Is it just me or has this been an unusually under-hyped Super Bowl? The death of Laker great Kobe Bryant took a lot of air out of the sports world balloon.
Well. I may have rooted for San Francisco back when they were led by Notre Dame's own Joe Montana and battling the other Evil Empire, the Dallas Cowboys. But as a general rule I can't root for California teams so its Kansas City for me.

They expect a guy acquitted to apologize but not the troop of red butted mandrills that turned the country upside down with a show trial of lies designed to cover their actual crimes.
Maybe the shooting starts when people simply run out of words to describe how vile the would-be tyrants are.

Another data point why "democracy" isn't a very good idea but a self governing republic is if liberty and freedom are your actual goals;
The best and worst countries for democracy.
Canada, where you can't own a handgun and that thinks you need a government approved license to write about it, ranks higher than the US, as does the one party state of South Africa and the sorrowful Norway currently slowly committing suicide via lethal islamic injection, and many other quasi-socialist states with left wing Overton slots that can no longer even be honestly be described as windows.

Amom: "is the self-quarantine your wife is doing meaning that none of you are leaving the house"
No. She's working from home in our guest room. She's in the house and allowed to putter about in the back yard. The kid still attends school and activities. I'm retired so not required to be out and about, but continuing grocery shopping. I made a relatively large buy so we can hole up if needed. The kid and I are not wearing masks.
No socializing (movies, dinners out, meals with friends, ...). No ... errr ... conjugal activities LOL. Gifts brought back for friends and coworkers will gather dust till the 2 weeks pass.
The virus was not widespread where she was. No reports of infection among her family and friends. She did not go out at all in China, only spent time with close family. All home cooked meals. I figure her biggest danger was the flight back which had a layover in Taipei.
I'm currently not panicked enough to demand the daughter wear a mask to school. So far, I'm not wearing a mask but I do feel pangs of guilt over that ...
What do you think? Restaurants sometimes have a "soft opening" to test out a reduced menu and allow staff to practice. I'm thinking of this as a "soft quarantine". We've much reduced our interactions but definitely not a strict medical quarantine at this time.

I sometimes appreciate Zerohedge's variety of viewpoints but the article below is why I had to take a break from linking them at all a while back;
Rewriting History Of World War II Is Ominous Warning
It uses a couple of people mistakenly saying that the US or UK liberated Auschwitz to sing a love song to the mighty but tender Red Army of Soviets that played only benevolent and heroic role in Great Patriotic War.
The title is oh so correct, but not in the way the authors meant.
What next, forget the anti-semitism, let's just go with actual Nazi propaganda at ZH?

Well it shapes up to be a good game. But out here in Los Angeles the media, and really much of the citizenry are in a period of mourning and a bit of a shock with the demise of Kobe Bryant. It'll take another week or two for all that to settle down.
And while nobody much is or was watching the Sham Wow Show in the Senate, you would get bits and snippets on the radio or the TV--a buzzing noise like blow flies hovering over rotting carrion.
But while the Dems are hyperventilating over the entirely predictable outcome in the Senate (weak case, lousy presentation and the "jury" voters are stacked against conviction) you ain't seen nothing yet. Trump has bought two commercials in the Super Bowl. I predict Defcon Two Level Howls Of Democrat Outrage this evening after seeing the commercials.

I though Obama's Uncle liberated Auschwitz or some ting.
Note the WA.COMPOST makes excuses for Obama's ignorance of HISTORY and his ignorance of his WHITE GREAT UNCLE.
That may be a fact, the RNC noted gleefully -- but only if Obama's uncle served in the Red Army of Joseph Stalin, which liberated Auschwitz Jan. 27, 1945. The Obama campaign says the mistake was not as horrific as it might seem. His uncle was there at the liberation of Buchenwald. Obama just confused the names of the concentration camps.

It never occurs to "the Establishment", parts of which almost always produce schlock like that I linked, might just be a tad bit anti-democratic itself.
Which of course also flies in the face of their awarding demerits for political gridlock and partisan divides.
Apparently a true democracy and true freedom is one in which all the little Stepford boys and girls get up and brush their ideological teeth and comb their political hair in just the same way and step out the front door at the same time and go vote in exactly the same people over and over so they can all progress together in a very democratic way because it's a beautiful world we live in, a sweet romantic place...

Jim, Sunny:
I started watching Korean historical sagas on the tube when I was a little depressed about a project which fell through (after I used up all the "gritty" Scandinavian crime dramas), and one thing just led to another. I began trying to nail down locations in time and space (maps!), and then I wondered why on earth nobody ever defended themselves against false accusations that were wrecking their lives.... Eventually you have to start looking at China too, and Japan.
I'm not sure why I've found it so engaging. Aside from those with business interests in Asia, it seems to me that most laymen get hooked by Oriental mysticism or philosophy first, but my trajectory was completely different. I'd say I'm more familiar than knowledgeable, though.

Anybody expressing horror at how quickly Bloomberg sunk to Trump's level? Of course not. I don't think he's just being over-sensitive here, though. I think he's working hard to make Bloomberg vs Trump the de facto contest, as though winning the nomination is a foregone conclusion. I expect he'll spend most of his time in the debate attacking the President and not the other candidates, while I wouldn't be surprised to see them attacking him.
When you look at the competition, I do think Bloomberg is the best potential candidate they've go. He's not insane and he's actually run things, like a huge business and a huge city. I think a lot of Democrats would heave a big sigh of relief.

I read bruce cumings two volumes on korea, its as helpful as reading john reed or harrison salisbury, except that it does illustrate the north korea sense of alienation and paranoia

I hate it when I click through to the Bee site.
I just sit and chortle at headlines.

Thanks To New Laws, VeggieTales Finally Introduces New Cannabis Character
“Mike and I have had this character in our back pockets since college,” Phil Vischer said at a press conference. “America wasn’t ready for Cannabis Carl then, but they’ve finally come around.” Mike Nawrocki, the voice of Larry the Cucumber also commented with a long, drawn-out, high-pitched giggle. His eyes appeared red.
Vischer and Narwocki say they have more characters in store for when all drugs become legalized, including a wizard mushroom named Morlock. “Bible college was a pretty crazy time for us, but eventually God uses all things to his glory,” Vischer said.
The new episode featuring Cannabis Carl will be released on the newest Netfix VeggieTales series titled “VeggieTales In the Haze.” Cannabis Carl will debut with his song “God Made All The Plants, Dude”

Forget Jen Rubin and Jim Acosta, here is the most deranged person in the media - Lawrence O'Donnell. How could I foget this moon-bat?

Um auschwitz was in polamd so it would be more logical for the red army to get there first than so dachau or nordhausen

Obama had no clue. He heard from his whore Mommmy that Uncle Soandso was at Auschwitz, then he went out and smoked a bowl.

Thread about how they trapped General Flynn and why he was so important. Melinda will want to read down to where a new guy comes on and posts an Interfax letterhead with a link.
"KYIV. Nov 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian members of parliament have demanded the presidents of Ukraine and the United States, Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump, investigate suspicions of the legalization of $7.4 billion by the "family" of ex-President Viktor Yanukovych through the American investment fund Franklin Templeton Investments, which they said has ties to the U.S. Democratic Party."
(I got curious and clicked on over to the above.)

St. John's, Newfoundland, is experiencing a bout with global warming. I lived there for 2 years as a kid and remember the snow blizzards but nothing like this one:)
