I hope you're sitting down - Bernie has released cost and revenue estimates for his 70's era bong-induced fantasies proposed plans and they don't add up. From many candidates I'll pick this passage as my current favorite:
Any credible economist will assert that raising taxes by $30 or $40 trillion would substantially harm entrepreneurship and economic growth, which would dampen the new revenues. Instead, Sanders assumes that these taxes would bring a burst of new economic growth that saves $3.6 trillion over the decade from new tax revenues and less need for safety net spending. No economic analysis is provided defending these extraordinarily unconventional assumptions.
Apparently there are a host of would-be entrepreneurs chained up by our current system and waiting only for exorbitant taxes and a several new phone books of regulations before they start hiring.
Maybe!

Jane, let me put it another way: I think candidates like Hillary (and if God forbid she were ever to run, Michelle), who gain prominence via their husbands' accomplishments, do more harm than good to the prospects of genuinely talented women candidates. So preventing that kind of back-door entree is a good thing for people like Nikki Haley who have accomplished much on their own.
I don't care whether the next president is a man or a woman, but for those who for some reason think it's a good thing if it's a woman, I would think they would be embarrassed if that woman strode in on the coattails of a man.

Have any incumbent presidents been voted out in the midst of chaos or crises? I'm not a history expert, and maybe there were a few, but I think the fantasy that we would vote in any of these miserable Dems in the middle of an economic or health crisis seems like a dumb strategy they're fanning the flames to pursue, not to mentioned destined to fail.
Trump said the other day that he thinks they'll calm down and want to "get along" after they get badly beaten in November.

Extraneus:
"Why would Democrats roll over for Michelle Obama?"
Because they are really worried about hanging onto the black vote? It could certainly be key in North Carolina, which seems to have become one of the new swing states. We have a very large black population (something like 35%-40%), and although the Obamas kept it well under the radar, they campaigned here a lot, perhaps even more in 2012 than 2008. It seemed like one or the other of them was here practically every couple of weeks, so Michelle could hit the ground running. Joe Biden made a good showing in NC, and whether or not black men are chauvinistic, black women's enthusiasm could be a big piece of getting people to the polls. I don't know about the dynamics in other states, but she'd be a bigger pull here than most anyone else.
I can see her doing it. Being close to the center of the action, without a lot of responsibilities, what's not to like?. The VP's residence has plenty of room for ValJar, but she seems to be the only one living in the Obama's DC mansion, and her operation is probably comfortably ensconced there.

"Is this country really "not ready" for a female president?"
I think we're ready enough. The problem is how crappy the Democrat models are. Most sensible people don't want to vote for anybody who claims to be entitled to the job, whether it's a matter of race, sex, seniority etc. I can't imagine someone like Nikki Haley, or pretty much any Republican woman, making that the cornerstone of her campaign. It's just not a Republican thing at all, so the only people you hear talking about it are the Dems and the media, which helps precisely nobody.

You'd think so, but Hillary certainly has a whole following of die-hard fans. I've always thought she's one of the worst role models for young women. I don't think we should rule out spouses, I just don't think we should vote for them very often.
I'm not crazy about relatives either. I enjoy Don Jr's tweets and I think he's a bright guy, but if his father weren't President, I'm not sure anyone would look at him twice as a potential candidate. Frankly, when it comes to 2024, I think we might want to be looking for someone very different from DJT, someone who can consolidate Trump's advances, but who can address a different set of issues (like spending!) with a different skill set.
