Still, John Lennon would be feeling the Bern if he were around today. It's not like Trump playing a Stones song at every rally despite the objections of Mick and Keith (which is way more fun!).

Vindman should love it in the back of beyond. No social events. No fancy Washington restaurants or parties. No opportunities for treason. When Biden falls, one of the lessons will be the inadvertent damage the MSM caused him by propping him up and mollycoddling him all these years. Voters saw something the MSM didn’t. MSM was easy on Biden, unlike their tough approach to Cheney or Cruz or most Rs. Reality matters.

Sadiq Khan Reveals "Diversity In Advertising" Winner; Features Zero White People

“The judging panel praised Nubian Skin for their bold and empowering campaign – celebrating different body types and skin tones which are underrepresented in advertising,” added Khan.

Respondents pointed out another body type and skin tone that is underrepresented in advertising – attractive white people – since Khan has banned such advertisements from being seen.

Last year, a Volkswagen commercial was also banned in the UK for violating “gender stereotypes” because it showed a woman caring for a baby. She was also white.

“London’s greatest strength is our diversity, so we challenged advertisers to produce ads that better represented our BAME communities,” tweeted Khan.

“How is making everybody black ‘diversity’?” asked black rapper Zuby. “Can’t we all just go back to being normal and get along? People are tired.”

When your rappers make more sense than your politicians.
I hope I live long enough to have someone explain to me how our diversity is our greatest strength.
Either people are fundamentally all the same and there are no such things as sex, gender, sexual orientation, racial or ethnic differences, in which case diversity should make no difference whatsoever, or people are fundamentally different with different cultures and attributes and abilities and characteristics, in which case diversity might be a strength or it might be a weakness, depending on what those differences are.

She has the talking points down. And she bursts into tears every time you try to have a conversation about it, so it's difficult.

That struck me yesterday as well. I agree with Robin--she does know better.

I have previously shared how my Catholic chief of OB Gyn presented it to us in med school. (He did one lecture--this one.) He told us that there is no denying the science--it is a unique human. He also reminded us that every major religion allowed for justifiable homicide. As a resident in urban Philadelphia, he had cared for mothers of many who died, leaving motherless young children behind, as a result of back alley abortions.
That this (at the time first trimester elective abortion) was between a woman and her God.
Why he supported safe, legal, and rare. Actively worked to make birth control available to all.

Now, at that time (1976), no one was compelled to be part of that procedure, and it was inconceivable that we ever would--or that second or God forbid, third trimester elective abortions would be legalized.

I have no daughters, but I witness the devastation to many of my friends' daughters lives from the message many have received--like porch's daughter--from "friends" and others--that sexuality is an itch to be scratched, that girls are the same as boys, that hopping into a near stranger's bed and dressing like a skank is empowering---and here they are, in their 30s, alone, childless.
Much heartbreak involved along the way.
Not saying married with children is the only way to live--but it sure is something almost all of them wish were their fate.

And abortion plays in to all this. Like Jmh, I am happy I am not limited by the options of the 50s woman. But this total disregard for the sanctity of life, the possible result of any physical union, has not served us well.
What my sons heard from their mother--long before they likely even thought about "going there"-- was that they should never do something that could result in a baby unless they intended to be tied to that girl for life. (I do think what they saw and heard IRT my sister's divorce from her psycho husband was a great life lesson for my kids.)

I think it is important for us to use the right term when we talk about this--it is taking a life. Abortion is the word we use instead of saying baby killing. That is what sonograms have shown everyone it --a baby.

What I would counsel my daughter, despite the tears, is that she will live with that "choice" every single day for the rest of her life.

And I can only imagine what it's like if that ends up being her only pregnancy, and she finds herself alone at 45, wishing life had unfolded in a different way.

JMH, of course I had a point. Her kid is resorting to tactics that work. It's been done since the humans existed. Kid doesn't get her way, she ends the debate by using a tactic that works. She could have used words to express her feelings, but chose the baby way out. I'm sure you knew that.

--He also reminded us that every major religion allowed for justifiable homicide. As a resident in urban Philadelphia, he had cared for mothers of many who died, leaving motherless young children behind, as a result of back alley abortions.--

I hate to make light of this but this argument has always struck me as a variation on the guy who murders his parents and throws himself on the mercy of the court because he's an orphan, the only difference is the woman wants mercy for killing her own kid so her other kids don't become orphans.
Society; Killing another innocent human is illegal.
Mother; But I want to kill him anyway and because it's illegal I'll go to a hack who might kill me.
Society; Oh ok. Then rather than urging you not to kill your innocent child we'll call it "justifiable" so that millions of innocents will die rather than a few guilty.
It's much easier for society to flush millions of innocent babies than care for relatively few mothers who suffer from the attempt to flush their innocent babies.

--That this (at the time first trimester elective abortion) was between a woman and her God.--

This statement;
"He told us that there is no denying the science--it is a unique human"
demonstrates it is emphatically NOT just between a woman and her God.

hrtshpdbox

Doesn't say it's likely; only that it's possible.

Iggy, it's pretty darned unlikely, isn't it? An infinitesimally small chance of happening? In fact, it's almost completely certain that this flu will run its course in much the same way as others we've seen over the past decades, isn't it? That's what I'd like to think, and that's what the markets do think (they seem to ignore the doomsayers and focus on headlines showing slower increases in cases, I guess).

I took GUS's point to be that she can't express herself in words not because she's a baby, but because there's no coherent basis for her feelings. Thanks to the Electoral College, a handful of states may determine the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.

Seems like a feature not a bug. Though of course the complaint is really that it's the wrong "handful of states." Better it should be California, New York, and the Beltway choosing for us.

No offense intended. I looked up Carlisle based on another person's comment on Facebook. What I found was a YouTube video of someone driving through or by Carlisle. It seemed like a nice, very quiet, average American town — not the hub of Government or the military that I imagine Vindman sees himself in.

Those of you who know something about the War College could tell us just what type of assignment Vindman might be given here. (Actually, I often found that the best assignments were off the beaten path, so to speak.) Whatever Vindman is given to do, I hope that it doesn't involve National Security and that he's carefully watched.

Yes to all of this!!!

It is not for the faint of heart to be raising teenaged girls right now, so spare us your judgments. You can alienate your kid by taking the extreme position and accepting no less than absolute compliance with your opinions. Good luck with that.

There is the longterm approach where you have given them the language and tools to understand your position and you gently push back when they are voicing opposition, or the short-term "my way or the highway" approach. Most of us are trying really hard to raise young women who will be thoughtful, balanced, and question the absolutists on the other side. We can only do that by being firm with our own values, living up to our own standards, and forgiving and gently guiding when things go off the rail.

Jane

Robin,I FINALLY READ THE CHAPTER ON Klobuchar this AM. ‘‘Twas interesting. Although she votes with Bernie 80% of the time, she has always, since the beginning been tied to big, often corrupt donors who she has always protected, and not prosecuted. She also rewards them mightily.

IOW’s she’s dirty pretending she is for the people. Sound familiar?

D

Robin:
Very well stated. Unconditional love is expressed on a regular basis and forgiveness if some decisions prove to be unwise or if they sabotage themselves.
Always lead by example and be firm in your convictions of what the right action to take is in any situation.

Good to know about Klobuchar.
I still think she and Buttigieg are laying the groundwork for 2024 when they dont have to face Trump.

Among many other things, tears can also be a sign of intense internal conflict which may, in fact, be difficult to put into words. More often than not, that was the case with my own daughter. Have you never had an emotion that was hard to express, whatever the reason? The bottom line, however, is that neither you nor I know Miss Marple's daughter and whether tears happen to be a "tactic" in this case or not. I'm suggesting that's not necessarily the case at all.

Sorry, that would be Porchlight's daughter, obviously, whom we also do not know.
