Ocurrence and reocurrence of kidney stones---

Prevention.

Once each year juice and consume the meat and rind of 1 medium peeled watermelon (cantelope, honeydew, casabah dont work). consume the juice over 3 days.

Maintenance.

Consume 1 quart of organic unsweetened cranberry juice. too tart to drink straight. Dilute 1/8th cup in 1 liter water. Avoid drinking it in carbonated soda water because carbonation makes the liquid an-aerobic. Your water intake must be aerobic to oxygenate the blood.

Minimum H20 daily intake: 64oz.

Theo:

It seems to me that the reason you have to resort to all these tortured "thought experiments," which I find pretty condescending, is because the shoe is so rarely on the other foot, you have to rely on imaginary examples. I have not been disagreeing because I didn't understand your point, which is simple enough to grasp — too simplistic, really. I freely admit that we are all human beings, with much in common. I've got well meaning family and friends who span most of the political spectrum. They are not evil people.

Even if philosophy colors perception, however, which I certainly think it can, that still doesn't mean that liberals and conservatives are reflections of each other. Accepting the mirror concept, itself, can also distort your perception of reality. The two party political system can disguise the depth, range and shape of differences too.

"I don’t quite understand how you think we are different other than in our ideas but this is enough for now."

Once again, you dismiss the central point as a mere incidental! We are driven by ideas! From our very inception, we were a culture impelled by ideas about the human condition that were fundamentally different from the prevailing wisdom and most of history. A two party system may marshal forces in a relatively efficient way, but we are not simply people of good will choosing between two equally beneficial approaches. Colonialism and liberty were not just two ways of doing the same thing. The world of choices we make are not all matters upon which two reasonable people can simply disagree and go our own ways, secure in the knowledge everybody else is just like us, except for their opposite ideas.

Here'a a thought experiment for you. The scene is Independence Hall in Philadelphia, 1776. Which representative are you? Which arguments are you making?

As far as I am concerned, Bloomberg is a phony and thinks he can buy the presidency, and his motivation is simply to protect his Chinese investments as well as stick it to Donald Trump.

Not interested in him and I oppose his nomination. He's not any more acceptable than any of the rest of them.

That is my great fear as well, SBW.

We all saw what happened during the redistricting process in California years ago. The Democrats took control of the process and rammed through their version of redistricting.

Don't go onto that battlefield unless you are sure that your forces are both willing and capable of fighting. There are just too many Republican squishes in positions of power at this point in time.

It's not really a "flight ban" Jack. All regularly scheduled commercial flights are good to go, as well as the bigger cargo carriers.

Well, there's this:

"ED OIG special agents exercise full law enforcement authority – carrying firearms, applying for and executing arrest and search warrants, and taking sworn statements. Our special agents also employ the full spectrum of traditional law enforcement techniques, such as conducting surveillance and undercover operations."

re worrying oneself sick at night...

that ditty i put up yesterday about Vermont is in the past. but the ripple effects on life as i've known it since then led me through the valley of death.

worry and grief plus traumatic stress exacted a serious toll which nearly took me out. i did much work around forgiveness and cleaned out every room of my inner house-- but still was made ill by the biochemical by products of that time in Hell.

my elder son, Noah Luke, was 12 when we went through the Vermont devastation and banishment from hire ed. he grew up watching me recuperate, recover, and reconfigure. last summer in the hospital after receiving the endocarditis/valve replacement news, Noah Luke revealed his understanding of what had evolved from the devastation.

i was focused on the good possibilty of dying on the table during what the docs were certain was going to require open heart surgery. and i was angry on the surface but masking a whole lotta hurt.

he'd been listening during our alone time in the hospital to my angry reflections. Vermont came up. i went quiet and Noah laid down the tightest line ever spoken to me by ANYBODY so far this lifetime:

"Yer dyin from a broken heart, man. Choose Life. Be a fuckin' hero."

My best thinkin' (churning) was leading me to an early grave. Even after doing a lotta things right the body was whipped. The God made Truth that's me was leaving if things didn't align with the Whole Truth and Nothing But.

I'd been taught and shown how to pray for others but somehow i'd confused my lessons on selflessness so much that i'd forgotten to ask for help from GrandFather, to put the Great Mystery to work in my life, supplanting my penchant to indulge in aftermaths, the perpetual Long Dark Night (Knight?) of the Soul.

The runup to surgery, and now beyond, finds me using time to think about God, the absolutes of all Life, Truth, Love, Intelligence, Principle, Soul, and Spirit.

Worry and confusion have vanished. My body is spared perpetual recurrences.

The art of stepping back while working this Giant Jigsaw is such a simple way.

Thanks for opening this thread up, MT.

Anonamom,

So sorry to read about your experience with a kidney stone. I went through that about a year or so ago, and it's not an experience I ever want to go through again.

I was hospitalized for two days until they could be certain that the stone was gone. It was about 2mm in size, but it felt like Plymouth Rock.

After the discussion with the doctor, I did a good deal of reaseach on the types, causes and prevention of stones. There are two key kinds of stones. One is formed by oxalates (oxalic acid) found in spinach, dates, just about any dried fruit — you can find lists of these on the Internet. Another kind is formed by Uric acid which is a by product of eating meats and just about any kind of protein. So, if your diet is high protein, low carb, you might be at greater risk of producing stones.

What to do? Or more like what do I do to deal with this?

Drink lots and lots of WATER — 8 or more 8 oz. glasses each day.
Cut back on meat, chicken, fish, eggs. You can eat them, but in small portions.
Get a chart on friuts and vegetables that are high in oxylates. Easy to find on the Internet.

There are other by products of digestion that can cause stones, but oxalic acid or oxalates and uric acid seem to be the most common.

Lastly, watch the color of your urine output. It should be clear or just faintly yellow. Anything darker than that, start drinking lots of water!

Just remember, once you're a stone former, you have to take these precautions for the foreseeable future. I hope this helps a bit and that you never have a recurrence.

clarice

Every legal fight I have been in that was worth the effort, was a hard long slog. The more I look at it the more I realize Barr is stuck with a lot of second rate partisan lawyers he has to work around. Lieu and the US Attys office in DC dropped that ball on McCabe but there are other balls in the air and he's pitching them to people outside the beltway.

One last thing on kidney stones. There are foods/substances like calcium that can surround stones and remove them through the intestinal tract rather than the urinary tract. You can also find lists of these on the in as well. They do NOT recommend taking calcium tablets, but rather that you get the calcium through the foods you eat.

Extraneus

Clarice,

It is truly amazing how 2nd rate so many lawyers are. It's like it's enough to be a lawyer - nothing else matters. I learned that before I went to law school when I dealt with lawyers all the time. I tried to use it to my advantage from then on.

It's just as important to recognize the good ones.

Barbara

clarice

Thank you, CH.
In thinking about the things Barr can do where change of venue seems impossible, is to put some fire under the DC US Attys office. I remember one potential juror was struck because she had 3 decades before done some low level work for Reagan--I assume the prosecution moved she be struck and I haven't an inclination to go re-read the transcript, but if so that was wrong esp in light of those with far closer associations to the Dems and Obama that the judge let in.

In other words, instead of just fighting for a feather in their cap, the prosecution must be more vigilant in working towards a more fair jury pool.It wouldn't hurt them to probe more deeply into bias of ALL jurors.

clarice

I'd actually go farther--in political cases against republicans they should go along now with defense motions for change of venue. (Of course they should have done that in the Stevens case, too.)

Manuel Transmission

Glad it triggered great discussions, KK.

Speaking of triggers, everyone knows that the JEF was the world’s greatest gun salesman. Well, the flip side is that Trump has unintentionally wiped out a goodly part of that industry. I just learned the details of the largest non-gov employer on the rock that had its doors padlocked early last year. It was Hardened Arms, makers of yet another AR-15 series of weapons. I think they specialized in the .300 Black which happens to accommodate the same action and mags, but a bigger barrel.

Anyway what I found out was that after Trump came in, they lost 19 of their dealers and eventually went under. One of our marina partners bought the building, but passed on several hundred thousands worth of new machine tools that went away for 10 cents on the dollar.

I was already cringing that the AR market was overbuilt when you look at all the home brew kits and 3D printing.

"Nothing like a cold cuppa condescension to start the day off."

Your 12:56 pm post, JMH, sent me to online dictionaries. Among definitions of condescension, I came upon the following: "an attitude of patronizing superiority, disdain."

How does my opinion on the possible negative effect of optimism in this context demonstrate an attitude of patronizing superiority? To whom do you think I am demonstrating an attitude of patronizing superiority? Those who disagree with me on the basis for optimism or pessimism, or the impact of optimism or pessimism in this context? I would have thought a discussion of optimism or pessimism in this context would reflect a good faith disagreement on the effect of the attitude one takes to these investigations on the various possible results (whether the results include big fish frying, meaningless administrative reform, or other results).

Good afternoon. For the newbies, the Daytona 500 is the Superbowl of racing. NASCAR is having a difficult time connecting to fans in the 21st century. If you're watching the pre-race show,it is obvious that NASCAR is hyping the new generation. The rookies look like they're about 12 years old. The veteran driver, Jimmie Johnson is a seven time champion and Lowe's pulled out of their sponsorship this year. Who are you or anyone else to tutor us on which form of demoralization we should embrace, for our own ostensible good?"

What is it about the way I expressed my opinion, JMH, that leads you to think I am purporting to tutor anyone? Is your opinion about Eeyorism in the second paragraph of your 2:33 PM post a good faith opinion, or is it an indication that you are purporting to tutor people on Eeyorism? Do you have some special expertise in discerning which strongly expressed opinions on JOM are opinions and which ones purport to tutor anyone?

Re your comment on me being in trouble because I resorted to a dictionary: I would have thought that my "resorting" to a dictionary would be viewed as making sure we were working from a common definition. I now must consult a dictionary again to look up "disclaimers", because I don't understand how my post had anything to do with disclaimers.

Re fighting cynicism: What am I being cynical about, JMH? I wouldn't have thought expressing my opinion on optimism and pessimism in this context had anything to do with cynicism.

Responding to Theo has been a challenge that I appreciate. It helps me clarify and arrange some of my own thoughts in ways I haven't done before. Writing something complex out requires a different thought process than passing comments, and the exercise itself can be edifying.

I also think that an idea that might not seem to pass muster can often stimulate an idea that does. If everyone made perfect arguments, there would be nothing left to argue. And I guess it's pretty obvious that I like a good argument.

PS If anyone cares to know what triggers me, you probably won't be surprised to hear that it's condescension. Since I'm not a leftist, however, I won't hold my breath till everyone gives it up.
