Good morning!

Jack is Back!

Yogi was correct in that his house was inside a oval, you could go left or right at the fork and end up there. It was in Montclair, NJ.

Comanche Voter

Hometown honey? It's a little early to be hitting the Scotch Tom. Now hometown harridan, I could go with.

Captain Hate

Thank God for Triple A. When I drove Teddy to the park in all the snow when I pulled into a parking place I heard a sickening crunch that didn't sound like fluffy snow. Went to back out, no movement. Tried to rock it and nada. Seems like the idiot snow plow guy shoved a huge rock right in the middle of the spot on which the front of my car was suspended. I tried calling Triple A and it went right to voicemail with a message to email the guy which put me in an even worse mood. To skip some very irritating intermediate points, particularly phone calls from my wife, I ended up at home on Triple A's website and very expeditiously scheduled someone to come out in an hour.

I got back there early and Ty was right on time and figured out how to lift up the front in very cramped quarters (very rarely are my screwups easily resolved) and back it off the rock, which was even more out in the middle of where it wasn't supposed to be than I originally thought. There was no sign that the damn rock screwed anything like the oil pan or worse up so all should be well. I just wish I'd have had more cash in my wallet to tip Ty with.

Repeat of no importance from the end of the last thread:

I have to run out to the store because I am out of dish soap.

What a pain! It's cold as heck outside but I have to be able to wash dishes! I am mad I forgot it when I went to the store the other day.

Dog walking is fraught with risk CH.

Yesterday the temps dropped to 15 here. Of course, those are the days Poogan wants to take loooong walks.

So after all the puddles froze, we got half inch of snow.

During the last walk of the evening, when it was 0 dark thirty, I forgot about the ice now hidden under the snow.

Slipped and fell, next thing I know Poogan is standing over me like "is this a new game?"

No injuries, in fact today nothing even aches. Fingers crossed that is the story tomorrow.

A few months ago I renewed my drivers license at a Triple A office. First time I didn't have to wait for hours at a DMV office.

Captain Hate

Buckeye,

The good news was that Mrs H got me some full length Muck boots for the Alaska trip, which were totally unnecessary but that's another story, which I wore for the first time and they kept me very warm, over and beyond the heat involved in compiling a list of future severe corporal punishment victims.

Btw I somehow dialed the wrong 800 number. Multiple redials.

In Ahia, all vehicle title (taxing) activities must occur in a State BMV (Bureau of Motor Vehicle) office.

There aren't many in most counties so the lines are long. Usually you get behind a "runner" from a car dealership that is doing a dozen vehicles at a time:-(

License plates and driver's licenses are done at BMV contractor agencies. Lots of evidence that many palms get greased before you get a contract. Some are pretty efficient, but the lines still tend to be long.

from the previous thread:

Simply ask mouthy Dem politicians and ak-tuh-vists to define their terms "racist" and "racism."

That simple ask will divert attention onto their epithetic misuse of terms they're unable to define.

Instead direct bright stage lights upon their pathetic, recurrent, and media-dominant misuses of language which they justify as means to "bring about change" (brainwash).

The impact makes them freeze like a stunned bat. The simple ask is as reliable as gravity: they will tangle themselves in their nets intended for trapping their usual victims.

Agitation does wonders inside a washing machine but little to enlighten human beings likely to clean up their habitual behaviors.

I'm offering this as "evidenced-based" knowledge from experience dealing with those posterior portal denizens for over 40 years " out there."

In fact, the subsidy is a major reason why we’re starting to see more Tesla’s tooling around the Twin Cities, but there’s a catch: the subsidy begins to disappear after a manufacturer has sold 200,000 units, and Tesla has hit this threshold, meaning the growth of Elon’s EV’s could slow moving forward.

Home!

Buckeye,

Once when I had a huge coon hound rescue I took her out at night in weather like this.

She saw a rabbit, bayed, and gave chase across the back yard, pulling me onto my stomach and DRAGGING me across the inch of snow over frozen grass. I bet she dragged me almost 100 feet. I was afraid to let go of the leash because I was afraid she would take off and jump over the chain link fence.

She finally came to a stop and curiosity caused her to come back and sniff at me, to see why I was not walking behind her. LOL! I finally got myself up and got her back in the house. On THAT escapade, I was pretty sore!

I am more inclined to believe that 3rd world incompetence led to the warehouse full of unused FEMA crap. Ever watch a news story of these clowns helping out at a car wreck or a building collapse? 10 people pulling at one injured body then they all run in different directions once they free the victim. Everyone screaming at each other, to boot.

If that warehouse was part of a greater scheme, the people that knew about it would have looted it by now. They simply forgot it was there, IMO. Puerto Rico fires one person when there has to be a list of names on separate manifests along the path of those shipments. Probably 20+ people need to lose their jobs due to incompetence.

Buckeye, I feel your pain when reading about your fall. I had a right hip replacement in August. Three days later I was walking with a cane. I opened the back door to let the dog out, and the cat ran out before i could stop him. I stepped outside, leaned my cane against the house, and stooped to pick up the cat. Trying to stand up holding the cat, i lost my balance and fell backward. The two seconds it took for me to hit the concrete was the longest of my life. As I fell I had time to recriminate and yell at myself for being so stupid. For days I waited to find out that I had messed up the hip implant. But I am fine now, even playing tennis. Good luck to you.

Rocco

Buckeye,

I had no idea until my wife reminded me that I needed to renew. In any case it was a pleasant experience for me, compared to the old RMV clerks.

There is a restaurant in downtown Charleston, SC like many, in a restored home.

Mrs. Buckeye and I stayed at the Mills House hotel for a couple days on our honeymoon, it's right across the street.

At that time it was recently opened and we heard the story of the former owner's dog, who wouldn't leave. He hung out on the front porch and begged food from the construction guys.

So all things considered, makes perfect sense that the restaurant is named "Poogan's Porch".

Poogan is buried in the front yard with a headstone and everything.

A picture of Poogan hands on the wall and when my dog was a pup, other than coloring, looked just like him.

All things considered, no choice in naming my dog:)

The latest fake news running around the internet is a quote by Alan Dershowitz from 1998 saying that impeachment does not require a crime. I hesitate to link it, both because it's CNN and when I opened it I had to sit through a lengthy ad. In any case, the quote conveniently cuts off Dershowitz, so it's not clear what his full statement was, but more important, he doesn't say you can (much less should) impeach a President for anything or nothing. He talks about a significant level of corruption that genuinely endangers the country. But I'd like to hear the rest of what he said at the time, as I suspect it doesn't help the Democrats' case.

https://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2020/01/20/alan-dershowitz-1998-doesnt-have-to-be-crime-to-impeach.cnn/video/playlists/this-week-in-politics/

And sure enough, here's a longer excerpt showing that Dershowitz said in 1998 pretty much the same thing he's saying now. CNN cut off before that part.

After I listened to my podcast, I read a chapter in the Wead book about election night.

Things I learned:

1. The networks knew he had won much earlier in the evening. CNN (of course) held out calling Pennsylvania until after 3AM, so Trump's acceptance speech wasn't seen by many (including me, because I believed the Fox people, who believed the bad polling).

2. Hillary had rented several floors pf a hotel which faced Trump Tower, so she could see it when "it came crumbling down." In other words, she wanted to GLOAT. I have NO compassion for her.

3. Brad Parscale was positive they would win a week earlier, and his numbers were verified by AP around midnight on election night. THAT guy is a genius.

Which reminds me of the three things I became aware of here in NYC. First two are Shakespeare productions ("Hamlet" and "Timon of Athens") where, natch, the lead roles are being played by women. How original. And then I see that the NYC ID now allows applicants to "pick their own gender marker":

the gender marker can be issued with three options: male, female, or no gender listed. You just mark on the application your desired gender designation and that’s your gender on the ID!

Apparently in NYC you can also change the gender on your birth certificate to either male, female, or X.
