Byrne was a Democrat until the late 90s when he came to realize he wasn't going to win any state elections. This means while the Reagan revolution was going on he was still a Democrat. He ran against a Tea Party candidate to win his Congressional seat. In primaries for governor and Senate Byrne always loses to conservative candidates. I would vote for Tuberville, the former Auburn football coach, before I would vote for Byrne. If he wins the GOP primary I will hold my nose and vote for him over Jones.

DOJ Backing Down From Abusive Sentencing Recommendation For Roger Stone

The Justice Department is preparing to change its sentencing recommendation for Roger Stone after top brass were “shocked” at the stiff prison term initially being sought, according to a senior DOJ official.

Federal prosecutors had recommended that Judge Amy Berman Jackson sentence Stone to between 87 and 108 months in prison for his conviction on seven counts of obstruction, witness tampering, and making false statements to Congress on charges that stemmed from former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.

“The Department was shocked to see the sentencing recommendation in the filing in the Stone case last night,” the official told Fox News. “The sentencing recommendation was not what had been briefed to the Department.”

The department is now expected to scale that back.

“The Department finds seven to nine years extreme, excessive and grossly disproportionate to Mr. Stone’s offenses,” the source told Fox News, adding that the DOJ will clarify its position on sentencing later Tuesday.

Was anyone in the Navy demoted or discharged over this billion-dollar, multi-year debacle? Were any civilian employees demoted or fired? Were any of the contractors involved fined or blacklisted from future contracts?

James D.

In a comment following an article on Jefferson Sessions that I read a couple of years ago it was mentioned that a company that made the hated Littoral Combat Ships was a "constituent" of Sessions in Alabama. The comment went on to explain that the Navy did not like these ships. A sale of a number of the Littorals to Israel had to be approved by then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The company needed this sale to keep afloat (NPI). Sessions supported this sale on behalf of his constituents and apparently worked with the State Department to obtain the necessary approvals. FWIW.

Robin,

There were lots, many tied to Mondale, but the biggest in the beginning was Petters who she kept out of jail for a very long time, in exchange for years of money. Apparently everyone knew he was a "fraud machine" but because of her he didn't get prosecuted for years and years.

She also issued over $500 million in earmarks to donors in her first 3 years in office in return for a very big pocketbook for her.

She became very good at crafting bills that benefited her donors, all while pretending to be a bit of a socialist. Come to think of it, isn't that what most socialists do?

It looks like the over-the-top sentencing recommendation for Roger Stone was a planned set-up by Aaron Zelinsky et al, to force AG Bill Barr to step-in and reduce the sentence; thereby giving fuel to those in media/lawfare who are accusing AG Barr of political influence. This reeks of Lawfare scheming.
