.
I was also a loader operator. The etymology of this one is even trickier. There is a school of thought that it derives from a fellow who operates a loader but I myself find that dubious.

Asked in a Bloomberg News interview if the U.S. would work with a government dominated by Hezbollah, one of Iran’s most important allies in the Middle East, Mr. Pompeo demurred.
“I don’t know the answer to that yet,” he said. “We’re prepared to engage, provide support, but only to a government that’s committed to reform.”

Media Stupidity Is Uniting Left and Right
After CNN’s debate ambush and MSNBC’s body-language analysis, loathing of media is becoming a crossover phenomenon
"The reason people are abandoning traditional political solutions on both sides of the political aisle is that most people can see how easy it is to put a thumb on the scale of such rosy Adam Smith market theory. They know companies buy regulatory and tax relief through political donations, offshore profits, export labor to unfree political zones like China, use central banking mechanisms to obtain heavily subsidized capital, and dominate debate through investment in media.
About that last point: One of the areas where systematic unfairness is most visible is through the aggressive suckage of the establishment press."
"When a politician rises by talking about ending the rigged game, only to get a uniformly negative response in media outlets owned by some of the riggers, people make that obvious connection, even when the rhetoric is coming from someone like Donald Trump."

Lamentably, the 'progressive' leftwing no longer cares for legal tradition when it doesn't fit their pre-determined outcome. Then, Chief Justice Roberts is giving this sham process legitimacy. We are witnessing the deconstitutionalization of America.
Again Roberts is an illustration, not only of what a disaster the Bush Crime Family was to the country, of how the left has hijacked Supreme Court confirmation hearings to only talk about their favorite issues and exclude everything else. It happened in the Kavanaugh hearings as well.

Trivia: Who owned the Lehigh River?
From the 1830s to 1960s, the Lehigh River in eastern Pennsylvania, was owned by the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Co., making it the only privately owned river in the United States.

My understanding of coronaviruses is that they’re fairly common, and ordinarily no more of a problem than the flu, which can kill, but only those with other physical problems.
Just sheer numbers? Or is there something else?

AB, party what Greenfield says, but I think the city officials were also influenced by Class. These were in their minds throw away kids not worthh sticking their necks out for. The Brits are like that,

damaging information, including the names of individuals linked to Jeffrey Epstein's sex trafficking case, are at risk of being publicly released.
Good!
Release it all. Drag every friend of Epstein through the mud. Burn it all down!

clarice,
I think that is why they were blind-sided by Brexit. When my sister and I were in the UK for the Queen's Jubilee, every tour guide, shopkeeper, waitress, etc. that we ran across had caustic words to say about the EU.
We were not surprised at all when the results of the vote came in. But the British government was shocked. I think it was because most of the movers and shakers never had anything to do with the "lower classes."
VERY similar to the election of Donald Trump, if you ask me.

Clarice, one of the interesting things to see is how the leftist hierarchies are playing out. (And how lefties are unintentionally creating conflicts between their interest groups.)
Not giving offense to the Muslims was the clear preference over lower and middle class children.

Why is everyone bent out of shape about Jeter not being unanimous?
I'm not. He deserved to be in on the first ballot, but certainly not unanimously.
Only Mariano was unanimous and I raise an eyebrow at that too. Cy Young only got 75%, Fingers 81%, Eck who was the Ur-Closer 83%.
You're wrong here. Mariano unquestionably deserved to go in unanimously. He was the greatest closer in the history of the game (even granting that closers only existed since the late 70's, really), and even better in the postseason than in the regular season.

"US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin says Greta Thunberg can give economic advice after she goes to college"
============================================
I have difficulty sleeping so I queue up several speeches and presidential briefings in the evening on You Tube. Very often, I wake to a committee hearing and this poor man is being berated by Maxine Waters or some other democrat dim bulb on economics or when he is going to give them the tax returns of the Trump Organization, as if Maxine would even understand them.
Mnuchin can't say this to Maxine without being held in contempt, but I am glad he can say it to the sour-faced Norwegian.
