Hmm, I was on a roll until my spotty connection swallowed me whole.
Well, lets have an audience survey. Which new poll results has Democrat strategist more worried:
A) "NEW POLL: Satisfaction With U.S. at Highest It’s Ever Been Since 2005"
or
B) "ObamaCare favorability hits highest level: poll"
Which is worse news for Democrats - People are holding up OK in the Trump years, or their seemingly inevitable nominee is a socialist whose signature issue, Medicare For All, is losing salience?
They have a long, winding road to Milwaukee, where they will meet wrath and ruin. Maybe!
Dear God that royal ginger is as brainless as his grifter wife and mother.

Please post away. Early bird gets the TWIP. I'm in Newport News visiting a friend. Yesterday we visited the transportation museum at Ft Eustis. Wow. could spend days there. Sadly their railroad exhibit was closed.
Today we're crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and visiting Ft Monroe.
When I arrived on Thursday I brought with me their first snow; a couple inches that prettied things up without impeding traffic.

So Hoyden,
Did you drive through the pretty snow or land on it?

I bought KT's book. She deserves my money.
Note: She and her (patriot)* spouse spent "a couple of hundred of thousands of dollars" in legal fees.
*She was ready to throw in the towel; he said "Let them bankrupt us."
I’ve been struggling for the last hour, not sure I could be that generous.
Don’t tell Mrs. Buckeye:)

Buckeye, flew heavy metal via ATL. In a cruel twist MSP will be having fabulous weekend weather. It would have been my first flight in 2020.

City councilors in Cambridge, Massachusetts, have voted to protect illegal aliens from arrest when caught driving without a license.
But for us REGULAR Americans, WE get arrested and the United States Code shoved up our collective Strata Chacka Latta..

"But there is simply no way to rationally describe Obamacare as a “usurpation of power.” The law was passed by the duly elected representatives of the people and signed into law by the duly elected president."
Of couse there is. I'm standing behind this facade of government. A rational imperative for self-government.
You've made it obvious where you're choosing to stand.
Good luck!

no way to rationally describe Obamacare as a “usurpation of power.”
Usurpation is a red herring. It was an outrageous and excessive exercise of power.
It was a consolidation of power the reverse of what the founders intended where governing best governs least.

Much better description than usurpation.

Yankees!

tyrrany arises by degree through many hands as power consolidates into fewer.
there are many examples through history to illustrate this. one case, that needs no direct citation, shows
how duly elected officials turned over the keys WILLINGLY to the ultimate tyrant, ceding power to " a party", feeding the calm and quiet tide of mini-usurpations that made total consolidation ( the entire point- take it all- ultimately) probable.
usurpation may be understood as a Fidel or Hugo or Mugabe type of event. that phenom doesn't explain the slow boil type of "consolidation" being experienced now in the states.
thought experiment: the 1st and 2nd amendments disappear altogether or are hollowed out by duly elected officials and the courts.
consolidation of power and control or tyranny by usurpation? both. but! consolidation is an outcome--- usurpation American style is THE JUICE.
another: the right to face one's accusers in a court of law etc.
no blunt force law is rescinding that right. but even the POTUS is not exempt by this breach.
consolidation of power and excessive misuse of power are euphemistic palliatives to describe the usurpation of sovereign citizen powers. those will induce a rationalizing mode of thought to explain what one sees looking at the American facade of self-government from a seat in the audience.
another palliative is Theo's reductionist ploy in which these multiple tyrannies can be boiled down to be things "we might not like". then those are rationalized by reactive deflection, the perpetual "yeah but what about..." or 'we all do it.'
so here i am! now serving up the salmon steak of Usurpation of Power American Style...live backstage behind the facade of government.
Posted by: KevlarKid | February 22, 2020 at 01:51 PM
KK, I think you are fighting uphill against the commonly understood definition of usurpation.
Usurpation is more easily understood as when one illegitimately takes over a throne.
What is happening in the United States is basically mental rust, where the Constitution loses its meaning, principles have no foundation, schooling has failed, the value of past experience means nothing, words are corrupted, and corporate media can’t see it/doesn't care.
And that’s just the high points. To say that A usurped B suggests one villain, overlooking all the other malfeasance at work.
Posted by: sbwaters | February 22, 2020 at 02:20 PM
sbw- points taken. i'm not persuaded by them to concede. i'm offering this in good faith as i am certain you are.
Now about your point below and how it reminds me of a stunning discovery back in 1668. Your point:
"What is happening in the United States is basically mental rust, where the Constitution loses its meaning, principles have no foundation, schooling has failed, the value of past experience means nothing, words are corrupted, and corporate media can’t see it/doesn't care."
Redi in 1668 came up with a hypothesis to disprove the idea of spontaneous generation–specifically, the thought that maggots could come to life from meat. Redi observed that after meat sat out, flies would be attracted to it, and a few days after that maggots would appear.
Monarchy as sovereign was replaced by citizen sovereignty as the ultimate power in our sovereign State. it's not illogical to assert that a corrupt government ( the rotting meat of our two parties)will usurp sovereign power as designed.
