OK, wow. Last night I had to go off for a seemingly simple household chore: pick up some Clorox bleach, Fantatik spray cleaner, and Windex. I get down to our local grocery store and... hmmm. Its obvious where the toilet paper used to be next to the paper towels, but those shelves are now empty. Windex is easy to find, as is Easy Off for the oven, but then a gap of empty shelves.... squint at the labels... yup, my Fantastik ought to be right here, and at a great price! Except its not. Clorox is in the laundry section but only if you want a one piont bottle. Who buys one pint? Is that a travel size? And how could TSA let that on a plane? OK, don't get distracted. Focus. Buy two pints.
And dammit, this is America, not East Berlin. I head off to a second grocery store. On the radio the talk is about Tom Hanks testing positive for COVID19. What?!? How old is he, anyway? Not good.
I get to the second store and, hey, what - still no Fantastik? No Clorox in a real jug?
Back in the car to try a third store. Now the radio chatter is about the NBA season being "suspended". Like, there will be an 'all-clear' and they will resume in a few weeks? Come on.
Third store. Shut out again. Heroically resisting the ice cream section. Head for home. Now its the NCAA basketball tournament. March Madness will be March Sadness as they play in arenas with no fans. How does that make sense, anyway? NBA players are getting infected. Are college players immune?
I make it home, see the reaction to Trump's speech (No foreigners traveling from Europe?!?), see the stock market futures correctly predict that Thursday will make history and find out our library and schools are closed. So here we are - Wednesday seemed like a very different world from Tuesday and Thursday is not changing my mind. Is it serious yet?
First?
Posted by: Buckeye | March 12, 2020 at 05:54 PM
TM, no March Madness either. No lines for TP or at liquor stores where I am. Plenty of gallon jugs of Clorox or store label bleach.
Posted by: henry | March 12, 2020 at 06:06 PM
I picked up my 2 month supply of TP a couple of weeks ago to avoid the rush. Clorox, high octane alcohol, Windex, Lysol, check.
Since I live alone not much to worry about except there's no friction sports on TV. That will be the real decider. 3-4 days without hockey, basketball, baseball, etc. and you will see much of middle America freak out.

Devin Nunes and Jim Jordan supported the FISA reauthorization bill
“Many Republican Senators want me to Veto the FISA Bill until we find out what led to, and happened with, the illegal attempted ‘coup’ of the duly elected President of the United States, and others!” Trump tweeted Thursday.
Don't we already know the answers to all that? The attempted coup IS being investigated. What we are waiting on are the indictments and trials of those involved.
I suppose it's possible that everyone on Team Trump has been lying to us and that Durham is not investigating the Obama criminal cabal's illegal spying on Trump. If Trump knows Durham and Barr are lying to us and protecting the Deep State/Swamp then go ahead and veto the legislation.

What are we seeing? Step back, step way back.
The wuflu, the corona virus, COVID-19, whatever, what if it is a deliberate act of war designed to take down President Trump, the "America First" agenda, and ultimately, once and for all, America?
All the globalists are on the same side. That side is opposite of President Trump's agenda. He is a threat to the international globalist order. He has been turning the world ever so slowly. Think Brexit, think other efforts of peoples striving for autonomy. He is inspiring peoples everywhere.
Mueller failed to stop President Trump.
Impeachment failed, and failed to stop President Trump.
Globalists, "he must be stopped." From Wall Street to Brussels, to Red Square, to Davos, to Tehran, to Bejing.
Who is standing in the way of a new world? One man. Kill the economy, force voters to break with the man.
Probably wargamed in earnest last spring (2019) after the earlier trade negotiations, the deal which was overruled.
The ChiComs have no concern for the short-term loss in population inside or outside their border.
Multi-layered. No plan precisely survives implementation, but what we are seeing is just not seat-of-the-pants response.
The entire project is following an arc.
What's next?

A Canadian company says that it has produced a COVID-19 vaccine just 20 days after receiving the coronavirus’s genetic sequence, using a unique technology that they soon hope to submit for FDA approval.
Medicago CEO Bruce Clark said his company could produce as many as 10 million doses a month. If regulatory hurdles can be cleared, he said in a Thursday interview, the vaccine could start to become available in November.

Dr. Stephen Hotze of the Hotze Medical Center in Texas on Newsmax is spitting nails over the media coverage of COVID. Said it is totally irresponsible. He said over 45 million Americans have had the flu as of February, of that 560,000 hospitalized and 45,000 have died. He said no one was screaming don't go to school, cancel events, etc. He said if we did what is happening with Corona for the flu we'd shut the damn country down every winter. Said there is no way the government can stop the Corona Virus anymore than they can stop the seasonal flu and if they can't stop the flu they can't stop this. via Carolyn Harlan on FB

He then mentioned that if the Dem’s already had their nominee that individual would be getting daily briefings from the administration.
It didn’t dawn on him but it sure did dawn on me. The rush to get Biden in as the nominee is an effort to secure the classified information that is made available during Presidential elections to ensure a smooth transition.
They really don’t care about winning in 2020, they need access to behind the scenes at the executive. The sooner they have a declared candidate, the sooner they can start the new leaks and precise hamstringing.

I did some filet mignon last week, and it came out so good I can't imagine ever doing it another way. 129 for 1 1/2 hrs, then a quick sear, they're done medium rare all the way through yet no drying out of the outside in order to get the inside cooked. We used to put steak in the oven at 170 for an hour and then sear, same idea, but that still dries out the outside. I'm going to try a ribeye tomorrow.
And with that, the dinner bell has rung. (Sous vide lamb chops.)

Ohio health official estimates 100,000 people in state have coronavirus
********
Oopsie, my bad. I ran the global warming model. 100,000 is the average global temperature in 8 no wait make that 7 years.
Double checking my numbers. That should be seventeen. Seventeen cases of COVID-19 in Ohio.

over 45 million Americans have had the flu as of February
RxR: Can that be right? More than 1 in 10?
Flu numbers are estimates, of course. Not all cases get reported, not all deaths are correctly ID'ed, etc.
But over the years an agreed framework has been developed to generate the estimates. Here are the CDC numbers for this 2019-20 flu season.

Now I find out it is Ladies Night at the bar and I am now surrounded by beautiful Hispanic ladies. Yikes!
And sitting in the tables behind me are about 12 more. How did I venture into this? I just wanted a glass of wine😁

I was shocked to learn that in 2009 50-60 million Americans had H1N1 and 10-12,000 died from it and I can barely even remember it occurring.
